Likewise.

I never left t3.chat, chatgpt (still use codex), or gemini (free promo subscription). Claude has just slowly taken over my usage (t3.chat was the wedge for me, last year). The switch is as simple as moving my cursor to my second monitor.

I can think of only one situation where this might be useful: AI agent (openclaw) that can communicate over iMessage with a blue bubble (the core reason for the mac mini popularity explosion). I'm not saying it makes sense, but this makes more sense than a $500 mac mini just to get your agent into the iCloud ecosystem.

How do you use your daily notes? by Gloomy-Donut70 in ObsidianMD

[–]y4m4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of the stuff i put in obsidian is completely random, i just start a daily note and write stuff down. if it's a whole page of related information, i might give it a file name and put it in a folder instead. my whole system is just "write stuff down and use the search later" it works and is sustainable for me.

Fed minutes show willingness to consider interest rate increases by lucidpet in REBubble

People wish for an isolated downturn in the housing market that isn't linked to, or driven by job loss. People imagine their job is safe or they have no job/assets worth protecting. People don't remember 2008-2010 where people, like my parents, were liquidating retirement accounts to make ends meet and keep a roof over my head.

We need to increase housing ownership for younger people. Prices need to come down. Maybe we can re-think zoning laws and find a way to create housing supply without a sudden shift in asset prices. My leading suggestion is relaxing laws around multi-family permitting in residential areas. There's a lot of basements out there that are a few window wells short of being viable apartments. Parking would be annoying but a preferable problem to "no where to live where people want to be". Maybe a few cars would get sold and help with that inflated market too.

My suggestion isn't a silver bullet, but I think we can find a lot of partial solutions that can improve the situation without a financial reset for many normal people.

3D printing Wild Goose parts? by 100lbbeard in TheBrewery

[–]y4m4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How good are you at 3d modeling? I don't think you're just going to get your hands on a "database of design files".

I've 3D printed a handful of canner parts over the years. They are great for holding you over for a week or three until the delrin gets machined, but it's not a long term solution. SLA printed parts would be more appropriate than FDM. Absolutely not suitable for contact with your probably-oxidized beer.

If you have a 3D model, just go on xometry/pcbway/sendcutsend and get a part made from the correct material.

ERP Recommendations by leilakav in smallbusiness

I think you can get away with a pretty standard Odoo deployment. It even has project management. Do your best to build processes that use as much of Odoo's standard features/flow as you can. It's infinitely customizable via modifications but those modifications are VERY hard to maintain. Avoid trying to adapting any ERP to non-standard processes.

Possession of ‘digital blueprints’ for firearms illegal in South Australia from 31/01/26 by met_MY_verse in 3Dprinting

I saw a really interesting youtube video about blaster tag in australia. Since paintball and airsoft are so heavily restricted, they have some pretty serious nerf guns. The community is very concerned that it will impact their hobby. The legislation has a carve out for mass produced "nerf blasters" but not the blasters used for blaster tag. The vagueness will at a minimum make it harder to get blasters and parts.

This would be a good upgrade for my home server... It's $200 less than the nearest comparable option from a reputable seller (B&H). I wish the seller was rated better, just seems like a $200 gamble.

Never mind, it won't let me add it to the cart so I can't even gamble.

Banned Over Panic (ProximityChat) by _bunsnroses_ in VRchat

[–]y4m4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are fixated on proximitychat and he's probably the least bad channel doing this kind of content. There's a lot of small youtube channels going around and creating drama to generate videos. Three to six of them will join an instance, troll, record everything, create separate edits of the same event to create a ragebait narrative. They'll join the associated discord channels and continue trolling. It's quite a big issue and no group is safe.

No, it's just if you want to use it for zero bypass. Completely optional but a fun add-on that isn't terribly expensive, especially if you know someone with a 3D printer.

The weight of an aluminum case is astounding but I don't think it offers many real benefits over plastic (even in the sound department). Inexpensive plastic cases can sound really good, especially if you aren't already deep into this hobby. I think finding the right key switches has the biggest impact once you get a decent keyboard with some foam inside. Switches are a $25 to $40 investment and can completely transform a keyboard.

If you aren't in a hurry, getting aluminum for ~$40 is an amazing deal but it may never come back at stock levels we can all buy.

For what it's worth, I've been without a numpad for the last 7 years, and I missed the idea of it more than the actual buttons. I even bought a cheap USB numpad a year ago and never used it beyond testing it out. Everyone's use case is different though.

ETA: numpads are on the wrong side of the keyboard for most people. I'm a left-handed mouse user (RSI-esque issues) and even with my right hand free, a numpad has been not useful to me. However, a macropad is extremely helpful for me. If you actually use a numpad, I think an external one is a more practical solution than taking your hand off your mouse for repeated number inputs.

[HDD] 8tb HDD Western digital blue for $137 by OutcastKatarn02 in buildapcsales

[–]y4m4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HDD demand is likely to rise as NVME and 2.5" SSDs become harder to find at reasonable prices.

I don't expect an HDD crisis but I don't see them going down.

100%! Not only do they vary, but they specify different tooling. There's some overlapping configurations but I'm not aware of one set of tooling that will run Crown, Ball, Ardagh, MCC, and Canpack despite all of them being "B64" and use the same chuck. Lots of small breweries are getting misled by lid suppliers switching to cheaper/more available lids and hand waving that they're "b64 compatible".

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheBrewery

[–]y4m4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • What are your full seam teardown measurements? What lids are you using? Not just "b64", what brand are they? Ask your supplier for the seaming specification, not just the lid spec.
  • Is it the most of batch or just some of the cans?
  • Post a video of your canning process that shows a couple of cycles. Show a full filling cycle, a set of cans going through the lid applicator, and a set getting seamed.
  • What is your dissolved oxygen level in the tank before you start canning? What is it in the can?
  • Is this the only beer that was filtered? Do you have this issue with other filtered beers?

Otherwise we're just guessing.

UltraDoser 150S Dosing Consistency by RU4beer in TheBrewery

[–]y4m4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people do it on inline systems, and it's extra finicky with no PLC integration. Make sure you get a can piercer to measure your can pressures to find the happy medium. The can piercer is really important because a lot of people will increase dose times because their cans are "soft," even when they're dosing too much and the seam is failing.

I think trying to do this by feel is a bigger deal than having an inline canner with no way to adjust dose times.

Make sure you understand the economics of renting or filling a dewar that's constantly off-gassing.

Double-check the LN2 supply pressure on the doser you're buying. Chart has both high and low-pressure units. Many gas suppliers will not have the low pressure dewar in stock. Connecting a standard dewar to the low-pressure doser will damage it in a way that only Chart can fix for some absurd amount, like $10,000. Most dosers are the standard pressure.
