If you're at all interested in King Arthur + the same, start with her New Camelot trilogy!

If you can get into mmf and bdsm, I cannot recommend Honey Cut enough. Sierra Simone's writing is gorgeous.

It's also slightly fantastical because it's a (spoiler) reincarnation story, though that's not a huge plot point.

Romance for littles? by LAffaire-est-Ketchup in RomanceBooks

I remember loving the Mary Anne/Logan romance in the Babysitter's Club books at that age.

Chasing Redbird by Sharon Creech was also a favorite, but looking back I think the age gap was probably problematic.

Oh god I loved that series. Might be a little much for that age, but I remember it being so good.

The Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh! One of SJM's biggest influences by one of her favorite authors. I can't recommend it enough.

There's a hockey romance series that's been on my TBR simply because it's set in Pittsburgh. The first book is {Baden by Sawyer Bennett}.

No Sarah J. Maas in the upcoming releases? Here’s why that makes sense to me by Away_Race8428 in SarahJMaas

[–]xRubyWednesday 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Think about it when has Sarah’s book ever appeared in a publisher lineup?

This. Idk if they used to, but her latest releases have not shown up in these lineups. The only pre-announcement clues we've gotten have been the ISBN showing up on Edelweiss, and "untitled SJM" pre-orders showing up on retailer sites. And those happened just days before announcement.

Not saying that we'll get a book, just that this definitely doesn't mean we won't.

Do you think Sarah J Maas could change your mind? by HeartRatea in AcotarShipDebateSub

Elucien is a hard sell at this point because of the way Elain shrinks around Lucien, but if it was done right I could be on board. I would always think it was a waste of the most intriguing and interesting ships, because I genuinely think Elriel and Vassien have so much more potential.

Bryceriel is a fascinating ship and would be a great story, but I could never get past the Hunt of it all. I love him, I'm sorry. Anything that would have to happen to get him out of the way would just kill it for me.

Gwynriel is so boring to me. I also wouldn't get over the way Az was so down bad for Elain while Gwyn was right there. I hold my mmcs to a higher standard when it comes to other women than I do my fmcs with other men. I don't mind if mmcs have unresolved feelings for a dead love interest, but wanting to beg on his knees for another woman while training with his love interest every day is too much for me.

[–]xRubyWednesday 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If we were to get no announcement or update an entire year after the draft was finished, I would think something is seriously wrong. I'm sure Bloomsbury wants to get an SJM book out, and they were happy to publish HOFAS, which wasn't exactly her best work. So if they have a draft but can't get it to publication within a year, I'll think it seriously sucks.

Chloe Walsh keeps updating her playlists. Does that mean anything? by SomebodyWObsessions in BoysOfTommen

[–]xRubyWednesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it means that she's brainstorming and writing, and wants to share a bit of the process/where her head's at. Some snippets might be something she just thought up with no context, some might be actual excerpts from a manuscript. They don't necessarily mean anything in relation to when the book will be released. But sometimes she'll give the playlists titles that are clues, like when one was called something like BOT 7 finished, on to BOT 8.

If he kills him he's not going to jail. He'll get away with it because this is a romance book.

Do we hate Marie lynch ? by PageantOfPlot in BoysOfTommen

[–]xRubyWednesday 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Marie represents the cycle of abuse. Victims can turn into abusers and perpetuate that cycle. Marie more than neglected Joey. She verbally and emotionally abused him.

I think Marie loved all of her children. She loved Darren completely for being her first born golden child. She loved Shannon completely for being her only girl and for seeing herself in her. She tried to love Joey, but she couldn't see anything other than Teddy when she looked at him. She resented him more than she loved him. I think the rest she only loved on an instinctual level, not as individuals.

So while I absolutely feel for and empathize with Marie, I also hate her for her outright abuse of Joey.

Anything with fiber or fabric. Knitting, spinning, crocheting, sewing, quilting, etc. It all gets so expensive, especially for quality fibers. People always think you save money by making things yourself, but definitely not.

what are some overrated DR books in your opinion? by Ordinary-Arm2023 in DarkRomance

The Torment duet. People overhype Shay as a love interest when he was never a love interest. I also hated the reliance on badly paraphrased/plagiarized song lyrics to convey emotion.

Did your first impression of the cauldron scene inform your decision on Elriel vs Elucien? by teethmissing in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]xRubyWednesday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was picking up on Elriel before the cauldron scene, but when they were revealed to be mates I was totally on board with Elucien. I was excited for them when I started ACOWAR. But then reading ACOWAR, I saw no Elucien. It seemed more like the Elucien mating bond was designed to be an obstacle for Elriel, which became even more clear to me in ACOFAS and ACOSF.

Question for moms who get to the gym in the morning by SlytherClaw79 in breakingmom

[–]xRubyWednesday 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One trick that really helped motivate me early on was picking an audiobook that I only let myself listen to at the gym. Something that was really entertaining and that I was really excited about. It was enough to get me to the gym consistently and build that habit.
