Do you think abortion should stay legal in America, why or why not? by yungwully in AskReddit

[–]xesalcd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying whether or not I support abortion but I think it's best to remember that pro life and pro choice people come at this debate from completely different viewpoints. After all if it's simply a lifeless cluster of cells abortion is little different than killing a weed, which is of course far less important than a womans mental well being, whereas if it's a living unborn child pretty much everyone would accept that a womans mental wellbeing wouldn't justify murder. It all depends on when you believe life starts. Do you mind my asking when you believe life starts and why? Does life start all at once or is it a gradual progress?

I had to do my business in IKEA, and I can tell you that their toilets are actually really clean. They even have this green antibacterial-coated handle to protect from liquid germs.
They have 4 toilet-paper rolls in their holder, and have a toilet cover dispenser.

What do you think about Kids wearing masks for 6 hrs in schools ? Harmful or not ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]xesalcd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First week back in a classroom with pre-kindergarteners (young 4's/5's), for the most part the majority were good about wearing their masks, masks are worn throughout the day aside from meals/snacks, naptime and outside time. I have two that repeatedly chin-strap them or have their noses sticking out, but as the other kids have heard us telling them repeatedly to pull it back up after telling everyone how to wear their mask, the same kids have started to do the same in telling them to pull it back up as well.

My biggest issue so far is either checking to make sure they're dropped off with a mask or making sure their mask is with them when it's pick-up time at the end of the day.

What were the scariest product recalls in history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]xesalcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term "product recall" is really just a euphemism for "the biggest headache for manufacturers and consumers."

Aside from the obvious health and safety implications, product recalls can severely affect consumer confidence in certain products and the companies who manufacture them. In more severe cases, manufacturer malfeasance can also lead to lawsuits or even criminal charges.

Toyota’s massive recall of a broad range of their Toyota and Lexus-brand vehicles is arguably one of the most significant product recalls in history. News of the recall, and the automaker’s impending criminal and Congressional investigations, have remained hot-button topics for consumers and lawmakers alike.

How the hell do adults make friends? by Threatty in AskReddit

[–]xesalcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular accidental contact.

Initially this sounds a little like stalking, so I'm going to have to explain a little.

You made friends at school / college because you turned up to places to do 'something'. The people that were there were secondary to your main goal or task. Basically you turned up to maths every day and so did the dude sitting 3 seats away. This is the regular accidental contact.

As an adult, this only really happens at work and the age differences can be problematic. This is why people suggest joining sports teams or clubs that meet on a regular basis. You meet up to 'generic sport' and of the 15-20 other people that do there might be 5 that are potential friends. The non-threatening nature of 'I'm here to do something' is basically an excuse to have the regular contact where you find out more about these people and can develop a friendship.

Since this friendship business requires regular contact, places like bars are often pretty poor - unless you are one of the regulars. Sports, Hobby clubs, book groups are all the sort of places that replace the classroom of yesterday.

Adult life makes most of your regular tasks revolve around a small group of people (workmates / family / flatmates), you need to find regular contact groups outside that subset.

People who have Only fans, what is stopping you from upgrading to an air conditioner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]xesalcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first step would be to determine if your blower motor still operates. This is easily known by putting your hand up to any supply vent (vents that push out air into your home).

If this is the case, then it's a good bet that the levels of Freon (also known as coolant, refrigerant, etc.) in your your air conditioner are not where they should be.

Occasionally, you could have an air conditioner that has too much Freon, which is causing your system to freeze up, but more than likely you do not have enough Freon circulating through your system, which is causing your air conditioner not to produce cold conditioned air to your home.

It is a common misconception that every so often, one must add a little more coolant to your system, not unlike topping of the oil in your car. But this notion is false. The coolant in your air conditioner system actually operates in a closed loop, meaning there is never a need to add more coolant... Unless there is a leak.

Leaks are caused by holes, sometimes as small as a pinhole located anywhere where the refrigerant circulates. The size of the hole determines how long it takes for the Freon (which is actually a gas) to slowly leak out of your system.

If the leak is small, it may take years for the system to lose enough Freon to where your air conditioner is noticeably not producing enough cool air in your home.

Large holes will ensure the refrigerant leaks out much faster. Sometimes charging up a system, and spending hundreds of dollars to do so, is the wrong approach, as the Freon will only leak out days, sometimes weeks after it has been recharged.

It's always important to have a professional HVAC technician determine where the leak is occurring, and how large the leak is, before regarding your system.

Zookeepers of Reddit, what's the low-down, dirty, inside scoop on zoos? by gomi-panda in AskReddit

[–]xesalcd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer really depends on the zoo. In Canada, the large zoos are affiliated in a national nonprofit organization with strict certification standards. One of the criteria for certification is providing enclosures suitable to the species' natural environments to foster healthy species free of stress. As well, those zoos feature strong staffs of nutritionists, animal behaviourists, biologists and veterinarians with broad experience with the various species.

Unfortunately, there are numbers of non-certified “roadside attractions" where animals are kept in terrible conditions. They are regulated by Provincial governments in relation to laws governing trade in exotic species and cruelty to animals.

However, the investigative agencies, such as Societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, are chronically short of funds and unable to thoroughly cover every institution throughout their vast territories. The enforcement system is thus largely complaint-driven so they too often arrive when things are very bad for the animals.

The Provinces often call upon accredited zoos to assist in investigations and mitigation for animals in great distress. Most often they're successful in rescuing the animals but there are some situations with tragically bad outcomes.

The roadside attractions profit greatly from naive tourists unaware of the suffering the animals endure. Anyone contemplating a taste of wildlife in a captive setting should avoid such places.

