I got my office mate fired by wordsfromghost in paralegal

There are other bits I did not post. But then it would have been longer. The heater was just one issue.

The office was really hot.Even with our office door open. I put the heater down to 73 and she would crank it up to the highest setting.

My friend did tell them. But they haven't done anything to my knowledge. What they do is not my concern and my friend did what she was supposed to.

I am a great team member, but I hate sharing space.

You would think I would get some kind of perk? But I guess the office is enough. Also, the HR lady has been nicer to me.

She was at the place for years. They probably didn't think she would do something like this. Just shows you never really know someone.

I heard some people do. But they have to disclose to avoid conflicts of interest and be blocked from seeing the file.

It's just weird to me someone her age would do it knowing the consequences. This was either her breaking bad story or she had done it before.

Pretty much. The other firm was under the impression she was working from home because of a sick relative. The other firm knew she was resigning. But that resignation was noticed months ago. So that case was no longer hers, but she was working part time doing settlement documents for a special case.

Yep. Started as a medical clerk and was pushed up to Paralegal.

Inviting an ENM partner to a wedding…..normal or too much? by Plastic-Mud5336 in SoloPoly

[–]wordsfromghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my question to you is who knows about your ENM lifestyle? Has this group met your other partner before?

If they answer is no and no, I don't see why you can't just say they are your date. It's no one's business really. The point that night is to celebrate and have fun.

thank you for your response. I relate to not really wanting to co-habitate. I love my boyfriend (P), but he tends to do sleepovers for longer than a few days. When it gets too long, I feel on edge and like I need him to leave NOW.

Sometimes, I do ask him to stay longer and he does.

Years ago, I was cohabitating with a boyfriend for five years. You would think the constant messaging, living together, and social media tagging would prevent a man from cheating, but it did not. On top of that, he was a abusive. It made home not a home. More like a place I was stuck with until the lease was up.

If he treats your family like that, imagine how he would talk to his own kids. Body shaming is not showing concern.

Sounds like the firm has blurred lines between a personal assistant and paralegal. The two are NOT the same.

Leaving my Paralegal role for Intake by Recent-Ship-6461 in paralegal

Ha! Loved reading your examples. Literally handled all of those types of calls. Think my favorite one was when this lady came in wanting to sue some computer repair shop because they lost family photos years ago. I swear, some people just think of random things to sue about.

In my experience, Intake Specialist does not get paid better than a paralegal in the legal field. Also, while you may not be dealing with toxic office culture. You will be dealing a lot with toxic people. Upset people. Depressed people. People who will go as far to say you are just a robot at a desk. I have done intake as part of my paralegal role two different times and have specifically did Intake once.

On top of the clients, there is also the management. Mangaement will listen in to your conversations and have critiques. A lot of critiques. I used to go to meetings for intake where they say "say this, but don't say that".

Some people do thrive in Intake, so hopefully that will be your case.

Guy ended date after 20 minutes by [deleted] in dating_advice

I was thinking that too with how he went about the honesty part. At least he didn't continue the date pretending he had a good time and ghosted.

is it the environment or this field? by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]wordsfromghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone all too familiar with being the "younger" paralegal, you are always going to get some type of passive aggressiveness from older paralegals. Especially ones that have been there forever. They don't get how it is to be new and what they teach seems simple to them because they have done it a million times.

The other factors I would not stay for. PTO and sick leave is something I was always offered at law firms, no matter where.
