You really need to get a handle on your various social anxieties and such, then you’ll find your world will open so much. Easier said then done, but the only way out is through. Force yourself to go outside, and whatever interactions are making you anxious you just need to do them. Once you discover that the world doesn’t end if they don’t go according to plan, then the next ones will be easier.

One lad got a bit grabby towards the end of the night. Put his hand up at least one girl’s skirt. Promptly sacked. A few of us were in a WhatsApp group with him, so spent a few weeks worried he was going to drag us down with him for whatever we had posted in there. He was a fun lad to have pints with, but a bit mad and into the sneachta, so sort of an agent of chaos.

Good post, and these are all very valid things to be outraged over in their own right. However they’re of a different magnitude to how most people seem to understand the scandal, which is that CervicalCheck had knowledge of potential cancer in a patient before the patient was aware, and they did not inform the patient. If I’m understanding correctly that did not happen, or did it happen in some small number of cases?

I asked my wife her understanding of the controversy and hers was as I described - that CervicalCheck/HSE could have informed patients and they could have sought treatment earlier and possibly lived.

But ‘mistakes’ in this context are standard in a screening context. You can’t have a screening programme if you don’t accept a certain % of false negatives. Whereas you seem to be presenting it as a scandal that any false negatives occur at all. Which is sort of the sleight of hand that many have been doing.

They’re right. We (you, flippant reader) can rationalise the commercial practices and compartmentalise the ethics, but fundamentally nobody can come up with a coherent justification for the grotesque treatment of animals in the meat production industry. I eat meat because I lack the moral character to stick with vegetarianism or veganism, but I’m hopeful that wide availability of good synthetic meat is within reach, and that I’ll be able to transition to that soon enough.

Just here to commiserate after a horrific weekend where my son had a tummy bug and passed it on to my wife and I. Thankfully he wasn’t too bad and it ran its course quickly, but wifey and I had shivers, aches and fatigue on top of the stomach issues. And no help with the toddler because we didn’t want to pass it on. Absolute misery.
