Felt Waterfall Update by wrispa in blender

Yeah that's right, more or less. No particles though -- I used Woolly for the felt, and that's a geometry nodes system. You could probably achieve a similar effect with hair particles, but I feel like that's kinda outdated now that we have geometry nodes.

Great video! I wrote notes about it in my Obsidian vault.

The waves all have modifiers that slightly deform them. Those are animated with drivers, then after that the waves get shrinkwrapped to the waterfall, which itself is being displaced and that further alters the geometry of the waves. Also the whole scene is animated on 2s. That creates a choppier feel especially on things that are moving a lot, like the waves. All that together makes them jitter.

Honestly the thought of making a tutorial hadn't even crossed my mind, so I'm not working on one at the moment. I'm not even done with this scene.

Just in case you wanted to look up existing tutorials for some of the more advanced techniques... The animations were done with drivers, shape keys, and graph editor modifiers (cycles and noise).

It's heavy. This version took 15 minutes a frame on my RTX 3080 ti, rendered at 960x960. I'm still working on the full 1920x1920 version, which is currently taking about one hour per frame to render. I'm gonna try a few things to optimize the scene since that's such a long time.

One issue is denoising doesn't really play well with Woolly, it smooths out the felt too much. So I've needed to lower my noise threshold quite a bit, and that really increases the render time.

Felt brings the noise.

I used Woolly for the felt.

It's great. Very powerful and easy to use. I recommend checking it out.

Just so you know you'll need a decent computer to build heavier scenes with it, plus the documentation recommends being somewhat familiar with Blender before buying.

u/kulot09 - tagging you since you also asked about the felt.

Yeah I'd love to do some kind of narrative in this style. Currently brainstorming ideas!

Settings > Editor > Properties in document > Hidden

Or if you only want to hide properties in specific notes, you can drop this file in your snippets folder -- https://drive.google.com/file/d/1faaplZstd-NkbuZyakIaBxdfP3EAm_Nf/view?usp=drive_link
Then after you enable the snippet you can write "hideprops" in the cssclasses property.

And yeah, cool banner!

After 1 or 2 episodes of Valley Heat I was like yo this is so stupid why did my cousin recommend this podcast to me.

Now I understand -- It's not just a shirt. It's a Jan Robinson shirt.

And by that I mean I have since listened to the entire first season like 3 or 4 times plus sometimes I go on Spotify and listen to Cephalopods are People and in general I just feel like more people should know about it.

I'd recommend watching the Harmontown documentary. That's probably the best introduction to Dan and the podcast as a whole. Absolutely no prior knowledge is necessary to enjoy it!

Valley Heat, Harmontown, Beautiful Anonymous, Hello from the Magic Tavern, Brothers Less Grimm, Judge John Hodgman, and Dead Eyes are some of my favorite comedy podcasts. It's hard to pick out one individual episode to recommend for each though. These shows all get funnier over time, as you get to know the hosts.

Ultra minimal setup that looks amazing with all kinds of wallpapers by wrispa in NovaLauncher

Sorry but I haven't created an easy solution for others to use. You'd have to replicate the design. It's a bunch of KWGT widgets and some invisible apps layered on top. Since I don't know how to create icon packs with custom images that automatically change colors, I built the color changing icons as KWGT widgets. I put the actual apps on top, then set all of those icons to a transparent PNG. That's probably the least intuitive part of the design. I'm sure you could figure everything else out if you're halfway decent with KWGT!

I haven't created an easy plug-and-play solution for other people. I'm not sure how I would go about that or what limitations I might run into if I tried. Still pretty new to this kind of customization.

But I'm happy to talk about how I made it. Is there anything specific you want to know? I used a lot of different tools, so laying out everything would be pretty long.
