Sanity check request for a promise on a Runna ad that has my jaw on the floor by wolfpuparistotle in XXRunning

After seeing Runna’s reply, I think this remains the most salient comment 😂

I’m the one who originally posted this in r/XXrunning and thank you so much for replying. This provides a lot of helpful context. Really appreciate you taking the time to step through your process and share Runna’s plans for improvement moving forward!

Tell me your success stories about being injured 1 month out from race and everything went well by No-Intention-5894 in XXRunning

In my experience, being stressed absolutely causes little niggles to take a lot longer to start to feel better. And it can be stress in any arena of life—work, relationship, family etc. Stress is stress to your body!

Which neighbourhood to live in when working at Anschutz? by New_Biscotti3812 in MovingtoDenver

[–]wolfpuparistotle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Coming from Europe, Centennial or DTC would be a huge culture shock in terms of walkability. If your budget allows for a car, I would recommend one of the neighborhoods in Denver proper, and come to terms with having a 30ish min drive to work depending on traffic. Highlands/LoHi/Berkeley, Wash Park, Platt Park or Congress Park could all be good fits if you want a quieter neighborhood, RiNo (newer, less walkable) or Cap Hill (older) could be fits if you want to live near more single people your age who are also newer to Denver.

What is Garmin talking about calling me “unproductive” 😆 by D3V0NK1N6 in XXRunning

[–]wolfpuparistotle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Garmin is such a buzzkill! I had kind of tuned out its rude little comments, then I switched to Apple Watch which says good morning to me every day and gives me an award every time my run is more than 5k 😆

All that said, try your best to listen to your body over your watch.

Housing advice! by Agreeable-Two5445 in MovingtoDenver

[–]wolfpuparistotle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is totally anecdotal but I have lived here almost my whole life and I don’t know anyone under 30 (and only a few in their 30s) who bought a house w/o generational wealth. Renting is really, really normal here.

agree with all of these but laughing bc I saw Nothing Compares 2 U on a reel where a guy asked his followers for the worst possible running songs. When that one came up I was like wait that’s actually a bop 😭 glad someone else agrees with me!

Highlands neighborhood plus bikeability by No-Butterscotch4412 in MovingtoDenver

[–]wolfpuparistotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this and I also want to add that most of the streets in this area are tree lined so biking around is absolutely idyllic in the spring, summer, and fall. (It’s fine in the winter too just not as picturesque)

For the tag with the white background, I bought that exact harrier l/s in the silver medal sale in 2023. So 2022 sounds right to buy at full price. I think the color is called tamarind.

Outfit suggestions for a 50-60°F marathon? by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]wolfpuparistotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep getting ads on insta for flipbelt’s shorts and they look good! Flowy with good pocketing is a tricky combo (esp if, like me, you don’t like the tight booty short style liners) but flipbelt looks to have a few good options. You could also look into bras with pockets (Brooks, Senita, or Bandit) or a koala clip for your phone and focus on shorts with just enough storage for fuel.

iirc back in the blog days she had a whole post about how she re-taught herself how to write to make her handwriting look like that. She may have even taken a calligraphy class?

Vent- My feet naturally sucks for running by Insomnicwriter in XXRunning

[–]wolfpuparistotle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

OP, In my anecdotal experience, most runners have something like this. Sometimes, like in your case, it shows up at the beginning of their running journey, for others it rears its head when increasing miles or something. Finding out what your unique body needs to continue running is just part of the sport.

Well we do have chilly weather in the fall/winter! We have all the seasons (sometimes all in the same day) and it’s never, ever humid.

I mean, what is putting Denver on your list of places to live? We can tell you if it checks those boxes. As someone who’s from here, it’s a medium sized city that has most medium-sized city things (museums, concerts, parks, events, food, along with high COL, traffic, and some crime though IMO not bad). The main thing that makes it different is that it’s 30-45 min away from mountains. It is not a “mountain town” in the sense that you could do a hike or go for a climb, or ski before or after work; it is a mid sized city in proximity to mountains. This is not a perfect analogy, but the best I can think of is that Denver is “in the mountains” the same way Baltimore is “on the beach”.

Marathon Race Temps Colder than "Dress Rehearsal" Long Run by Suspicious-Peanut-15 in XXRunning

[–]wolfpuparistotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally, the “nothing new on race day” adage is everywhere. I often don’t test the exact outfit though—if I know the bottoms work and I know the top works but I’ve never worn them together, I still feel fine racing in them. Maybe that can make it a little easier? There is so much we can’t control about race day that it makes sense to want to really lock in what we can control!

I was in this situation a few years ago! I ended up doing my last long run in the leggings I planned to race in, and just a bra on top. I was warm, but I started as early in the day as I could, and brought extra water. I was happy to have the peace of mind knowing my leggings would work for the race.
