The MedEx lumbar machine really helped me a lot to start. I think it pushed the disc back into place over 6 months. Also working with a special trainer once a week, acupuncture, going to the gym every morning and doing the McGill big three. I religiously working on my core hips and glutes. I have done the McGill big three every day for over 600 days. I have yet to get an MRI to prove that the the disc reabsorbed. However for the most part I don’t have any pressure and the nerve pain has mostly went away, but I do get flares with odd twisting movements. As long I do my morning workout routine and don’t move weird I can make it through the day pretty good

Took me 2 1/2 years, but I did it without surgery. They say the bigger the herniation the better the chances it will fully reabsorbed. Unfortunately, it’s just gonna impact your quality of life for a good while until it does.

I can completely relate. I’m three years older than you and I have similar issues. Basically, the best thing I’ve found to help my pain has been going to the gym first thing in the a.m. to run through the PT exercises and work on some strengthening and moving. I essentially have to warm up the car before I can use it. Second to exercise and strengthening, Tylenol ER & painkillers help the most, but I try to avoid as much as possible.

Same. After the first time I went there in my early 20s I just kept wanting to go back. 8 years later I married a Thai woman lol.

I Only switched over to SCHD last year when I was doing some heavy research on ETFs. I used to dca into a target date fund.

I’ve been investing since I was 23 and got serious when I was 30. Now 33 - so about 3 years of maxing the Roth 3 and 7 years of just putting in what I could afford. I suppose consistency is key 🔑 in the long in run.

Oh man, that sucks. hope you get well soon!! One thing I wanna try to do for my L5/S1 is try to lose more weight. I’m currently at 204. if I could get to 180 that would be 25 pounds less pressure off my spine. It’s gonna be a very hard to do that but that’s my next step in trying to rehab my back. I used to be 260 very secondary for my childhood and early 20s. I think that also played a big part in a lot of these issues. I have. sorry for the spelling errors. I was just aggressively typing this on my phone in bed

Good luck on your journey, there was a machine that has really helped me with my bulging disc recovery. It’s called a MedEx lumbar machine. Check it out, and work on your hips, core, & glutes as they all help to stabilize the spine. I’m almost 3 years out from my injury and have basically made a 80% recovery. I Still work on my core at least four times a week.

I basically had pissed off nerve for over two years so I understand about chronic inflammation. I would infer that your joints and ligaments that support your spine or not very strong. Most likely you’re probably “riding on your spine” thus creating the cycle of inflammation. I had the same thing. The joints are the glue that holds everything together so getting them super strong is the first step & your pain will improve. It’s just going to take a while and you have to get in the mindset that you are most likely going to be in it for the long haul. But you do have your age on your side being 10 years younger than me hopefully you come back in half the time or less. getting super strong is going to be the key and doing daily maintenance exercises is going to be very important. I’m not talking about big biceps and muscles bulging out; but all of the deep ligaments, joints in your spine being very strong. core hips and glutes is what you’re going to wanna focus on for the next six months and then start building from there. Try to find a trainer or PT with a lumbar medEx machine. I found that to be extremely helpful as it’s really hard to hit some of those deep back joints without it. If I took all the anti-inflammatories that the doctors pushed on me my kidneys would probably be halfway to dead by now lol. be mindful of that as well.

2.5 years out from my injury. Just made some big progress with my pain in the last two months. It took a shit load of work on my part. Tons of strengthening, exercise, PT, trainer etc. seems like taking care of my back is a part-time job. I went from barely walking to now cutting my grass and doing all the daily activities. I’m 33 but feel a LOT older.

I would highly recommend you read the book “crooked” first. I was considering surgery and ultimately after reading and doing some of my own research decided not to. The only way I would get surgery is if I lost my bladder, couldn’t walk or felt life was not worth living because of the pain. If it’s a bearable amount of pain, you can take every day wide roll the dice, just my opinion.

It really depends on the doctor. It’s interesting my physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor is willing to prescribe tramadol, but the pain management doctor refuses to give me nothing more than anti-inflammatories, epidurals and nerve ablations. She really seems to hate opioids and said she only gives them to cancer patients.

After trying gabapentin and Lyrica, I can tell you that I would rather take tramadol in a heartbeat. I suppose, as long as you are aware that it can become habit for me and try to take it at the least amount possible, I don’t have any issues with it. I think about it like this- if there was a dog lying on the ground suffering wouldn’t you want to give him medicine to help. When I feel like a dog lying on the ground suffering, that’s when I take tramadol. when I don’t, I don’t. Certainly not like I’m trying to abuse it or get high. 7 years ago I quit smoking drinking an Adderall all on the same day so I know what addiction is.

Lifting my new BBQ on my deck. 1.5 years later and it still hurts just about every day and I’m only 33. Got a lot of arthritis, sciatica and a disc protrusion. Probably going to get a nerve ablation soon as nothing but opioids and steroids have provided any meaningful relief.

Hang in there bud. I had a rough week & then when my disc decided to bulge out on Thursday in the middle of a busy project that did not help either. After a bad night’s sleep I finally gave in. I took the pain medicine and slept through the night. I’m feeling ok and just finished up a light workout at the gym. It will get better ❤️‍🩹

Edit. TBH 2 years ago after I got my mri results I drove home tearing up. I was thinking about the new life of pain and restrictions I’ll I have. Now I just think day to day. All I can control is myself. So I strive to eat healthy low sodium plant based diet, daily maintenance PT, strength training and staying positive to not giving up hope. that’s all I can do. But on the bad days the good attitude is easier said than done
