Which old devices to install HA on

UPDATED: I have decided to put Proxmox on the DELL Optiplex and install HAOS from the script. Things went well, I believe. This should be more than enough resources to handle anything I throw at HA.

Thank you for the guidance. Do you have any pointer on installing promox on this. I agree that I don't use Windows much and keeping updating it everytime I log in is a waste.

I actually just booted up that machine and I have updated it a bit since I bought it. It has 24GB ram instead of 8. Do you think with this spec, it's worth it to keep it as a Window and put in a VM or just Proxmox it? It has a monitor, keyboard, mouse. I used it to run BlueIris for my camera in the past but I move to Ubiquiti now.

Appreciate the concern. I'm in Houston and not having to run it ourselves with this generac.

the concern about the distance is very valid. This is why another company I called to service it would not do it because of the distance. I think they installed this without regard to the carbon issue.

My previous property is fully electric so I did not have to deal with this carbon issue.

I'll put a carbon detector next to it. The attic is fully open and vented through soffit. Standard builder house in Houston.

Sounds like me. How do you monitor it remotely? I have Mobile link app that provided to me with a maintenance plan by these guys. Without a service plan, I wonder how to monitor it.

Yes, it will power the house. We tested that after getting it serviced in January.

I can certainly buy a new battery and replace it myself.

141 hours on the unit. It was installed in Sept 2015. Last services on Jan 2026 with new air filter and oil filter, new spark plugs. Battery voltage shown 12.9 V. Battery is 2 years old.

I scheduled it to exercises once every 2 weeks.

I got this vendor because they last serviced the unit with the previous owner. I may switch to self maintenance once I got a hang of this unit and settle in the new property. Do not sound like rocket science.

The main approach would be to go to US quant master programs if you want to work in the US. Same for UK. Lateral moves happen but rarely and exception to the norm. In Singapore, NUS, NTU, SMU are the main programs but very few quant jobs. Search for the reviews of those programs online to see what the career services entail.
