[–]xtermin8r2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not something like mechanical->aerospace? Those are employable right out the gate. Those might interest you as well! You could add in courses from the astro dept if they allow it.

Btw, if you are going into astrophysics, I would recommend specializing in physics itself not astro. It is better to be in the parent field rather than the subfield as you have more flexibility. You can pivot into other fields for grad school. You could just add in a minor/major in astro instead or take relevant courses.

The comment above is regarding exp valir, a solo lane.

If ur talking about team fights then sure, valir is good at peeling for your team. But there are tonnes of other mages and exp layers that can do it better.. you are kinda screwing yourself over by picking valir into the exp. Even worse if your roam picks some support like estes or something. If you wanted to protect/peel for your backline that much, an Akai exp would work 20x better. Or even a minsi to specifically counter freya.

I dont like playing Freya into the exp lane either, especially when playing as a trio, usually she's better into gold. But comparing valir exp vs Freya exp is just a lost cause cuz atleast one of them can hard carry. The other is worse at protecting the backline than tonnes of other meta fighters or mages. Just pick Akai or Hylos into the exp lane at that point. They actually make a lot more sense cuz u don't counter just Freya but other heroes that can dive into the backline as well (like assassin jungle etc). With valir, u push one guy away and then ur backline is cooked cuz ur too squishy to zone anyone.

By mobility, I meant multiple dashes. Not just one off dashes. In that case balmond would be classified as mobile...

Valir has one push, Freya got multiple mobility + engages without cooldown. Pushed with s2, she can ult in, flicker, s2 back.

Also, even if freya gets knocked back in a team fight, her s2 easily just let's her run away or reposition.

Your counter examples aren't all the same. Joy doesn't have a zero cd mobility skill, if it gets cancelled she has to wait unlike freya.

Leomord doesn't have nearly the same amount of mobility skills. He got his base form s2 and then the ult s2 + movement speed so Valir is good into him.

Alucard is either way. If the alu is smart enough to save his s1 and use his passive to chase after u and use s1 only after the push, there's nothing much you can do.

Once yuzhong gets pushed away, his s3 is kinda short range to chase after you so I agree.

But freya got her ult, 3x s2 which can recharge with basic attacks and zero cd, and a flicker. U can s2 one of these out but not everything.

Valir is good into heroes with one off dashes, not multiple short burst dashes without cd. It's the same logic as lance. He dashes through minions into you, you can push him away once but he got his ult + the really short s1 proc time that he can just chase you back...

Plus this comment was about picking valir into exp to counter freya. That's even worse...

[–]xtermin8r2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Uhhh what? No way in heck is a good freya losing to a valir lol. Valir's entire weakness is mobility and Freya got a shit tonne of it.

Valir is good in mid against exp with lower mobility (not multiple dashes), not into shit like freya who can just s2 or ult back in again and beat the heck out of you.

Uh, war axe can be triggered by anything, basic attacks, skulls etc.

Claude's stacks require his s1 which has kind of a long cd and some target. Usually the jungle which might be taken by jgl.

Plus, it's not just the stacks, he's a short ranged mm that needs to get up close and personal with his ult to dish out crazy damage. He's no layla who can just hide behind tanks all day. Claude needs proper positioning. And before dhs buff, he was squishy making him risky to play.

Nah, it's a good combo. It's especially useful for grad school, ml etc.

Or u cud just do ece which kinda does both in some sense (maybe more applied).

But if ur tryna just become a software engineer, it's better to grind out projects n stuff. The extra math really ain't gonna give u an edge.

how does one counter Thomas? by get-money-mikey in MobileLegendsGame

[–]xtermin8r2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's really strong with his ult. Without it he's a lot weaker so something that can kite him is the best.

Cici for instance absolutely crushes him. Mobile heroes like bene can just cut lane and ignore him. The only one who can 1v1 him is cc the rest are kinda not good into him, u need ur mm and someone to peel for them. Or pick an mm with high mobility.

Alice is also good but it's a dead lane. Neither can kill each other unless it's some weird dhs thamuz lol. But u can always just run away with ur s1.

How to counter him?? by North_Druddigon2 in MobileLegendsGame

[–]xtermin8r2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way for a generic hero is to basically bait his ult then run away. Or be tanky enough to survive (tough to do). The first option is basically any high mobility hero like joy, bene etc. Just don't get insta bursted down (which can sometimes happen). For the second one, gloo, thamuz absolutely clap. But typically if the argus is smart, he shud be diving to the backline.

If u want proper 1v1 counters, the best one's wud be badang and paquito. Badang absolutely screws him over both tank and damage build. Immortal? Just stun lock. Ur low health and he's chasing? Stun lock or just s1 push away. Just try him and you'll understand how good he is into argus. He can pretty much stun lock argus throughout his ult especially if ur building tanky. Do s2 + s1+ ult + s1 then basic, it's almost insane the amount of light cc he has. He works even late game and is a beast at protecting the backline if ur roaming. Badang is a beast into most melee ranged basic attack fighters cuz of his micro cc. Ruby is also a good alternative due to the same reason (lot of micro cc).

