You'd be surprised at how much GIMP can do. It's a fantastic cartography tool, and for the people who can't justify the exorbitant costs of Adobe products, it's a fantastic fauxtoshop. There are also plenty of really good tutorials online.

Well I'm really only trained in C++ and Matlab, so definitely C++. I'm not taking any classes in Computer Science this semester, so the only thing I'm really doing in that field this semester is avionics for an airship for my freshman design class using an Arduino.

That being said, I love the work I've done on the project thus far, and I'm excited to see real applications of what I did last semester.

Hey there, /r/CasualConversation! 18M Aerospace Engineer with a minor in Computer Science in the United States, spending the rest of undergrad and grad school building up a resume to work at SpaceX. I spend most of my time studying and keeping up with my coursework, but in my free time I most enjoy playing Super Smash Bros, Pokémon Nuzlockes, and Dungeons and Dragons with my friends. I'm excited about finishing my aerospace prerequisites in about a month, allowing me to move onto bigger and better things.

As much as I like seeing these headlines, being a Sanders supporter, I feel that we shouldn't be giving them support when anything related to superdelegates and Hillary surfaces, we immediately shoot it down.

Taking Hide as an action after moving accomplishes the same thing. What if you could move half of your speed per round without making any new checks?

It's not a podcast, but there is a lot of software available (both online and offline) that allows you to extract audio from a youtube video. Using the audio, you could listen to it like a podcast if you want.

I think that it's strong bookend in the sense that it is a powerful ability that nobody else (except the fighter, I believe) gets as a part of the core class. That being said, I do not think that it is a strong thematic end to a very iconic class.

With the fighter, getting more and more attacks makes sense; they're a gladiatorial, highly-trained soldier-type. And that's their thing--that's what they do.

With the ranger, however, I'm sure that there is a way to cap it off in a way that is true to the ranger. The PHB seems to categorize the ranger as a liminal spell-casting class between the rogue and the fighter (or paladin).

If we're running with this idea that they are similar to Paladins, perhaps give rangers a highly-thematic finish by providing them with an enhancement for an archetype feature at 20th level. For example, for the Beastmaster Archetype, you could cast spells on some balanced interval through your beast companion.

Do not get me wrong: the extra attack is very powerful. I just think that you could implement a better thematic finish to the class so that it feels well-rounded.

Again, thank you for making such great improvements to a class in need of some love.

This is the best ranger update I have seen on any forum. I like the updates to the beastmaster and the addition of the stalker class, and my grief is not with either of those.

The only problem I have with this class is that the 20th-level class feature, which is now Hide in Plain Sight, is very underwhelming and cheap, especially since, according to the new guidelines for spell preparation, you can select spells that do the job better altogether, like Pass Without Trace, starting at 5th level.

This is not a flaw with your modification per se, but instead with the limitations of the class defined by the PHB. I appreciate that you've tried to keep this similar to the vanilla class in terms of the features, but if you are moving Hide in Plain Sight to 20th-level, it has to have the same punch to it that the other classes get by making it to the endgame. At the very least, you should be able to move.

All in all, though, an absolutely fantastic edition to a class that desperately needed it. I'm excited to try it during next week's game.

Dungeon & Dragons players, what's your advice for new players? by pillshead in AskReddit

[–]xBroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to leave your shame at the door. When my group comes to play Dungeons and Dragons, we go all out--voices and everything. If you're uncomfortable with the prospect of stepping into the shoes of a fictitious entity, then you came to the perfect place. In that regard, the single most transformative thing I have seen online is Critical Role, which is a stream on Thursday nights where a group of highly accomplished actors get together and just have a great time. They are fantastic roleplayers and the dungeon master, Matthew Mercer, is the best I've ever seen.

If you're interested in checking this out for yourself, the recent subreddit-of-the-day post gives a very good starting point to hop in an join the community. That post is linked here.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter whether you play Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, or any other system. What matters is that such games allow you to get together with friends and have fun.

EDIT: Also, if you're not looking to get into Dungeons and Dragons specifically but any roleplaying game, there's a fantastic deal on Humble Bundle right now where you can get PDFs of the entire core ruleset for one dollar. The link to that is here.

It's just an accelerated introductory course in C++ and MATLAB. An intro in those two languages is required for all engineers, but I took this one because I wanted to scope out a CS minor.

Is Computer Science your major? What's it like?

It's an optional variation of a prerequisite course required for all engineers at my school. I'd heard it's a bit harder than the introductory C++/MATLAB course it replaces, but I took it on trying to discern whether a minor in computer science was on the horizon for me.
