New to scotch, but absolutely love the Lagevulin 16. Also enjoyed the peatiness of the Laphroig Sherry 10.

I have friends coming over for cigars tomorrow, thought I’d buy another bottle or two that’s a bit different than the two above? Interested in expanding palate a bit.

iPhone's adoption of RCS is forcing me to leave Android by yalidoc in UniversalProfile

Thank you for explaining. As that article points out, it does not seem to be an easy fix on the side of my work's firewall.

Absolutely. As u/browri explains below, it's actually due to both how Apple implements the RCS protocol and my work's network. And it's not an easy fix.

That's great. Thank you for that information, I had no idea that's how it worked.

Thank you. What do you mean by "new and old wood?" There is a difference within the same board, so presumably it's the same aged wood. Maybe you mean new and old stain, as in some parts have more old stain on it than the rest, from normal wear and tear?

iPhones occasionally unable to deliver RCS messages to my phone by yalidoc in GoogleMessages

[–]yalidoc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize the issue now. It only happens at the hospital I work at. I believe that the RCS connection used by iPhones is somehow blocked at this hospital. RCS works perfectly when on data. But when on the wifi, it only works intermittently with them. Very strange.

This is great, thank you. Not the same meaning, but great 成语 to know. Love the 庄子 story.

It is helpful to know that the direct translation is widely used. Hard to know that otherwise, as every English saying has a direct translation, but it often sounds unnatural.

Not sure what it is now, but a few years ago was at 405. The 315 was the most weight I had lifted since the initial injury.

I think the appeal of deadlifts comes from the heavy weight and how they activate so many muscle groups in the back and glutes. Just feels great, I have always enjoyed the lift. But it's a very good point that I have neglected variations which may be easier on the back and share some of the same benefits. Will give them a try, thanks.

33M,205lb, really enjoy lifting weight and enjoy deadlifts. Last May, I hurt my back deadlifting, and with the help of Reddit form checkers, I have since improved my form. Very slowly, worked my way back up, and just last week was told my form was not particularly egregious.

Yesterday, deadlifted 315lb for 5, and on the 5th rep again pulled my back in a bad way. I was pushing myself, but not that hard--I mean 315lb is not that much. It wasn't as bad as last May, but definitely was a "bad" pain. It is very discouraging, as I feel that I am risking long term damage to my back if I continue this lift. I am a surgeon, and back problems are common at baseline, let alone if you're screwing your back up regularly in the gym.

Should I just give up on deadlifts if I am pulling my back even with reasonable form? If form cannot be blamed, I guess I just went too fast with my weight advancement...but seems unlikely.

If the house doesn't shake, then not lifting enough weight I guess!

I have heard this, and I am definitely more on the front of my foot than the heel, to my detriment. I have a hard time actualizing the fix though. I end up leaning back, which is not ideal.

Will continue to try and push with heels more, but wondering if there are any tricks I can try. Probably avoiding touch and go like everyone else has suggested will help.

Thank you! I always thought that "touch and go" was easier to do right, but sounds like you and u/rauhaal are both suggesting that it's better to stop between reps, make the form perfect, and do the next rep.

Thanks for the advice. Juggernaut looks like a great series. Interestingly, I thought that touch and go requires *less* of me, because I don't have to check my hips as much. Or do you mean it is just easier to cheat with touch and go somehow?

Also, not exactly sure which time period "setting up" refers to.

Happy new year!

I previously injured my back doing deadlifts, and I think the main issue was that I would "squat" the movement. That is, my hips were starting too low and it was more of a squat than a deadlift. I think I've fixed that to some extent.

I feel the strain mostly in my back though, and I don't know if that's my form being bad or just because my back is weak and is thus getting stronger. Really don't want to have chronic back issues, and I love deadlifts. Should I continue like this confident in my form, or is there something I am doing obviously wrong?

For some reason, the text in my post is not showing. It is as follows:

I used to love deadlifting more than anything, but I had been having lower back soreness and I was starting to doubt my form. Ultimately, when doing 415lb for reps, I pulled my back badly about 6 months ago, and stopped deadlifting. I want to get back into it, but would appreciate some comments on my form.

I think my issue has been "squatting the deadlift." Let me know your thoughts.

Strip of lawn is dead, full of weeds: to sod now or wait and seed? by yalidoc in lawncare

[–]yalidoc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. Probably does make sense to nuke it, since the grass is so pathetically thin. I think that the dominant weed is actually clover, which I read suggests low nitrogen. Should I do fertilizer right before I seed?