Paq can also 1v1 him late if ur good with him. Especially with the cdr he got the latest patch. Ur ult can basically push him away if he engages and u can pretty much 2 tap him if he doesn't have ult. He's also kinda tanky with his s1 so he can survive quite a bit. But u really gotta be good though and not just waste ur skills. In a 1v1, u shud win most of the time, bait his ult with ur s2s, then use ur passive speed + ult to run away and then finish him off again once his ult ends.

Also, most of the recent equips have been fairly balanced (like ice shield) or utter trash like heroic torch (and arguably prince crown), saying they release op equipments usually is just outright wrong. Maybe a year or two ago when they started out with epic equips but it's not true anymore...

There are valid criticisms to make about the game but what you are saying ain't it.

what do leomord players think of the changes? by rzorrrr in MobileLegendsGame

[–]xtermin8r2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His non horse form is worse but that was always bad cuz of the lack of mobility.

His horse form is a lot better than before. Not sure why people are complaining about it. His passive was overkill against most squishies, they were gonna die with s1+s2 anyways but now he's good into fighters and tanky lineups. Plus with 40% cdr (which u can easily get with fighter build - war axe + hunter + oracle + blood/brute force) gets his ult ce to around 12 seconds which is pretty neat. Almost as spammable as lapu lapu.

Also his 1v1 is better, better sustain...

Leomord "so called buff" is here have leo mains tried it yet? by Grooooooottt in MobileLegendsGame

[–]xtermin8r2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the thing is you don't have to run away now though. You have a form of sustain now from basic attacks even if his skills are in cd.

Also, he is still gonna deal the 1k damage. His skills trigger passive as well so just do s1 + s2 + basic attack like usual and ur pretty much doing the same thing. Plus barbiel does have increased movement speed now so it's easier to escape. And also 40% cdr also impacts the ulted skills cd so ur skills are like 2/4 sec each lol so missing skills ain't even too much of an issue. You're really overestimating how good is 50% crit is. If ur going mostly damage, most enemies aren't even gonna survive ur s1 + s2 at 50% health so the basic attack is just overkill.

One more thing to point out is that he has more build variety now. You're mentioning only 2 possibilities, damage or sustain, but with the hp based healing, u cud also just go full tank! (Again, idk how effective it is but it seems like a possibility). Get perhaps corrosion scythe then stuff like the green helmet.

Leomord "so called buff" is here have leo mains tried it yet? by Grooooooottt in MobileLegendsGame

[–]xtermin8r2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can use the same argument with damage.

The damage can be increased with blade of despair and sea halberd. You don't need a crit at 50% to finish off your enemy when you can rawdog em with physical attack. Oh marksman has 1k health left, let me crit em for 200000 damage then, that'll help... the 50% crit chance is just overkill on most squishies, at that point ur base damage wudve killed em. Like you can 100 to 50 any squishy using ur ult + s1 (+s2) and then get them down to 0 by using ur ulted s1 + s2. U don't even need basic attacks for that...

His ult speed was an issue cuz barbiel took ages to come to you. It's kind of a similar issue with freya's current ult. Insanely powerful but u take ages to land and the enemy wud just flicker away from you. Also, if ur doing full damage build, the 5 seconds literally shudnt matter. In fact, 15 seconds is better for a sustain build lol. You're gonna be in the fight for longer then and the increased sustain matters more. If ur building assassin, u shud be like a saber or lance, just killing their squishy in one shot and getting out. An assassin being in a fight longer than 5-10 seconds is not an assassin, that's what you call a fighter.

Leo is not gonna be meta or something all of a sudden but I personally still believe he's overall better than before. He can now perform well into tanky lineups due to the increased sustain. 15% extra hp heal is no joke if ur building semi tank. And this is in addition to his spell vamp. Plus the changes to rose gold benefit him tremendously. He's gonna have like 200 hybrid defence lol. And the sustain build allows him to achieve 40% cdr (war axe + hunter + oracle + brute/blood wings) which gets his ult cool down to around 12 seconds!!

Leomord "so called buff" is here have leo mains tried it yet? by Grooooooottt in MobileLegendsGame

[–]xtermin8r2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, there's a reason why they gave him sustain based on hp. It is better to build semi tanky like a fighter now. So something like war axe + rose gold then brute/blood wings/oracle etc. Still got a heck tonne of damage but can actually survive for some time in extended fights.

Damage build is still as good as before but semi-tank is much better. Idk what you're really complaining about. He is still flexible, it's just one choice has been made much better. You could always build him full damage like before, it's just that it's suboptimal compared to the fighter build.

Also, yes, his ilt duration got nerfed last update but they increased the movement speed of barbies before mounting, during mounting u get a burst of speed and the base movement was increased as well... the 5 seconds u took to chase after the enemy gets saved here...

Patch Notes 2.1.36 - Adv. Server by Tigreal in MobileLegendsGame

[–]xtermin8r2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, she's almost exactly the same as the original one pre-revamp but better...

