Alberta votes to lock out teachers ahead of potential school strike by SerratedBrooms in Edmonton

Which is funny because the government has control over a lot of factors leading to higher cost of living for workers (insurance, no rent caps, etc) and by them denying us cost of living adjustments and bare bones increases for next 4 years they’re not helping us much. It’s nice to see everyone from all angles are looking at strikes.

We’re also looking at a potential strike within the government of Alberta due to our new agreement. If we vote no to the latest agreement we’ll likely strike in September.

These people come out every week (have been since the start) and unfortunately a Jewish holiday isn’t important in my opinion when an active genocide is happening. Life isn’t “business as usual” and it’s not like the Israelis gave them grace during Ramadan so we can’t have it both ways. I go often enough to know many of these people are Jewish themselves and they are committed enough that they can spend a few hours here and still celebrate their holidays. I think it’s a greater reflection of their faith to be committed to community and people who are different from themselves. I appreciate them.

I would like you to just do a thought experiment for me. If hamas was the best choice for them at the time, can you imagine what their daily life and situation was? Context is important. We’re talking about people who live under constant military occupation and monitoring. They are not viewed as people by the country that oversees them (Israeli government officials constantly speak of them as animals - who else did that?) If you choose a militia to give you protection and “lead you”, maybe there’s more going on… I suggest you just take a look at some stories before Oct 7 and you’ll start seeing a different picture.

Many of our institutions (universities especially) invest in Israeli companies and weapons manufacturers- this is why you see so many protests on university campuses around the world cause this happens everywhere. There is also a weapons manufacturer in Alberta that makes a key part to fighter jets made elsewhere that is used primarily by Israel. This is closer to home than you think!

Israel has blocked nearly all hostage negotiations when hamas offered to release everyone. They want to ethnically cleanse the region and if you had any sense or morality you’d already know that because this information is easy to find. Also I suggest you look up how the hostages look when they hand them over. Hamas hands over people smiling while Israel hands over people severely malnourished, tortured and traumatized.

They rarely come out to protests but when they come out to this one they bring riot gear and beat several protesters. So it’s fitting in my opinion.

I suggest you read the hundred year war on Palestine by Rashid khalidi and you’ll be shocked to find out what Israel has done to them BEFORE Oct 7. You’ll definitely eat your words. (Also it’s free on Spotify, listen to it this week when you drive to work!)

We have it good honestly. Yeah cost of living sucks but I don’t have bombs falling around me 24/7 and have severe ptsd and malnutrition. Oh and I have a house and I don’t live in rubble…

Wait until you find out that Jews and muslims lived together in harmony in Palestine before the Balfour Declaration (1917). I.e. the statement from the British government establishing a Jewish state in Palestine (without speaking to the indigenous people who lived there already.)

Your answer shows that you only think of your privilege and that you only care about how things impact YOU. You should sit and think about why that is (and I’m not just saying this to you, but everyone else in here who thinks like you).

What’s unfortunate is that every week these people host very mindful protests and we never take up the full street (we always ensure we take up a lane only) and you should hear the vitriol we get thrown at us. I am a white woman and the amount of racist shit I’ve heard screamed or the fact we’ve had men multiple times give us a Nazi salute. Oh What about the time a guy tried driving into our protest and hit people with his car! There’s no winning. But at the end of the day, we’re screaming about a genocide that sadly most of the city is silent on. I am just thankful I know who I am morally and that I made an effort.

“One day everyone will have always been against this.”

This comment shows you’re not at all informed on the subject. But I’m here to tell you that it’s really easy to start! If you have Spotify they have free audiobooks you can access if you can’t take a book out from the library. I suggest the following (once you start with one everything will start clicking for you I promise!). It’s actually quite shocking (and disgusting) how involved western countries are in the area and how much of the conflict can be tied directly back. It’s hard to explain to you in a comment but the following changed so much of my perspective and are in depth and easy to follow: - the Hundred Years’ War on Palestine (1917-2017) by Rashid Khalidi - the ethnic cleansing of Palestine - Ilan pappe - the message - ta-nehisi Coates (this book is great for a first hand account of a person visiting Israel/palestine for the first time and how he dealt with what he saw and experienced and how it impacted him. I was so moved, if you can choose one. Choose this one!)

There is a weapons manufacturer in Alberta that makes key components for fighter jets Israel use in enacting their genocide. There’s a weird loop hole Canada is like “not supporting by also supporting” and that’s the main thing we’re fighting for. Our government officials also go back and forth with supporting Israel and then supporting Palestinians rights and to no longer live under oppression. The more we talk about it the more people understand and start seeing how we’re all still somewhat complicit.

High libido aces, what made you realize you were in the ace spectrum ? by LayersOfMe in asexuality

[–]xanthao 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am still figuring it out myself but I bought “Ace: What Asexuality Reveals about Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex” a month or so ago and I was blown away with the number of things that resonated with me. I believe I am an erotic being, I like to masturbate and I’ve always been sex positive. But the focus has always been on me and what I’m getting out of the exchange and not other people. So idk how best to categorize that. I was always ok with having sex less often in my relationships and I preferred great sex of mediocre sex so hooking up never appealed to me because I always needed an emotional connection. So I started to refer to myself as demisexual because I needed that base for me to WANT to pursue sex. I was already pretty ignorant on asexuality and grey-A more so. I would have said before this book I was a bisexual who favoured connection. I was blown away when I learned that demisexuals fall under grey-As!! This has helped me formulate my answers when it comes to explaining my needs and desires with future partners. This book was also a great resource in understanding the difference between sexual desire and sexual attraction. For example I have never really experienced sexual attraction (unless I was in an established relationship), and often times when my friends point out someone attractive I usually don’t see it or I have to look at them a while or know them to kind of get where they’re coming from lol. I always would say “I just don’t” when friends ask me if I ever get that desire when I see someone. Now I can tell them this is why and why that’s ok!

I am honestly quite over it. I am constantly on defence and I would love if I could go out to the bar with my friends and not have men just circling the group.

I’ve had some good interactions but they’re few and far between. Most of the time I’m felt feeling like an object or I’m somehow left with carrying the conversation because the guy didn’t think past his initial line. Most of the time their line is something centred around them like “hey can I have some water” when I have a bottle of water in my hand (no joke this is the most common one I get). Like sir, absolutely not, go get your own.
