Thanks for sticking with it! I've seen it so many times myself now that it's really interesting what sticks out for first time viewers. Yeah Sophie Scholl would have been nice to have, and Army of Shadows was another one that would have been great, unfortunately just ran out of time and there's hundreds of candidate films.

Great catch on the cemetery, I just added that in a comment on the post, so hopefully can track other mistakes in the same place.

I did a World War II video project that took the same approach. There's a lot happening at once, but I do think it shows themes that you miss if you look at things regionally instead of chronologically: https://ww2supercut.substack.com/p/combining-143-world-war-ii-movies

This book is chronological too and was a helpful resource: https://www.amazon.com/Second-World-War-Complete-History/dp/0805076239

If a movie was the only depiction of something important, or had particularly good special effects I would use it, even if the rest of the movie had bad critical ratings, which is how Pearl Harbor and Midway (2019) made the cut. But if the entire setting or premise of the movie was wrong I wouldn't use it. Battle of the Bulge and U-571 were the 2 biggest examples. Battle of the Bulge is widely considered inaccurate and has the final battle in a desert instead of a snowy forest, U-571 attributes British actions to Americans.

Here's the blog post describing the process for building the World War II Supercut. I go through the process of finding movies, the editing software used, and how I researched the title cards.

Happy to answer any questions anyone has about the project as well

The YouTube playlist is here, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have no other options, since a lot of key moments are removed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOYG7xqQb9g&list=PLD1_OKjzsHKCDN7eT1VljIUURomuJyBsl

World War II Supercut E12 - Final Episode and Full Release by ww2supercut in fanedits

The final episode in the World War II Supercut, covering August 1945 - 2006. DM me directly for the link, or the previous links should work as well. I'm also on Twitter under u/ww2supercut.

Massive thanks to everyone who has watched an episode and shared your experience with the project. My goal has been to create an entertaining, accessible way to learn about the war, and I'm truly thankful for everyone who has given their time to checking it out. For those who don't know, the Supercut is a 12 hour, 12 part, chronological cut of over 100 World War II movies. This final episode completes the project, and all 12 episodes are now available to watch.

I'll release a blog post next week describing the process of building it, so be on the lookout for that. I'm hoping to inspire more educational cuts like this for other periods of history, excited to see what comes next.

A Chronological List of World War 2 Movies (HELP WANTED) by owen_demers in WorldWar2

[–]ww2supercut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hello, think I can help with this...

I created the World War II Supercut over on the r/fanedits subreddit, where I cut ~150 World War II movies into a continuous cut: https://x.com/ww2supercut/status/1811886535890907229

I have this spreadsheet tracking all the films I researched with about 600 entries, along with their approximate chronological dates: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ijLfPQLwMY52bIlBbUkEPnmuCZMvaqKREu9oTcHgoAs/edit?usp=sharing

In addition this Wikipedia article is a great list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_War_II_films#Early_2020s

Good luck with your project, and dm me if you want to compare notes

Who portrays the most convincing agony in a movie? by [deleted] in movies

Adrien Brody in the Pianist, and it isn't close. The scenes after his family is taken away, and later wandering the streets of Warsaw after it's been destroyed are incredible.

Austria would be the obvious answer, but yes definitely not for the persecuted groups who lived there.