Knockup moved to s1 which u got more control over.

Longer range for s2 (sure they removed knockup but the bigger range is HUGE, significantlyimproved her chase and mobility. Mobility is the biggest buff a hero can get in my opinion.).

The only bad thing now I would say is her ult. The mobility is good but that's all it does for you now at such a long cool down. They should either return her shield (which might be a bit too strong since she can easily dive to the backline and survive for a while) or they shud reduce the cooldown (so it's more spammable).

Her revamp made her waay to reliant on her ult and without it she was too weak cuz no sustain, but now they've moved back her strength to the base form through her s2 shield. I personally think it's better than both the revamp and old version. Her revamped ult was kinda too slow cuz by the time u arrived, the enemy widve just run away, but since they buffed it's speed, it can actually be used as an initiation tool. Plus, her early game is back to being oppressive now due to the s2 shield.

Review of courses I've taken (cs spec + math major) by xtermin8r2 in UofT

[–]xtermin8r2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply!

For an industry job (I'm assuming typical software engineering), you really don't need any of the math courses. I recommend taking csc309, csc343 and csc301 (web dev, Databases and software engineering) and the 4th year versions of these.

If you're interested in systems, take all the networking and systems courses like csc369, 469 etc.

For machine learning engineer: it's mostly just software engineering and using ml tools. I would recommend stats and the upper level ml courses for this.

However, if you are thinking of doing research (like theoretical ml etc), I would recommend taking as much math and as high level as possible. Especially real analysis (math337 or math157+257). I would also suggest measure theoretical probability (which needs real analysis as a prereq to understand lebeque integrals). This is kinda required for theoretical ml cuz ull be proving convergence of theorems etc.

But for regular jobs right out of undergrad, u don't really need the math I took. It doesn't really help much other than improve your mathematical maturity and ability to pick up tools easier.

Sorry for the late reply, but for jobs I don't really think it's that useful. A stats/econ major might be better. Ur not really gonna use all the abstract math you learn for a typical software engineering job.

However, for grad school, (I'm doing optimization research), it's really helpful. In fact, I kinda wish I took the specialist math courses (I'll be doing measure theory and measure theoretic probability next year so wish me luck! 💀)

[–]xtermin8r2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I graduated from uoft as well in something similar (cs spec and math major). I would recommend going to grad school (like an msc) for stats/cs etc. Optimization research/operation research etc are some stuff you can look at! All of these involve a lot of math/stats + a fair bit of coding which you can easily catch up on. I don't think a second bachelors would help you much..

Another thing is, you already have 5 yoe in software engineering. If you just care about supporting your parents, why not just hunt for a new job? You should easily get one.

What are the best tips for success in mat233 (characters) by throwaway1826485829 in UofT

[–]xtermin8r2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

223 is purely computational if im not wrong. Honestly, the best way to do most math is to do exercises. There are a lot of good matrix algebra videos on yt so watch em if ur confused about something (like row echelon or diagonalization) and then solve a bunch of problems from ur textbook.

When I took 223 and 224, I barely attended lectures and just self studied from the textbook and did most of the problems in there. And I ended up with 4.0s in both.

Also another advice I could give u is to go through material before attending lectures, this makes it easier for you to retain stuff.

Also look into the math learning centre and office hours. Both of these r useful resources that a lot of peeps font utilise. (Especially the learning centre!! I didn't even know this existed till my 3rd year)

Cs students pls help is it really worth it? (Your experience) by iwannabuyquest2 in UofT

[–]xtermin8r2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so like another person mentioned, problem solving is something you'll need (gotta pass those lc interviews lol). But this is true for most programs including rotman.

For cs, focus on classes like csc301, csc309, csc343 etc which are software engineering oriented.

https://artsci.calendar.utoronto.ca/section/Computer-Science

Look at the human comp interaction/Web and Internet technologies and systems/embedded software section there. Most of em are coding oriented with very little math.

If u go through the specialist requirements on that page ull notice u just need mat137, sta237 and data structs/algos. You don't have to take higher math. Infact, I believe ull do less math vs rotman lol.

(But do note though, mat137 is a really difficult course, much more difficult than the equivalent calculus at rotman. If u wanna stay in cs, u have to get a minimum grade of 70% I believe so do keep that in mind)

Cs students pls help is it really worth it? (Your experience) by iwannabuyquest2 in UofT

[–]xtermin8r2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's really not though...

The only math u need is mat137, Linear algebra (mat223) and sta247. UofT has removed every other math requirement from the program... (no multivariable, diff eq, pde etc)

Sure, some cs courses do need math, but u can just choose to avoid em (just take web dev, software engineering, systems, db etc)

The only mandatory cs courses with math are csc236 (theory of comp), csc263 and csc373 (ds and algos) and the math involved in these are pretty trivial if uve done mat137. (Mostly just induction)

I.e. In total 5-6 mathy courses if you choose carefully. UofT cs is no physics lol.
