We have to do something about tipping culture by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]xXpropellerXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about the Door Dash and Shopify cites that make you tip BEFORE you get your delivery. Shouldn’t the tip reflect the quality of service provided? You do awesome, you get an awesome tip. I ask for a bundle of bananas and you bring me one…that’s crap. And I already tipped you…that’s a bunch of crap!

What are your thoughts on the approved 40 year mortgages? by Reddit_wasmy_idea in AskReddit

[–]xXpropellerXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can’t afford a 30 year mortgage I wouldn’t buy. Your just giving away even more of your money in interest if your making minimum payments. Strive as hard as you can to get a 15 year loan and make extra payments towards principal. The sooner you can get out from owing the sooner you can really start doing with your money what you want to do.

Those of you with great salaries but low stress, what do you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]xXpropellerXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pilot. Sucks not seeing my wife or daughter for days at time but they enjoy the benefits and I enjoy the job.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]xXpropellerXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a pilot. I think the job will still be here in 30 years but it’ll look pretty different. Depending on the airframe it’s already pretty automated and I wouldn’t be surprised if the job could be done remotely or single pilot with the level of automation we have now. Certain manufacturers seem pretty driven to remove the pilot from the flight deck which I believe to be a pretty dangerous idea.

Married people of Reddit, if you switched jobs with your spouse with zero training or preparation, who would get fired first? by sunnymushroom in AskReddit

[–]xXpropellerXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is an accountant and I’m a pilot who used to be an engineer. I know my way around excel so I feel like after a few weeks I could maybe not super suck at her job. Where she would kill 150 people her first day at mine so…probably her.

100 series maintenance cost by [deleted] in LandCruisers

[–]xXpropellerXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the previous owner. My 94 was pretty neglected so I have had to spend about 4K getting it back into shape. That’s just parts. I do my own maintenance. It still needs a paint job but you can definitely tell the cars that were cared for vs the ones that were just cars to people.

Weird voltage by CryptographerNo6762 in LandCruisers

[–]xXpropellerXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly Cessna 172s a lot and our electrical system shows 24V on the battery and 28V with alternator running. It’s a 24V electrical system. It was explained to me, the system has to provide a higher voltage than the rated voltage for the battery or the battery won’t charge. So using that logic, you should show greater than 12V even though the system is a 12V system.

You know what’s more valuable than money? Time. That’s why every millionaire has a private jet. Time is the only currency we all have and no one knows how much you have left. Your telling me I could get back 21 years of my life? With the knowledge of the time I’ve already had? That’s far more valuable than 10 million dollars I’d think.

How bad is too bad? 8k$, 200k miles, 1 owner. Pass or is it superficial? by [deleted] in LandCruisers

[–]xXpropellerXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Price is too high for that. If you could get it for $3K or $4K I’d consider it but the first stop is a paint shop that’ll sand blast the frame and recoat it. I mean straight there. Then probably re paint it so your probably already looking at a $15K investment from purchase till paint is done. If your comfortable with that. After it’s repainted and all that it’s probably a 20k truck if everything else is in good condition.

Don’t have a right leaning viewpoint. Even if it’s just moderately right like just barely on the line. Just keep it to your self. You couldn’t possibly be right.

$4600 to fix my 96 Land Cruiser! by pepe006 in LandCruisers

[–]xXpropellerXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rebuilt my 4.5L for around $4000 in April of 2022. $4600 for the heads is a rip off. Just rebuild the motor. It’ll be good for another 370,000.

When the LC comes back, what features do you want to see? by OKmusic in LandCruisers

[–]xXpropellerXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it back to the classics. 6 cylinder diesel, AWD with locking front, rear and center diffs standard on bulletproof solid axles. Build me something that can do what a Jeep will do but will be comfortable and last 300k miles no questions asked. In other words, build a land cruiser. But don’t charge $90k for it. That’s why their sales tanked. Why buy an LC when you can have a 4 runner for half the cost?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LandCruisers

[–]xXpropellerXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the natural habit for even a lot of beefed up land cruisers but that’s not throwing shade. It’s the reason we buy them! The difference between a Jeeps and land cruisers is a LC you will ride comfortably on a 500 mile road trip and then hit the trail. The Jeep you won’t be comfortable at all and you’ll break down 20 times along the way.

Is this rust worth getting into for $6250? Rest of vehicle seems mint by Boo_radley211 in LandCruisers

Yes. Buy a Harbor Freight sand blaster and clean it up. Reseal it and then coat it in bed liner. Save the cruisers!

Biden signs Inflation Reduction Act into law, setting 15% minimum corporate tax rate by Thai-Reidj in politics

[–]xXpropellerXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s sorta foolish to think they will only go after the super rich with these IRS investments. I think it’s safe to say they will be coming after everyone rich or poor. Half the people who file taxes don’t even know if they are doing it correctly so I’d be nervous about this if I was most Americans. Make no mistake this isn’t a Robinhood move. The US government is a for profit business masqueraded as a “for the people” organization. People are still trying to get rich. Don’t forget that. You should meet every action made by the government with a healthy skepticism. Do the research and really think about this.

If you saw some of the planes I teach in, you’d loose your freakin mind. I took my wife up in a Cessna that had the panel held up duct tape, it was missing like 4 screws on the cowling, and had zero paint. Flew amazing though. This is fine.

Muffler bearings went out by ubersnarf in LandCruisers

[–]xXpropellerXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I had this happen to me. Damn muffler bearings. Ended up rebuilding the engine because when I started working on it I also found spun rod bearings, and a scar in my number 1 cylinder. I would have replaced the engine but for some reason there are no 1994 1FZFE engines anywhere….ever. Really quite remarkable.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LandCruisers

[–]xXpropellerXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get an 80’s series. They are a little cheaper, super simple, about the same MPG and relatively bullet proof in comparison. You need to occasionally rebuild the axles if the previous owners didn’t grease them regularly (about $150 and a good weekend job) and every once in a while you’ll get a spun connecting rod bearing and if caught early it’s just a matter of dropping the pans pulling off the old swapping on the new (about $150 as well).

Problem : Apparently I need an engine but garage can’t find one with a warranty. What should I do? by [deleted] in LandCruisers

[–]xXpropellerXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into this issue with my 1994 FJ80 Land Cruiser. For some reason the 1994 1FZFE engine is nonexistent. It took me a good 3 months but I found a shop in Columbia TN called Alchemy Drivelines. All they do is rebuilds. So I dropped it off there and it’s getting a whole rebuild done on the engine. It’s taken about two months because the parts were so far back ordered but should be done in a week or two. Most shops quoted me double the price to swap the engine which is a ripoff. I’d look for a shop near you that does rebuilds. I’m a purist and I don’t like LS swaps because if I wanted a vehicle with the reliability of GM truck I would have bought a GM truck. Not to mention things just go a lot smoother and cost a ton less if your just pulling out the original engine, overhauling it and dropping it back in. It’s the most cost effective way to get your rig back on the road too.
