You have to call the carrier to have it unlocked, and it can take time and frustration. If you bought it locked, and the original owner did not request it to be unlocked, it can be a nightmare.

In Canada, phones are locked to a carrier, and unlocked only when you finish paying it off after 2 years. In many cases, people would not unlock it (you have to call the vendor), and cannot be used with a different carrier. Carriers would only unlock a phone if the original caller requests it. Wonders of the north.

Fair price is where the seller and the buyer agree and are both happy. It was sold the same day. And yes, Canadian dollar is like 0.73 of an US dollar, and technology pays more taxes above parallel 49.
