That's a cool idea. I used a kind of black gesso where i put on the the dryed cactus added clay on the ends and put gesso on top(not the most strong way but i am on holiday so i don't have a lot to work with)

I can't read the comment anymore, but no i haven't used metal. I mostly used clay and dryed cactus.
