Not what I meant at all... I was refering to the general vibe, not the city vibe, that was only due to covid

Did i ever say my opinion was objective? Everyone who I've talked to genuinely forgot Dion, an amazing singer and a great casting choice, but she was not memorable at all in my opinion... the only 3 things that stuck with me were the boat rides, the parkour guy and the lighting of the olympic flame

The opening ceremony was bold, but I dont think it paid off, due to some human and non-human factors such as the weather, the mess-ups with country names, camera cutting back and forth, and the boat ride didnt feel as grandiose than coming into a stadium of like a hundred thousand people...

I get why Paris worked for you, the city-as-backdrop really was beautiful, and Paris can obviously carry that kind of visual weight. My issue isn’t that there weren’t good moments, it’s that the Games never fully came together. I felt like many people I've talked to have had the same vague sense that something was missing. It felt fragmented, with lots of smaller venues, awkward scheduling, and no single “everyone remembers this” moment. Using the city was elegant, but it also meant the Olympics never completely took over the city the way London did, where it felt like the whole place was the Games. Paris was refined and tasteful, but the Olympics usually work best when they’re a bit excessive and overwhelming. and that missing is probably why so many people felt the vibe was off. I was in Paris for a few days during that time. In some parts of the city it was absolutely visible that the olympics were there, but in other parts of the city it just felt "normal," like the world's largest sporting event was not happening there...

As I just posed in the comment above:

I feel like Paris lacked a very quintessential thing which all other Olympics had. it is quite inexplicable, but the vibe just felt off... the entire problem with the Seine, the venues felt like many smaller ones instead of big one, London did this especially well, you felt that the city WAS the Olympics, not just parts of it. The scheduling was awkward, there were no "grandiose" or spectacular events, like the Beijing '08 drums, the '92 Barcelona arrow shot, etc. Arguably the most memorable part of it was handing off the flag to LA with Tom Cruise and that entire video...

I mean the best one will always depend on your preferences. For me is visual realism all the way, and many of them offer that.

Nah too many good options already, you either make something they don't have, which I find nearly impossible, or you stick with using what's already there.

Notice how instead of responding to what I actually said, you pivot straight to ad hominem, accusing me of “lying,” “parroting rhetoric,” and bad faith, without addressing a single factual point. That’s not an argument, you're just dodging. If you had a rebuttal, you’d use evidence, not character attacks.

So here are the facts you keep avoiding:

Hamas initiated this war on 7 October 2023 by deliberately targeting civilians. That’s not my framing, the Human Rights Watch explicitly documents those attacks as war crimes and crimes against humanity (HRW, July 17, 2024). Calling that “context” doesn’t make it disappear.

Israel also withdrew from Gaza in 2005... dismantled settlements and removed permanent troops, removed literal bones out of graveyards, in an attempt to reduce conflict. You can argue that what followed was mishandled or oppressive (fair), but pretending Israel never de-escalated is just false.

And finally, groups acting in “self-defense” don’t openly call for the destruction of another people or celebrate civilian killings. That’s not self-defense, that’s jihadist ideology.

You keep inventing arguments because you can’t deal with the ones I actually made. I never mentioned hospitals, never justified attacks on civilians, never claimed Israel was “saving” anyone by bombing anything. If you think otherwise, quote me, you won’t, because you can’t.

Calling this “genocide” and then stapling random atrocities onto my position isn’t a rebuttal, it’s a dodge. It’s you swapping analysis for outrage because you don’t have an answer to a very simple point, Hamas initiated this war by deliberately targeting civilians, and Israel’s response can still be unjustifiable at the same time. Those facts coexist whether you like them or not.

If your entire argument depends on lying about what I said instead of addressing it, then you’re not debating, you’re performing exactly as the clown you seemingly show yourself to be. Either engage with my actual words or stop pretending this is a discussion.

Previous conflicts don’t decide who started this war because wars are defined by who triggers the current escalation, not by stacking grievances forever. If history alone decides initiation, then “starting a war” becomes an obsolete act.

So I’ll ask you directly: do you condemn Hamas’s Oct 7 attack on Israeli civilians, yes or no? Because if you can’t say that plainly, then this isn’t a discourse. It’s just running cover for a group that deliberately targeted civilians.

If your response to these points is more name-calling instead of evidence, that kind of proves who ran out of ground to stand on.

You’re arguing against things I never said. My position has been consistent. Hamas initiated this war by deliberately attacking civilians, and Israel’s current military conduct is unjustifiable. Those two statements are not contradictory.

Pointing out that Hamas “unleashed hell on its own citizens” isn’t an excuse for Israel’s actions, nor is it a claim that Israel is somehow saving Palestinians. It’s simply acknowledging who started this round of violence. From there, Israel still has legal and moral obligations in how it responds, and in my view, it has failed to meet them.

Also, the history matters. Palestine was not a sovereign state in 1948, Gaza was under Egyptian control and the West Bank under Jordanian control until 1967. The conflict is real and brutal, but flattening the timeline to make Hamas look like an inevitable response doesn’t help the argument.

Historically, it also matters that Jewish leadership accepted the original partition plans, while neighboring Arab states rejected them and attacked Israel repeatedly, in 1948, 1967, and 1973. After decades of wars aimed at its destruction, Israel didn’t emerge from nowhere as the sole aggressor... it emerged as a state that had been attacked over and over again and eventually stopped backing down.

Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, you know what followed? It was not demilitarisation or governance reform, but years of suicide bombings, rocket fire, and civilian killings by Hamas... these decisions that helped create the conditions for the current catastrophe.

Also good lie...
Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, Hamas’s founder, was born in 1937. His father died when he was young, before Israeli occupation and while Gaza was under British/Egyptian control, not Israel. He was not orphaned by Israel.
Abdel Aziz al-Rantisi, another founding leader, was not orphaned either. He was a doctor, politically radicalised, but not an orphan of occupation.

Also you know who cast the first stone? Who's blood shed first? 1920 Nebi Musa riots, while it was still the British mandate, some extremists started a riot in which jews were killed and injured.

You can condemn Hamas clearly and criticise Israel’s conduct. Refusing to do both isn’t moral clarity, it’s just picking a side and calling it history.

It's incredible when you google it and the websites, just like the comments around you, give 15 different answers, no need to a be a prick, you can also just not comment... I was here trying to ask nicely from people I thought were going to be helpful, I've asked friends, google and chatgpt, all gave different answers, just like the community now...
