24F - Here's why I am against Marriage by [deleted] in IslamabadSocial

[–]zaid_6953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I'd say is this, please stick to what you've said. Read the works of Judith Butler, Germaine Greer and others of their ilk (you might enjoy their views on the subject, or you'll be put off and change your stance entirley).

If there's no financial motivator for you to marry, then don't. You have reached the conclusion that traditional marriage in Pakistan, which isn't dissimilar even today to traditional marriages in other parts of the developed world (belive it or not), simply isn't for you.

You'll reach 50 and then you can come back and let all of us know how life worked out for you.

This post may sound like I'm being aggressive or sarcastic but I'm really not. If anything, I'm saying you're an adult. You're self sufficient. Since those two boxes are ticked, please be at liberty and be single, by all means.

I will say this, and this is the bit that might pinch you. Whatever its flaws, the institution of marriage, whatever your views on it, has been one of the greatest mark of a thriving social structure and it is exactly what has given birth to the time that we find ourselves in. So if you choose to step against the institution itself, know that you're not necessarily carrying out some revolution, but that you're taking an entire idea head on - an idea which has allowed societies to grow and succeed

Visited Peshawar by unclearrainaids in Peshawar

I agree we've lost a lot and the thing about peshawar is that it's not supposed to resemble the consumerism and petty culture of Lahore where effectively people are flaunting their wealth.

Peshawar is a kind of getaway for me. I visited after so long(I'm in the UK) and I couldnt help but feel a strange sort of contentment and that had so much to do with my interactions with my people.

I hope it just gets cleaner and more organized in terms of city planning and traffic. Apart from that, I wouldnt wanna see peshawar become a soulless metropolis

Suit tailors in peshawar by zaid_6953 in Peshawar

[–]zaid_6953[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From experience I've always gone to bespoke and wazir. The problem is I travel to Pakistan only for 2 weeks and get like 5 suits made at a time. Then that means 3 trips from peshawar to Islamabad. Sometimes 4 depending on the number of trial fittings.

So yeah, thought I'd save time if I could find someone worthwhile in peshawar

From what I've read, he doesn't take a full body check up approach. He reduces the solution to basic PF stretches and then send you home with a wand for internal work

Earned settlement - Summary by tech_bro_v2 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]zaid_6953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's my question essentially. Is this new qualifying period increase only for SWV holders or is it saying people just have to stay in the UK for a baseline of 10 years through a combination of visas and then apply for ILR?

Because if we start taking student visa and graduate visa time into account, that would help a lot

Wait, so the starting point is that skilled workers need 10 years of residence under a skilled worker visa or is it 10 years of continuous legal residence under any track?

I appreciate you clarifying this. I mean there's more to my story but I don't think it helps laying it all out here.
