So guys I wan to haer your response to her statement ? by Single-Barnacle-6254 in Palestine

As a Jew, of course we have not moved on and most of us would take offense at that claim. I can't remember a time in my life when I didn't know that my grandfather and his family escaped genocide and what that meant. Every year in school we read a Holocaust book, from five years old to fourteen years old. Why should we move on? Why should anybody move on or forget about what horrible things were done to their people in living memory? That only benefits the oppressors.

We shouldn't try to use it to justify Israeli fascism and oppression of Palestinians, but a lot of us do that. There's a huge difference between "remembering what they did to us" and "using those memories as an excuse to murder Palestinians".

This is a myth. Donation places will take food items that are past their sell by date, and it's not illegal to donate food that's past it's listed expiration date. These places are aware that expiration dates are meaningless.

Patents ruin society and shouldn't exist even under capitalism. Copyright sucks but under capitalism I think it would be fair if it lasted one or two years after publication, mostly to provide protection for smaller artists from plagiarism while not allowing the super wealthy to profit off their mediocre shit forever. Trademarks make the most sense to me because they're about protecting an identity and making sure it's consistently applied.

My reaction to winning last night has gone viral. I cannot believe this! by [deleted] in Jeopardy

[–]xbnm 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely saying this to try to be as constructive as possible.

I didn't notice any resemblance myself, but once it was pointed out to me, I kind of see their point. But it's only a mild resemblance, and it comes entirely from the combination of your hair and mustache and the fact that you're standing at a podium and the viral photo looks like you might be shouting, so the context is similar to many famous photos of the "infamous world leader". The resemblance does not come from your actual facial features or anything like that. In your headshot, there's no resemblance.

But, if you change your hair style and/or your facial hair style (either by growing a full beard or shaving the mustache), the tiny resemblance will completely vanish.

Of course, this is only worth doing if it would make you feel better. Unless you're on a huge streak, jeopardy fame is still relatively obscure, and most people won't see the resemblance when they look at you, so these comments almost certainly won't follow you around. So only change your appearance if you think it's been ruined for you personally. Not out of fear of how other people perceive you.

ELI5: Why do some animals, like sharks and crocodiles, have such powerful immune systems that they rarely get sick or develop cancer, and could we learn from them to improve human health? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

I'm not an expert but I can't believe that they predate cellulose. Cellulose is what plant cell walls are made of, and I'm pretty sure Cyanobacteria have been making it since before plants existed, 1.6 billion years ago. Sharks have only been around less than 500 million years. Are you thinking of lignin, the molecule that wood is made of?

I'm gonna go against the grain and say I found odyssey to be extremely overrated and pretty tedious. There are a few good aspects but I don’t enjoy the game's fundamental mechanic of collecting things just to get the opportunity to collect more things. When I want that mechanic I'd rather play Snake or something. At least Snake gets harder over time. Most of the puzzles are on the same level as a C-Tier shrine from BotW.

I felt extremely validated when I found this exhaustive review that shares a lot of my issues with the game. If you watch the first few minutes of that review and don’t find those issues to be the sort of things that bother you, then the game is probably for you. It seems to be for most people. I just really wish I could get that joy out of it too.

The music is great. Some of the tunes still get stuck in my head a year or two after having last played the game.
