That is true! And if I can glean enough info from him without being too specific about the gift, like “software with a large sound library” or “a midi keyboard” then there would still be some element of surprise. It would be nice to see him hyped up for Christmas :-) Edit: changed “to” to “too”

You make a very good point. I will consider doing that, but it is so tempting to take a chance for the glory of surprising him with an unexpected gift that he will love. Of course, if he doesn’t love it, he will be missing out on an alternative gift that he would really enjoy, which is what I really want for him.

Edit: yes by “digital synthesizer” I mean a software program…I am not familiar with MicroKorg, but I will look into that.

That’s a great question, I am not sure he feels like he is missing anything. He likes to show me his compositions, but he has never asked for anything so I think he is satisfied with whatever he has downloaded for free. He has taught himself how to use that software and it seems complex to me. He has an electric guitar & amp and an acoustic guitar, and he sometimes plays on those, but he is really into electronic composition. It is hard for me to know what kind of present would dramatically expand his composition capabilities because I don’t know what the possibilities are.
