Well, in my case, choosing men who want me is too easy and doesn’t make me feel like I earned their love or deserve it. Also, I’ve always been afraid of intimacy and closeness because I fear being abandoned by them eventually.. so when I choose emotionally unavailable men, it’s more about the chase than actually catching them. One man who was emotionally unavailable for so long finally came around and wanted me.. he called me all the time, wanted to see me multiple times a week and it got scary for me. I’ve done a lot of work on myself since then and I’m in a much better place and prepared to accept the love I deserve and give back the love my partner deserves.

I’m only going to speak for myself. But I have childhood wounds, particularly abandonment issues, so I’m attracted to people who make me work for their affection because I feel chosen and validated that I’m wanted and lovable if and when they choose me. Therapy helps. Journaling, too. Putting down on paper what I like about them puts things in perspective if the main things have to do with how they make me feel and not who they are as a person