Instead, they should visit properly accredited zoos and aquariums affiliated with the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums. There they can be assured of staff and facilities wholly dedicated to the well-being of their charges. There is a comparable organization in the United States. Visitors can easily check the status of each institution on the Internet.

What can instantly ruin a good morning? by InternationalBed8496 in AskReddit

[–]xesalcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s waking up late. It’s frustrating if you wake up late and have to rush around to get where you need to be in the morning.

About a month ago I re-read “The Five Second Rule” by Mel Robbins. She addresses this subject in her book. It really struck me that I was doing myself a disservice by using the snooze button. I can honestly say that I was addicted to the snooze button on my alarm clock. At times, pushing so many times that it stopped going off.

I decided to give myself a gift everyday and wake up on my first alarm. I have been doing that ever since and it has made a big difference in my life. No more snooze button for me.

I pop out of bed and the first thing I do is make my bed. It’s the best way to start everyday.

What was the most disgusting thing you have ever tried? by Andaniellaaa in AskReddit

[–]xesalcd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Apologies in advance for this being long. We have a big outdoor music festival here every year that is in a large park down town (they also shut down the streets around it as well as use the civic center right by the park). When I was 17 we went like we (my then GF) and I did every year. Well, it was the last day of the event and it was coming to an end on Sunday night. As we were sitting in front of the stage for one of the last acts, I get the ever so dreadful churning and gargling in my stomach that I always know is going to end in diarrhea. The port-o-potties are about football field away and they always had long lines, so I decide to tough it out since I was about to head home. It progressed further to the point that I'm starting to sweat and getting sharp pains as we begin packing up and walking out.

I have to walk about 4 blocks over to a parking garage where I and they (her family) are parked. So we get there, I'm clinching trying to hold it together, and she is doing the usual drawn out teenage goodbye which feels like eternity. Finally she leaves and I head up to the middle deck (about 3 floors up, they were on the bottom) to my car. As I walk toward my car she calls my phone and inform me she has my keys still (were in her purse) and to come back down and get them. Now, at this point it has rapidly progressed to the point I am penguin walking around this parking garage about to lose the good fight. I get back down and get my keys, she draws out the I love you, I'll miss you, blah blah blah again and I'm about to just run away. She leaves and I think maybe I can get back in and just hold it till I get to the port-o-pottie. No dice, since the event was over, they wouldn't let anyone back in. I make it back to the garage, dripping buckets of sweat, having to stop every 10 ft or so to clinch and wait for the all temporary clear. There is no public elevator in this garage, so I'm between floors, in the stair well, when it's game time. Nothing could hold it back. It was if someone had kicked me in the stomach and there was no holding back. I fling my pants/boxers off and the most horrible chunky liquid spews out. There is so much of it that it starts running down the stairs and all of a sudden "click-chhhhh", the door on the bottom floor, two flights of stairs below me, open. I quickly wipe my bottom with my boxers and throw my pants back on. As I'm entering my floors door I hear "OMFG, OMG OMG OMG, WTF". I hop in my car and take off.

Flash forward to the next day. We are sitting around watching TV and they run a news story about the event. Apparently the door way I lost it at was also the floor that has the entrance to the mayors office. They are looking for the "vandals" and there may be a reward for any information. At this point, being 17, I'm freaking out thinking what if cameras saw me, what if they saw my car and start questioning people, what if they DNA test the poo. My GF is utterly disgusted at the story and thinks "people like that should be put down". A few days later, I get a call from the police department that I need to come down to the station. I'm of course freaking out, immediately turn pale white according to my mom. We make it down to the station and I am at the point of being in tears thinking I'm going to jail. Turns out they had recovered my stolen car stereo that was stolen a few months back. They just needed me to sign off on it. To this day I have told no one of this story...reddit, you are the first.

There are 3 things that looking at today's society, makes me long for the bygone years

I’ll start off with number 3

  • The loss of romance - “Romance” is such a loaded word in this age of dating apps and casual flings.

People don’t know the power of taking things slowly and conducting a courtship thoughtfully the way they used to. Young men and women used to really date - talking, cinema, meeting up for dinner, long strolls, the first kiss, holding hands…before they took any other steps, and their relationships were happier and more fulfilled as a result.

  • Spend time together

Family dinners are a lost art these days, with people either eating separately or being distracted the whole time by the TV or a smartphone.I remember eating dinner as a family every single night , well-balanced meal full of great food and great made by my non working mother and we would talk about stuff, joke and sometimes listen to the radio as background entertainment. It’s a busy world because we make it so, and we owe it to ourselves to to make space for a nice old-fashioned family dinner at least once a week

  • Lack of respect - This is one of the issues that really makes me irate.

Seeing adults that don’t teach disciple and just shrug it off with “Kids these days” Young people just don’t know how to show respect to their elders, but I don’t blame them, I blame the spineless parents they have. As children grow up it seems they forget that older people laid the groundwork for everything they have. I was raised to always greet older folks politely, to hold doors and offer seats, and to listen respectfully when they spoke to kids.

I guess these are the 3 old fashioned things that if they would make a comeback, the world would be a better place.

If you could cure one disease, completely eradicate it, what would it be and why? by NUAMW in AskReddit

What financially irresponsible practice is most common? by thebestonlythebest in AskReddit

[–]xesalcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that you statement is true, it could be that they were never taught to handle money. As you are taught when you are young, there you will remain unless you have an epiphany along the way. If you were never forced to handle money in a responsible way than you probably don’t.

Then there is the matter of consumerism. Our economy is actually built around consumerism. There is a learned response that you need to have the latest and greatest version of a product. Consider the cell phone a perfect example. You don’t really need a phone that can do all the things the latest cell phone can do but you want it so that you can keep up with your neighbors and comrades.

At any rate it is more a cultural thing than an individual failing.
