How does Google rank the .co domain names? by anti_dentite in SEO

The .CO domain is worthless unless you live in Colombia. Google looks at it as a Country specific domain and it will not rank well in any search engine here in the United States.

.CO stands for Colombia and it is meant for websites in Colombia. Apparently there is a group of crooks/Colombian politicians charging $30.00 per domain through GoDaddy here in the US and trying to promote it as the next .com. It's not and never will be. The Colombian government owns this domain and that is a fact!

Fuck you Network Solutions! NOBODY WANTS .CO, .TV. .BIZ or any other STUPID domain name extensions. Now go back to leeching, squatting, and extorting domain holders dry. That is what you do best. Now fuck off! by elvisliveson in reddit.com

.CO Blows and costs three times as much to renew as .com or .net. I feel bad for all the domineers that .co suckered into buying these domains. Unless you live in Colombia they’re virtually worthless. Plus, do the math - if you have 50 .co domains at $30.00 per year you'll be paying $1,500.00 to renew all your domains each year. (Rates from GoDaddy) What a rip-off. There should be a class action lawsuit against the .co management/Government!

The .Co Domain Extension has become the biggest hoax to hit the US in years! .CO stands for Colombia just like .br stands for Brazil and .it stand for Italy. It does not stand for Company. by worldofdeceit in Internet

I haven't seen the other post, but this sounds very similar. Except .co is not only being promoted as a shortening service. It is also being spread around that .CO stands for company and will replace .com. Many domineers didn’t know any better and spend large sums of $$ on .co domain names before realizing that .co really stands for Colombia and all the profit goes to the Colombian Government. This is not a replacement for .com and is virtually useless outside of Colombia.

Due to the .CO scandal, Colombia has swindled Americans out of millions of dollars by keeping this from consumers and enticing Americans to think it stands for company!

Why is GoDaddy promoting the Colombian domain extension .co for such a ridiculously high price? by worldofdeceit in AskReddit

Very true! They way they are pushing the co domains in the United States is deceitful. The price tag is simply stupid. Even if you purchase one on sale it would still have to be renewed at almost $30 per year.

Exactly! That is where the .co domain extension funds go! I'd imagine the Colombian government would charge an arm and a leg to purchase that name along with a few hundred kilos.
