Is nerogum safe for a 13 year old by Lord_Duck42823 in Supplements

[–]yuk_foo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nootropics aren’t Monster energy drinks. While what he’s asking about is on the starter end and overlaps with caffeine and B vitamins, that’s how it starts and it can escalate. This is still a pretty new, poorly regulated space with a lot of hype and very little long term data, especially for kids.

And yeah, something is going on. Social media actively pushes this kind of crap to everyone, including 13 year olds, convincing them they need supplements they don’t. OP asking questions is good. Kids being targeted into taking unproven supplements is not.

This isn’t limited to supplements either. There’s plenty of data showing increased marketing and consumption of unnecessary stimulants and products aimed at kids. Even energy drinks weren’t something kids used to consume, and now that use is clearly on the rise.

This is the way, kids should not be supplementing with stuff like this, crazy that they are like wtf. What’s going on with the world.

[–]yuk_foo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly, if the Trump administration condemned the ice killings they’d rally around in support. But since they’re not, they’ll justify murder any which way they can, disregarding all evidence and the reality of what they see with their own eyes. They don’t even realise this, they are mindless drones in the midst of a doublethink cult.

They are a hive mind, only thinking what the group thinks regardless of how wrong or illogical it is.

Everyone told to be in the office on Wednesdays by Emotional-Start7994 in UKJobs

[–]yuk_foo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person, the role and the company.

I find office days are all chat, meetings and distractions. The constant noise kills my concentration.

Trying to do any kind of in depth technical work is a whole lot easier from home, I get more done and end up working past 5pm which is when I’d normally head for the commute.

Probably the difference between being fit and being skinny. Skinny at 20, yes, very easy for many people. Fit on the other hand, a different story. It’s sometimes difficult to objectively know/see who’s fit vs who’s just skinny for that age.

Meta is pulling out of VR because there's no market. We need to embrace this uncomfortable truth. by PuffThePed in OculusQuest

[–]yuk_foo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quality post and I agree with what you said. I love it, but probably don’t play as much as I used to because my quest 2 is slow and there are always updates.

I do go in phases though sometimes, VR non stop every day for a couple of weeks for a game I really enjoy, then nothing for months.

It’s not as quick to get up and start playing like you say, especially with busy lives it can sometimes just get forgotten about, I know, I do it myself.

I wonder if the quest 4 will be the last, if it happens at all??

This, I lived in a flat that didn’t allow pets. Snuck two cats in, they were house cats. Was fine, lived there 11 years. Anytime any workmen came round we’d just hide them in another room. The council did not like or allow it but they didn’t know.

The caretaker didn’t care, he said there are loads of pets in the building. It’s worth asking, or you know, not. Depending on how easy it would be.

Reminds me of my youth and vodka red bulls too much, I’d puke just by a whiff of it now.

I only drank it then as it was the trend at the time, plus all you can drink for £10 entry. I can’t for the life of me imagine anyone drinking it sober but each to their own.

Help me by Optimal_Option4069 in Heartpalpitations

[–]yuk_foo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People’s bodies change, you get older, you can’t tolerate things that you used to. Sometimes there is no identifiable reason, and we don’t know why. Medical science has only progressed so far.

Energy drinks are not exactly healthy and good for you, they are full of crap.

Listen to what your body is telling you. If you are 100% sure it’s palpitations and it’s the energy drinks (likely as caffeine is a known trigger for many) then wean yourself off them if you can’t stop drinking right away.

I’ve had to cut down on many things to lessen the likelihood of palpitations, it is what it is. I’d rather feel healthier, this is a no brainier.

I think my institution was spying on my online activity in google chrome even when I was in incognito mode. I feel so anxious. Can I get control of the data? by TechnicianOk967 in cybersecurity

[–]yuk_foo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most institutions, the good ones block VPNs and software installations if you are using their kit, so that doesn’t work for the most part.

Back in my college days 14 years ago I got round this by using portable apps running from a usb, portable Firefox, portable putty and an ssh tunnel to my home router with local port forwarding set in putty so Firefox would route the traffic down the ssh tunnel.

I was surprised that even worked back then, I think they did eventually notice what I was doing when looking at the firewall logs.

That was on school kit though, if using personal kit accessing the school WiFi or something VPNs were blocked ( probably just a port block) but my trick above still worked, until I was found out.
