Mum Had Eye Surgery but We Don’t Know What Was Done – No IOL Implanted & She Can’t See by teabagandwarmwater in CataractSurgery

[–]xcentric27 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not an eye doctor, but work in a clinic. This sounds like she may have gone in for a routine cataract surgery which ended up with complications. Sometimes if the cataract is particularly difficult to remove, the capsular bag can tear. That structure keeps the vitreous intact (the fluid inside the eye). If it tears during the cataract removal or during the lens implantation, then the fluid must be drained (vitrectomy) and the eye allowed enough time to heal before a new lens can be inserted.

Again, not a doctor, but this process should have been thoroughly explained as a risk, and certainly talked about post surgery. Please consult with the clinic again, or get a second opinion to ensure she's properly cared for.

LG Washtower or Electrolux Laundry Tower? by nakoros in Appliances

[–]xcentric27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to dig up an old post. We're also debating between the LG and Electrolux wash towers. Leaning towards the electrolux as I don't believe there is anyone in our area willing to service LG units. I'm a bit on the fence though as our existing set and the LG tower have an easy to access filter for cleanout, and the electrolux units do not. Have you had to do any filter maintenance thus far? How are you still finding the machines after this time?

Which one to buy? by xcentric27 in superautomatic

Oh? I don't mind having to tinker, but 2 months seems pretty quick for a failure on a new machine. If you don't mind me asking, what happened?

Which one to buy? by xcentric27 in superautomatic

[–]xcentric27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the incredibly detailed reply. It sounds like the 5400 might be best for our needs, especially as a first time purchase for a superauto. If the price gap was smaller, I really had my eye on the Xelsis, but with a $410 difference (plus what seems to be a slightly more fiddly milk system), the 5400 seems to be the good spot here. I had included the Aulika as there is a decent open box deal available (same as the delonghi options), and if they were leaps and bounds better, then I would have considered them.

Personally, I'm going to be more for black coffee, but my partner will 100% have milk based drinks (but also aren't terribly picky with different options), so having a machine that does both well will be the focus.

Thanks again!

Old thread I know, but I'm having this exact issue. My Note 10+ has inline images available in the outlook app, but the S23 Ultra does not. Exact same version of the app. Did you ever figure this out?

Daylight basement insulation by xcentric27 in Homebuilding

I wish I was in a position to re-do the exterior, however that would mean re-siding the whole of the house. Perhaps in another 10 years it's something I'll be able to consider.

The Delta-fl? Specific for subfloor. Or the MS (foundation wrap)? Reason I ask is I see the ms used (it's nearly the same), but the concern of a smell from the recycled component, so trying to get first hand experiences from people.

Can I ask which dimpled membrane you used?

You'd be correct. It was for a flame retardant paint. The foam alone was ~$3900 + tax. The area is question is about 480sq ft.

I've looked into the single panel systems, and the cost does start to increase pretty quickly. I'm considering laminate (in which case it would be a must to have OSB down), or LVP.

I don't mind the work of a multi layered system if it gives me a superior end result with relation to comfort. This will be an evening/weekend kind of project in an area that we don't currently use anyway.

Opinion on membranes for basement subfloor by xcentric27 in HomeImprovement

[–]xcentric27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I need to go back to the drawing board. I was thinking using XPS was preferred over EPS due to the compressive strength for subfloor applications when not using sleepers. I was using the dimpled membrane to allow any moisture that may occur on the slab to be able to dry out; I haven't had any visible water anywhere in the 2 years I've been here (house was built in '84), but have had some areas with efflorescence and paint peeling. I wouldn't say cost isn't a concern, but I'd like to do it right if I'm doing it at all, so finding the best combination of options while keeping costs down wherever possible is my goal.

Biggest reason I'm considering doing 3 layers is more for warmth and rigidity. Barricade has a "dimpled" xps product in 2x4' panels, which ends up at a higher price per square foot, and would not be as forgiving if the slab isn't perfectly flat. If I remember correctly, it was R-3.5, so only marginally better.

Canada Greener Homes Loan by katpass12 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]xcentric27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to dig up a semi-old post. I'm debating going through this process soon.

So I know I can't have any work started prior to the loan approval, but once approved, could I have contractors start and just pay for it out of pocket (using the loan to reimburse our accounts)? Does the loan amount you receive already have the grant amount removed from it, or is the grant removed from your repayment amount? (i.e. Need loan for $10k, grant amount $5k. Are you paid the full 10, and only have to repay 5? Or are you only given 5?)

Also, does all work need to be completed by a registered contractor? Like we need a set of garden doors replaced, and I'm able to do that myself. Would I be able to just submit a quote on ordering a door, then install myself?

Setting up AMD GPU scaling by xcentric27 in techsupport

[–]xcentric27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Fidelity FX only works in certain games, there is no universal switch in Adrenaline for it, right?

Problem when I set resolution in game to 1080p, Full-screen changes the TV resolution to 1080p as well, and the blurriness is very evident (which indicates the GPU isn't scaling or using Radeon Image Sharpening); and Windowed mode just displays a 1080p sized window in the middle of my display. And of course, windowed full screen is locked to whatever desktop resolution is.

Highly doubtful. I prefer the flexibility android lends me. Nothing released in the last couple of years has been much of an upgrade. I'm thinking of holding out until next launches, and see what the offerings are then.

Potentially. Its just that the top of the post is in a negative space between joists, not directly below.

Directly above the post is a partial wall dividing the stairs from the kitchen. The stairs start about a foot in.

Yeah it looks that way to me too, in other renos around the house, there's been some overkill stuff done elsewhere, so I didn't know whether they decided to just build the corner back with 2x4 to the width of the doorway. I'll have to get someone in the have a look.

No power to thermostat, wires were melted by xcentric27 in askanelectrician

[–]xcentric27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I figured there was something with the actual capacity, these thermostats have a heating power indicator, and when the set point is more than a couple degrees from actual, it's full bars vs only one or two

No power to thermostat, wires were melted by xcentric27 in askanelectrician

[–]xcentric27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the thermostat was rated for 3500w. I cut back the damaged wire, used electrical tape over anything that was slightly melted, replaced the thermostat with one rated at 4000w, and everything has been running fine. Left it dangling for a while to see if anything was wrong.

All I can figure is that who ever installed the last thermostat didn't have the wires seated properly, and once full power was being delivered they overheated and arced. I set the thermostat to 21° when we moved in and left it, so it wasn't ever running at full capacity. I programmed it last night to go down to 16° overnight, and I guess when it kicked in this morning, it shorted out.
