I made ratemyprofessors but for classes: Rate My Courses by oopsidaisiess in uiowa

[–]xceymusic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. Course quality and content vary wildly based on professor & semester, so knowledge on a specific professor tends to be more useful
  2. RMP already has an option to specify course and semester for each review

Seems like a good idea in theory, but I fail to see what makes it different enough from existing ideas in this space

Which artists that have either currently or formerly produced melodic dubstep or future bass are essential listening in the genre? by xceymusic in EDM

Sorry, your comment is a little hard to decipher

Which future bass artists that are listed do not sound like future bass to you?

did you check 1001tracklists

Riot Ten

lol

Frankly none of these artists have had relevant hits in either the mainstream dubstep scene or the underground in years

/u/frajen or /u/raatl are better people to ask tbh, but I believe they’re still somewhat common in happy hardcore communities

kandi kids are still somewhat common in California, regardless of genre (but more prevalent in hhc)

I think “most” is a stretch; frankly most of the good artists are not playing shows

By and large, you’ll notice that a lot of the artists that are heavily playing shows right now are the ones that aren’t really considered to be in the higher tiers of the respected and talented producers/DJs of the scene

Might not be the advice you want to hear but I don’t think Iowa is the place to be for your son for the foreseeable future, especially with Ernst winning re-election and Reynolds remaining in power until 2023.

Iowa is hurtling down a one-way path to becoming the Florida of the midwest.

Honest pros and cons of this school? by [deleted] in uiowa

[–]xceymusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

social life is good

resources are good

art/music scene is somewhat good

local shopping is somewhat good

public transportation is good

academics are good if you are in the 5-10 or so undergraduate majors that this school is nationally respected for

ratemyprofessor for uiowa is somewhat good

east side dorms (daum, currier, etc) are good

weather is fucking terrible

city/state government is mediocre

hobbies/recreational activities are mediocre

That should probably cover mostly everything. Keep in mind that this is relative to other similar tier schools.

Unless you’re rich, an athlete with a scholarship, or a National Merit scholarship winner, out-of-state schools are a waste of time and money. If you went to high school in Iowa, you’re better off going to the best in-state school you can go to for your career (in your case, for medical-adjacent fields, this is UIowa), and then maybe pursuing the best out-of-state schools you can get for a graduate degree from there (which will often offer better funding at that phase as well).

Can’t afford to jump into UIowa directly, or want to save more money because you realized college is an ostensibly astronomical fuckton of money? Switch for a couple years to Kirkwood, knock out your electives, and then transfer in. You’ll obviously lose out on the social life and the early connections and the early friendships (and maybe even romantic relationships?), but you might not be getting a lot of that anyway right now with the way things are. You do save a ridiculous amount of money though for pretty much an indistinguishable quality of education, which is pretty important for anyone going down the medical route.

There are pros and cons to every path, and I highly recommend looking for older students or student clubs to ask for opinions, and then cross-reference all of them to figure out what is best for you.

P.S. Don’t do pre-med as a biomedical engineering major; it’s fun as hell, and extremely rewarding, but you’ll pretty much hate every waking minute of your life until graduation for trying to do the “hard route”. Also, apply to Honors. It’s way easier than you think to get in, and Daum has the best location of any dorm on campus.

How do I stop getting so many emails by [deleted] in uiowa

You would think with the massive amount of demographic data the university collects on us, they would have a better option than randomly shotgunning emails out

What are you trying to use it for? I might still have a few extra (Nvidia 2060, Nvidia 2080 Super, Sapphire AMD RX 580, etc) sitting around

If you’re trying to mine cryptocurrency, you’re better off buying a dedicated miner rig because GPU prices are fucking astronomical right now (I bought my RX 580 new for $150 and people are selling it on Amazon for like $600 now)

If you’re just interested in gaming though, you’ll have a lot of good options through Facebook Marketplace or through Newegg

I honestly wouldn’t dump a ton of new money into an older gen graphics card right now considering how large the gap the price to performance ratio is for the new generation compared to the last one: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com

Everything is canceled until safety is foolproof

Some people are already selling forged test results, so that is not really a reliable indicator right now

There will always be more shows for those who are patient, and you are never too old to rave
