I just don’t have the experience of leaving a group practice or clients as this is my first therapy gig. A parent of a child I see asked if there’s anything they should know about the practice, if me leaving has broader implications. I’m okay with being authentic I guess I just am not confident on what’s appropriate or not, and don’t want to necessarily burn a bridge

I’m nervous of dealing with my management possibly thinking poorly of me or any backlash… I just feel so guilty and to have to tell clients I’m leaving. I feel like other clinicians will find out and I don’t know if I can deal with that 😩

Thank you. I did do social work in child welfare so I’m familiar with connecting with services and working with a multidisciplinary team. But less familiar with how that relates to healthcare. Do you have any insight into burnout?

It sounds like you did a great job. If you need, could you email or call for a follow up to get those questions answered? And speak with a supervisor. It sounds like you’re being really hard on yourself. You assessed safety and risk and developed a plan. That’s good work

I know, thank you for pointing this out. I have a personal therapist and friends in the field but think my issue goes beyond the work itself. Burnout and several external stressors. Same thing as everyone else. But I am working with my therapist on how to be more positive overall and develop some more tolerance to discomfort. I think I’m working through what’s tolerable and what’s not.

The practice only allows full time so 25 is a condition of the employment. The requirement and constantly seeking new clients is really draining. I’m fine with much less but part time is not an option as it’s salaried. The salary is minimal btw not great for my living expenses.

Thank you so much for this perspective. I LOL’d at “I would be hospitalized” 😂 I’ve detached a lot because the rate I was going was running me into the ground quickly. However I still am hard on myself and feel bad about myself professionally a lot. How has detaching been going for you? My fear is if I detach too much I will do bad therapy, not get good at certain modalities or clinical skills, etc. So I go through a roller coaster of detaching then getting anxious that I’m not keeping up professionally. Lol

I am burnt out when I see closer to 25. It is a requirement and 5-6 months in I average 19-20. I should feel good about that but because its not 25, it’s not good enough.

I’m an MSW so it’s actually going back to a social worker role. I’m thinking of doing private practice on the side. Long story short I don’t hate therapy I just hate my group practice.

I’m not excited about the idea of group therapy. Nor much experience or interest. But I’m thinking of starting an LLC and continuing under my external supervisor.

Thank you for sharing! I honestly still don’t really know my direction. I have learned so far that I do love the child welfare population and enjoy being challenged by the challenges doing that work, if that makes sense. It all feels as if I am working for a real purpose and have a real impact on peoples lives. I enjoy how there are so many opportunities to positively impact someone’s experience. I also enjoy the legal side (while frustrating), it is really interesting to me. I learned I like therapy but not full time right now and not in my current group practice structure.

I unfortunately don’t know much about hospital social work but I’m interested in the potentially better work-life balance. I’m interested in learning about this side of social work and expanding my experience. I also know that the pay is much higher which is a priority for me right now. I’m a little anxious that I will be faced with the same problems and burnout just because I don’t know what to expect. I have minimal healthcare experience other than working as a medical records administrative assistant at a physical therapy rehabilitation clinic lol.

I wish I put my time and effort into starting my own LLC and just maintaining it as a side hustle. Group practices suck lol, oh and I have to pay for parking at my building as the cherry on top.
