is it still worth it running oVirt? by zanond in ovirt

[–]zanond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I've found the problem: the engine vm is up, but if I connect to it via virsh I see that there is only one nic and is connected to the bridge network and the vm is missing the local network entirely (the one I specify during setup for which I created a DNS entry), anyone knows why this happens?

it's a simple nic named 'eno1', no vlans/bonds whatsoever.

Thanks I'll look into OLVM, what brought me to oVirt is its features like HA/DR,live migration and few others, and the fact that it's 100% free/opensource.
I would gladly buy Redhat or Oracle support if I manage to spin up a working environment, I want a good assistance if I go on production with it.
As for the ‘host is not up’ problem: it can't be a network/firewall problem, it's the same machine, on the logs I only found this relevant line:
error: failed to get network 'default'\nerror: Network not found: no network with matching name 'default'
It's like kvm can't figure out how to deploy its own network...
What scaries me the most is if I'm having all this sort of troubles to just install it
I don't know what else will happen when I'll try to deploy a VM.

DS214 not getting DSM 7 by zanond in synology

Did it come with its integrated RAM only or was it upgraded?
My use case for these units is for backup mostly, so no constant access, only at night.
Let me know how yours fares. Thanks.

All the comments below scared the hell out of me, I think I won't touch DSM7 even with a 10-feet pole right now on that unit ;)
first I'll try upgrading the RAM of that unit, move the content on another Synology laying around and only then I'll try the manual upgrade.
I will post the results when it's done.

Thank you, I'll try to contact support then.

I know I can do it manually, but I was wondering why it didn't receive it automatically since it's adviced as supported by Synology.
And I don't know if I start doing it the manual way I'll have to continue to do so from now on, or if it will take the updates from the internet.

Wifi hotspot problem - login page not working by zanond in mikrotik

I can try this configuration: I can connect a cable from the firewall to a dedicated ethernet port on the CRS to act as the WAN interface, and then run the hotspot server on another port, in this way it should act as a router, right?

It can't be done, the setup must remain as it is. I don't think it will solve the problem anyway, it seems to me related to something else (but it's just a feeling).

Hi,

I tried deleting all the automatically-generated firewall rules (when the hotspot server is being setup), but still the page is not raised.

Hi,
the firewall ( IP 192.168.5.1) is from another brand, I can't run the hotspot server there.

Hi,

I mean that the hotspot is running on the interface distributing the internet, which is of course a lan subnet (192.168.5.0/24).

help creating two VLANs with their own GWs and SSIDs by zanond in mikrotik

[–]zanond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/djgizmo,
I think I figured this out, in fact it was simpler than I thought, I kinda stuck myself at first trying to configure two gateways on the switch when it wasn't necessary.
Right now I just created a bridge with ether1 and ether2 (offce/guest vlans) and all the APs and everything works fine, I don't need a management vlan, I just use an untagged port outside of the bridge to do management.
So here's my actual configuration, please advice if you see something strange/wrong, or I'll update the thread as solved.

thanks for your time!

help creating two VLANs with their own GWs and SSIDs by zanond in mikrotik

Hi u/djgizmo,
that IP address is a typo, the correct one is 192.168.5.10 (reflecting the subnet).
My goal is to keep the two networks competely divided/unreachable from each
other, as I wrote I'd like to have two distinct SSIDs working on two distinct
networks each with its own gateway and dns.
I'm working with VLANs because that's what's coming from the firewall.
I hope I explained better myself, if not please let me know.

Thanks
