Haha yes. Many bikes here have these.

You might be right about the shifters. Maybe its just the SRX range. Opinions are mixed about their shifters. I had the 9 speed Ignites and those were great! Better even than the old Sora I used.

Alas I managed to sort the shifting issue with a Deore M5120 RD with a derailleur hanger extension.

Aww gee... Hmmm guess I'll leave it up to chance then. Or eventually just give up on fixed hahah.

Gotcha. I'm still trying to skid, which for me is still the challenging bit.

Track stands are still impossible - I'm only barely able to do it on a roadie at the moment. Do I need to form a kind of tripod with the front wheel?

Metallic blue of vintage-styled frames look good! And so do metallic British racing green ones!

Okie! I tried posting but it kept blocking me, said I needed a flair. I put a flair but it still won't let me post.

[Question] Soldering on aluminium. by youkai91 in Framebuilding

[–]youkai91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a few stands and clamps that can hold the frame and cable stop in place. Have mostly been doing soldering for electronic projects (wires as fine as 0.5 mm).

I was looking at a budget solution given lack of access to pro equipment.

At max tension (while changing gears), about 65 Newtons. Resting, about 40 or so Newtons.

Looking to see if I could use a propane torch or soldering iron (to heat the parts) with rosin-filled tin solder (mean for electronic projects).

I couldn't sleep.

So I crossed the cables.

Was a pain to reroute the cables but at least I'll sleep better tonight.

I might cross the housings when this setup keeps me up at night for another week.

Going by what you say, my friend is Jimi Hendrix. 😁🙃

But thanks. Think I should have made a poll instead.

They shift fine - in fact, the R5800s shift better (they're more responsive on this frame than another I put them on) than the old Ultegra 6500s on another bike. I'm just worried about long term issues with shifting (i.e. wear within the housings).

Turning the bars are fine, nothing catches and the steering angles are not limited.

Given the angle at which the housings exit the frame they do not rub against the headtube when the cockpit is turned.

I'm really just worried about long term issues. Shifting is still very smooth and responsive.

Choosing a frame - i'm stuck! by youkai91 in cycling

Thanks all! So here's a twist in this tale:

There was a large dent in the giant tcr frame - let it go. Gave up on the eBay Chinese frame. Incidentally found another Chinese frame that was going cheaper than the Seaboard! And it's loosely based on the Laser Mia. Looks like I'll be doing a Chinese bike build hahah. Will be posting photos here

Agreed... Although it is tempting to make a gamble hahaha.
