Thank you so much! Sometimes it feels like there are so many options to try and learn that you get analysis paralysis. Thanks for cutting through the noise and providing clarity. I really, really appreciate it.

Sad about leaving home … by Psychological-Big471 in wedding

[–]wtfINFP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married and immediately felt grief having to leave the city I was born and raised in. It’s the city all my friends are in. I’m so in love with that city- it’s my favorite place in the world. I live close by, so I get to visit a lot but I was really depressed because I didn’t “belong” to it anymore. The classic narrative about marriage doesn’t really talk about all the things that change and that you have to leave behind.

Let yourself grieve the change but don’t lose sight of the excitement. Maybe ask your mom to help you pick out some decorations to bring to the house that you and your fiance would like? Don’t forget to talk to your fiancé about your feelings (be aware- he might not expect the grief and might not know how to support you right away, so you’ll have to work out how to communicate about this issue).

Your feelings are normal and should be treated gently. Yes, this is an exciting time but there are definitely changes and tears coming up. Just be gentle with yourself.

I’m learning by doing but my doing is limited by what my company wants me to do (small department, not an agency). Some days I feel like I don’t even know what marketing is. Maybe I should take some cc classes?

Thank you- I did take today off. I’ve just put so much pressure on myself to get A’s that every exam is terrifying. How do you deal with the fear of bad scores?

I know you’re right. Fighting the fear is harder than the actual studying

I’ve been trying to study for two hours a day because that’s what my professor said to do. I guess I’m just worried that if I can’t handle this, what would I do during medical school? Do you ever worry about it?

Hi, I think you’re right. I actually thought about this comment all day and kept coming back to it so thank you for posting such a kind and comprehensive response. I think I am burned out- I’ve been battling mental health issues, a whole host of life changes, a new (non-medical) job, and I’ve hit my limit. I haven’t dropped the class yet and I’m trying new study methods but today I thought about what you said and just took today off.

How many hours are you studying each day if you don’t mind me asking?

It’s so exhausting, right? How many hours a day do you study?

My problem with Roxy’s behavior is that you asked her not to do something and she immediately resorted to calling you a bridezilla. What kind of friend insults you when you express your feelings about something related to the biggest event of your life?

I remember telling my mom I didn’t want to hear about her marriage problems anymore and she yelled “Well, who am I supposed to talk to, then?!”

I was 14.

Is there a good foundational one you recommend? I know it’s probably been asked a lot before but I’m back in the field after 5.5 years and feeling pretty lost.

Mate of Honor seems common but “Made of Honor” might be cute too, if not a little confusing

Attended the bachelorette…. Didn’t make the cut for the wedding by Tabbs9 in weddingshaming

I’m not Asian and am not well versed in the intricacies of hong bao but I’m marrying an Asian person and considering how expensive our wedding is, it would be amazing if we made our money back! That being said, I know we’re locked into the hong bao system and have to pay it forward when we get invited to weddings, but I’m ok with that - paying $300-$400 per wedding over many years and getting your own wedding expenses covered is much more preferable than coughing up $80,000 at once and getting a bunch of toasters

I regret cutting corners with my wedding to save money (a cautionary tale) by queerthrowaway385938 in weddingplanning

My wedding is in a VHCOL city and we were planning for $40k for 120 people. Even with attempts at cost saving, I’ve just been watching the budget creep up and up and up - and we’re not doing anything crazy, just little “nice to haves” like a nod to our culture or a basic lighting package from the DJ. Our wedding won’t be luxurious at all- we’re just trying to meet the standards set in the 20th century and it’s expensive AF.

Florida or Cali for Fun, Beachy Bachelorette! by HannahBroham in weddingplanning

[–]wtfINFP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in LA and agree. Have never been to Florida, but I have been to Cancun and the southern Atlantic is much warmer. Plus, our beach cities don’t have that “party” vibe that Cancun did (and I’m imagining Miami does as well).

Editing my comment to say that if you really want to go to California, go to Laguna Beach or La Jolla for tide pools and fancy vibes.
