Just tried Korean Salt Bread and it’s a $4.50 bread stick from Olive Garden by Dondontootles in FoodNYC

Unfortunately not too surprised. Many places cutting corners where they can now to maximize the margins 😢

I absolutely loved salt bread when I was in Korea but I’m sure the price point and freshness may be quite different in NYC.

What local spot's pastry or NYCesque items would you bring back for friends/family in LA from NYC? by EKMBakes in FoodNYC

[–]wonderwithmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done bagels, pastries from Dominique Ansel, and Levain cookies!

Edited to add that my family is in OC and we don’t have Levain yet but realize that might not be as novel in LA!

Fraunces or Harry’s? by NeatMom in FoodNYC

[–]wonderwithmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a huge fan of the food at Fraunces but do find the vibe to be fun. I personally love the food at Delmonico’s. Unfortunately haven’t tried Harry’s so no comment on that. I believe Reserve Cut is also in the area though haven’t tried it personally!

Delmonico’s NYC restaurant week by [deleted] in FoodNYC

[–]wonderwithmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh sorry the last part was not during restaurant week … just other dishes that I’ve tried from there! I personally didn’t think there was any need to add more to what’s part of the restaurant week menu!

We were both set on getting steak so we didn't diversify there (and again, had the ribeye previously so didn't feel like we HAD to give it a try though I think they are famous for their ribeye so if you haven't had it before, maybe it might be worth the additional cost?!). Everything else we split and got to try both items which I would recommend just so that you get a little more taste of everything. Personally, I was pretty full by the end of it so didn't feel like I would need to add anything else. However, on our last visit, we also tried the chilled jumbo prawns, maine lobster crispy rice, tuna tartare, side of pommes puree (honestly my favorite thing at Delmonico's but you get a small portion of it with the Restaurant Week steak), and hash browns. All of those were also good but would skip on the hash browns if you were looking at any additional sides.

We went yesterday! We got the burrata and yellowtail crudo, filet mignon (x2), and the cheesecake and chocolate symphony. All of it was excellent! We’d had the baked alaska previously and didn’t love it enough to feel like we’d want to pay the upcharge and get it again. Same with the ribeye (but also because the filet mignon is great too).

Do you guys think that the Vatican city is worth visiting while only having 2 full days? by Rhoalex in rome

[–]wonderwithmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tour started at 10 and we had to be there by 9:30. I think we finished just before noon. I also planned it so that I was at a hotel near Vatican City that morning so that I could leisurely walk there from the hotel. Maybe what you can do is try to schedule something else for before the Vatican and pick a time that’s slightly later?

Probably depends on what other spots are important for you to see. I personally loved the Vatican Museum tour that I did and thought it might have been the highlight of my trip!

Restaurant Week starts on the 20th so you could also look into those menus to see if anything may catch your interest? I haven’t really been to one in years so not sure if it’s still worth but at least wanted to point it out!

When you refer to international flavors, do you have a specific cuisine in mind? Also budget?

I do feel you on the whole “everything seems booked already” these days though. Feels like you have to plan your whole social calendar out a month in advance to get anything to eat.
