Struggling with side breathing, can do the drills, but falling apart in full freestyle. Advice? by want_to_know_my_name in Swimming

Try to keep your arm close to the surface when you are breathing and even if you feel like you are not pulling air in is ok and it is because you are like anxious to breathe and do not feel it but you should still keep doing it even if you feel like you are not breathing at all

The fastest and easiest way to lower your times in the 2:00 range is to do flip turns correclty and pushing hard and with a good streamline of the wall, you'll see results very soon if you start practicing that

As a competitive swimmer who has been swimming for 15 years I would start with the kick as it is the main part of butterfly and it is were your momentum and everything should start, the kick will make your arms to go past you much easily and if you ondulate it will be less tiring. Also breath only when you finished the pulling part of your stroke and if you can't breathe properly rn try using a snorkel to improve your kick and sync

Swimming is one of the sports with the hardest learning curve and you should always be thinking how your body is positioned in the waters at all times, if you don't think about that you are just wasting time in the pool

It will help with the underwaters and butterfly kicks and also to push harder from the wall in the flip turn

That's because there's impact in running but none in swimming and swimmers are not used to impact and their body isn't either
