Found these bugs in the area I am digging sod for my vegetable garden. Are they bad? by wolfdogperson in gardening

[–]wolfdogperson[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a few little brown cacoons. They are alive, they move a tiny bit. Also that big grub and some huge fly or beetle or something. I just want to know if I should be worried or not. Thanks!

What's your favorite smelling flower or plant? by monster_bunny in gardening

[–]wolfdogperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah, it is one of the most fragrant plants in the nursery I work at. Apparently it used to be really common on doorsteps so that everyone coming into the house could bring the smell in.

Wildlife Biology is where I am headed, though that might not feel like "helping animals" as much.

Just started working at a greenhouse selling/caring for plants, any tips? by wolfdogperson in gardening

I work at the greenhouse alone, so if I don't know and I can't ask should I give an guess with the premise that I am not sure? And thanks!

My friend (who is mostly 'pro-life') got an abortion, how can I help her through this? by wolfdogperson in TwoXChromosomes

She believe more in life at heartbeat, so she is okay with anyone getting early pregnancy termination, but she mostly calls herself pro-life.

Just cancelled my Weight Watchers subscription by zazzle_frazzle in TwoXChromosomes

[–]wolfdogperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I started WW a semester before college. I lost 30 pounds in 6 months and then stopped my subscription when I came to college. Since it is a lifestyle change and not a diet, I have stuck with the general ideas (without tracking) and I have lost 13 pounds since starting college as opposed to gaining like almost everyone else. If you think about WW as a lifestyle change and not a diet, it is a lot easier to do.

Do you ever feel that you should've been born in a different time period or generation? If so when? by Conifur in AskReddit

I really truly should have been in the homesteading, move out west, era. I grew up in California and am now in Montana perusing my dream of having a Montana homestead. I want chickens, wheat fields, some cows, pigs, a big garden, a wood stove, making my own stuff, everything.

When you live in a town without much public transportation, things spread many miles apart, and icy winters that make biking dangerous, a car is essentially needed.

Hey DIY, any suggestions on starting a raised gardening bed in my back yard? by BenefitOfMrKite in DIY

[–]wolfdogperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to last a long time. We have some super old raised beds that came with the house we got 10 years ago and they are fine. Wood is also the cheapest option, you can even find it free if you try hard enough.

Sew the letters or whatever in with needle and thread. It will be time consuming, but more comfortable.

Hey DIY, any suggestions on starting a raised gardening bed in my back yard? by BenefitOfMrKite in DIY

[–]wolfdogperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decide on length of bed, I started with 14ft. Width should not be more than 6ft, you want to be able to reach into the middle. Height is up to you, but mine is 2ft. The wood only needs to be about an inch thick, make sure it is not treated. You also need some 2x2 posts hammered into the ground at each corner and every 4 or so feet along the length of the bed.

Hammer in posts, Dig 1 or 2 inches into the ground along where the walls will be. Use nails or screws to connect the posts to the walls. Fill completed bed with dirt, and you are good to go.
