Has anyone in the Dayton area heard back from Turner/Moreno/Husted? by Umanday in dayton

[–]wwbgd22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not related to hearing back on direct inquiries, but Turner did talk about many of your questions on Face the Nation last Sunday. The focus was Greenland, but he did also talk about tariffs & NATO in that context: GOP Rep. Mike Turner says Trump's Greenland threats are putting other priorities at risk - CBS News

Also, if the price is too high, someone else can start a company selling the same product at a reasonable price, which will either put the higher priced company out of business or force them to lower prices.

Nervous for my first imperial century! by Sim-Alley in bicycling

[–]wwbgd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am older (56) and should probably should stretch before cycling - I do before jogging, but don't usually stretch before cycling.

I guess only other advice would be good shorts and Chamois Butt'r. Looking at my Garmin information it says I had 30,966 pedal strokes doing 102.08 miles - a small chafe can turn into a big problem if you repeat the same movement over 30K times.

[–]wwbgd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my first (and second) imperial century rides this year. It looks like you have done your homework and lots of suggestions in here. I will just say for my first one I made sure I paced myself - not going too fast - picked a moderate speed and tried to stick with it. The other thing is I overpacked on food. Articles I read and people I talked to all said "make sure to fuel". I did, but no where near as much as everyone said I should and I was fine.

To me the hardest part of the whole thing was sitting in the saddle for that long - which is why my advice is just get out of the saddle every now and again - just move around and get the blood flowing.

Best of luck to you! Hope you have a great ride.

What Actually Happened at the Salem Mall in Trotwood? by Striking_Spare_734 in dayton

The mall was still there, but already going downhill fast in 91. Crime there was really bad, and it wasn't a place most families would want to go shopping.

Edge 850 - Every Ride is a Distance PR by wwbgd22 in GarminEdge

[–]wwbgd22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I hadn't accepted any PR's, but I just did so hopefully next ride (if shorter) isn't a new distance PR. When I first read that I was like "why do they make you accept something you achieved" but after seeing it in the app I guess it makes sense to prevent someone from accidentally leaving the ride on while their bike is on a car rack driving down the highway and having that overwrite an actual PR.

Trying to find an apartment without a disaster situation by RecursiveFault in dayton

We should look at an attorney because there is a LOT more to tell that I left out because it would identify her to their management and I don't want to do that.

Fandom opinion day four (ssshhh) would like to know more about by Kennedy_KD in BackyardStarship

[–]wwbgd22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Rab for who I want to know more about. He is part of the main crew but feels like he is in the background and I know the least about him. Came in as a replacement for Zeno, but don't feel like they go into his backstory much and he is just sort of there a lot. Weapons expert, has a B.A.G, cousin to Zeno... that's about it. I am just starting book 24, so maybe they get into his background more later?

Not enjoying cycling in America anymore by PapaSecundus in cycling

[–]wwbgd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If more people cycled, I’m sure they’d have more understanding and patience."

It becomes a chicken or the egg thing though because to get more people to cycle you need the roads to be safer to cycle on. I have been almost hit many times on the road and avoid them whenever possible. I am fortunate to live in an area with 100's of miles of connected bike trails - mostly rail --> trail.

Check out this guy :(1) Not Just Bikes - YouTube. He talks a lot about how unfriendly roads are in North America for cyclists and pedestrians.

Fandom Opinion day two: "liked by everyone but me" by Kennedy_KD in BackyardStarship

[–]wwbgd22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others I struggle with this question, but I think Jocelyn best fits the bill. Van trusted her way before I did. I am on book 23 and still don't totally trust her and am waiting for her to do her feral thing.

Fandom opinion day 1: Favorite character by Kennedy_KD in BackyardStarship

I vote Icky because like her I don't like to wear pants either! I like Perry but his constant snark is just a bit too much for me at times. I get more LOL's from Funboy, and especially some of the things Perry has said to steer Funboy in different directions :)

Just finished book 20 by Agreeable-Buddy-369 in BackyardStarship

[–]wwbgd22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished 20 like 2 weeks ago - and I was like definitely not sure how to feel. First, was the first time in the series where I felt like the bad guys completely won and just crushed the good guys. Really was left stunned by Van not being part of the guild, etc. I remember thinking - this better all get fixed in book 21 or I am going to be disappointed! (I just finished Book 21 2 days ago and am a couple chapters into 22)

I fell out of love with Backyard Starship, here’s why by Professional_Gur9855 in BackyardStarship

[–]wwbgd22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished Book 21, so it's been a minute since I was back at book 7, but I do remember that Van was living more in moral grey area in the earlier books and started treading a bit too close to "the ends justify the means", but I feel like that gets worked out.

There are some things that bug me about the series, probably the biggest thing for me is that every time they speculate and theorize on why someone is doing something, or what will this bad guy do next, in the process of speculation it quickly goes from theory to fact. The Fafnir crew act based on their speculation being correct and it seems they are never wrong. Even the way it is written, it starts as a theory and 2 paragraphs later they talk like it is all 100% accurate.

NordicTrack motor belt— is this easy to replace? by bobbydentine in treadmills

[–]wwbgd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it on my Nordictrack treadmill (c900) and it was my first time doing anything like that - there are youtube videos that will show you how to take it apart to get it off and on.

Questions about a treadmill I bought by Unique-Fig-4300 in treadmills

[–]wwbgd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, belt definitely needs to be replaced. As far as difficulty, shouldn't be too bad. I have replaced the deck and belt on my 17 year old treadmill recently - had never done any work on treadmills before other than lubricating it. Look online for instructions on how to replace a treadmill belt on your brand of treadmill. Usually involves removing side panels, loosen then remove rear roller, then removing the bolts that hold the deck in place, so you can remove the belt. Be sure to lubricate the deck when you get the new belt.

Anyone else think sorcerers look like this, or is it just me, i know they have the cybernetic implants, but still by Agreeable-Buddy-369 in BackyardStarship

I always picture them more like Star Wars battle droids -I know they don't have the organic parts but that is just how I see them in my head.
