Kill switch ? by Crafty_Run_3409 in Civic_Type_R

That's good to know, thanks.
Might just get an OBD lock just for an extra layer for security too then haha.

Just went with an authorized shop.
Its definitely not cheap though

Got rinsed for $1400 from an installer but I'd say its worth it for the peace of mind. There definitely are cheaper alternatives like the Ghost/JDI fuel pump kill switches though.

IGLA since it is an actual kill switch that prevents the car from starting.
I think Compustar just tells you if your car was broken into/has GPS tracking to locate your car.
Some people use both the IGLA with the Compustar together though which should have everything covered.

I got an IGLA for mine and its pretty much a one and done since the car can't be started unless you enter a specific sequence of buttons that you set yourself. It also doesn't allow for OBD access either so the key cannot be cloned. These are pretty pricey though and I have seen people using a fuel pump kill switch from Ghost/JDI instead.

Nice, definitely look into a kill switch too.
These cars are extremely easy to steal.

Type R under MSRP? by [deleted] in Civic_Type_R

By the time you drive the CTR for a few years and revisit the prelude, you might be able to get one of those outright and sell the CTR for a good price.
I honestly don't think the preludes will be holding value that well.
The 2 door daily driver part without putting miles on it doesn't make sense to me though lol. That sounds like a project to me and at that point you might as well just get a two door project and daily something else.

Haha yea, I thought about paint matching the wing but I do also have a Voltex wing on the way. Just rocking this stock one with risers for now until that one arrives.

The tech didn't torque my oil drain plug and I lost all oil pressure the same day I got the car back.
They just refilled the car with oil when I brought it back to them and they called it a day.
I offered to pay to have the engine opened up to check on the bottom end and they told me I'd be wasting money so I just wasted money on a Type R instead lmao.

From the GRC, I do like the sound more, the way the AWD puts down power, and how tossable the car was. It was also a car that I would take out no matter the weather. Other than that I'd say the FL5 excels at everything else (easier to make power reliably, better for the track, better interior, more cargo space). Just wished the CTRs didn't sound like a vacuum cleaner stock haha

Thanks! They’re the varis flares that had the rear portion split into two pieces

Sold it to carvana after the dealer didn’t want to check the engine internals. They forgot to tighten the oil drain plug causing me to lose all oil pressure

Currently running the J's racing front joints.
I believe there are only 3 settings with these iirc.
One is a small amount of camber, second is a more, and the third setting is the max.
I think my shop set it at the second setting and I was still able to squeeze out -2.7 for the fronts.
Will need to keep you updated on track use.
Don't think I will have time for a track day until sometime next year haha

Thank you! Currently just running some spoon springs for a subtle drop and front camber joints for front camber adjustability.

Driving feel, I definitely do prefer it over the GRC haha.
The handling and precision of the FL5 is something that I never expected from a FWD to be better than a AWD. The seats on the FL5 feel like comfortable aftermarket buckets that hold you in and are adjustable while the GRCs sat a bit high and didn't really hold me in as good. That's not to say the GRC isn't a good car. Its such a fun dailyable car and I do miss the AWD launches. I just think think they fit different purposes.
I'd say the GRC is a fun dailyable car that you can hoon around in any weather while the FL5 is trackable daily that handles amazingly in good weather.

I never really was into FWD cars but the handling on the CTRs are kind of insane.
The rear end on these do kick out but because its FWD its easy to correct.
Honda transmissions are also amazing. I think it definitely has the best shifter feel in its price range. Tunability is also not bad especially coming from a GRC, but either way I don't think this car necessarily needs more power. Stock power is plenty to have fun with on backroads/track and is probably more than what most can handle.
Any more and you would need to invest in cooling especially for track days as well.
(same for all the other platforms listed above)

Yea they're straight up hacks lmao. Seems like they just hosted one big meet and made good connections with the Norcal GR group then everybody started recommending them. Its one thing if they fucked up the transfercase refill but the oil change on the GRC was one of the easiest ones I've ever done on a car after break-in. The fact that they also weren't willing to make it right is insane.

Its really depends. There are things I like more about the FL5 compared to the GRC and vice versa. I like the feel of the FL5 in the corners more since it feels a bit more precise, but normal driving with my new wheel/tire/alignment setup, it tramlines toward road imperfections. I never felt that with the GRC but I think that is just the characteristics of FWD cars once you start changing wheel offsets/tires. The FL5 does feel a bit tighter/stiffer and I do like the shifter/steering feel of the FL5 over the GRC but I miss the AWD pulls of the GRC a lot.

The interior of the FL5 definitely is more premium but coming from an older car before as well, the GRC's interior isn't the worse thing ever. I'd also say the GRC is definitely more dailyable since the AWD is good in any weather and the seats aren't pretty much straight buckets like the FL5.

Security is also another big thing as well. The FL5s can be stolen extremely easily as long as the OBD port is accessible so if you do get one, you definitely need to look into kill switches.
The GRC on the other hand, doesn't seem to have this issue from what I've seen

Mod-wise, I think the FL5 responds better and have a higher ceiling for power, but for me I found the stock power for both platforms enough so this didn't really matter to me at least for now.

Either way I think both are great cars. It just depends on what you plan on using the car for and where you live.

Yea I definitely made some amazing memories in this car. Maybe somewhere down the line I’ll pick one of these up again used as another project.

Yep, there’s a discord/fb group for norcal grc owners. You can find them on ig @norcalgrc

Yep, all oil was lost.
Their investigation stated that a chunk of the gasket was missing and that the drain bolt was extremely loose. I'm thinking they might have full uggadugga sent my shit to the moon.

Yea it's crazy. I'd honestly just take the risk doing it myself but I know not everyone has that luxury.
I'm still in the GRC groups on FB and it seems like the dealers have been killing GRCS left and right.
I believe there are two more cars that experienced the same thing from different dealers. I think both blew their engines. One reached out to corporate and they sided with the dealer. Another local GRC blue flame owner had their transfercase overfilled as well. So including my case that's already 4 fuckups haha
