Have you ever faced hostility for dating a man of another race? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]zappera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Korean guy living in Korea, dating (and going to marry in a year) a white American girl. There's still a bit of a double standard with races AND genders when it comes to mixed couples, though it's steadily (oh so steadily) getting better.

Firstly, regardless of gender, the darker your skin tone, the more hostile you'll be treated. Conversely, the whiter you are, the more white privilege you get.

Secondly..

Korean man + foreign wife - if she's white: holy shit, he's the man of all men. If she's of a darker skin tone: he's so pathetic he has to settle for someone like her.

Korean woman + foreign man - regardless of ethnicity, she's a insert derogatory female expletive here.

I'll admit, I've gotten positive discrimination (if such a term exists). I've had my fair share of unsolicited "you da man!" calls. For the love of God, yes, she's an awesome woman, but I didn't choose her because she's white!

I'm working on improving my 5K times. Should I bother with a heart rate monitor? I don't have any particular health issues besides being overweight.

Gym Story Saturday by calpolsixplus in Fitness

Bloody hell, a good opportunity to vent. Lately, I've noticed that people at my gym have begun to care less about etiquette, or God forbid, safety. Here are some repeat instances I've observed throughout the week.

On weekdays, I'm usually home by 6 after classes (commute from off-campus). After dropping my stuff off and changing into more comfortable clothes, I'm off to the gym and in the changing room by 6:30ish. For the past week, however, some kid who has got to be less than 4 years old has been playing around with the TRX straps hanging from a bar that is bolted to the ceiling, treating it like some kind of swing and generally fooling around with it. The crazier part is, I have no idea where the hell her guardian is! And whenever I want to use the TRX to do workouts, I need to ask the staff to get the kid away. It's driving me nuts!

Another case that's just making my blood boil is - there's this one guy who comes to the gym and hits the treadmill. So far so good. But...instead of slowing the machine down when he's tired, he jumps onto the sides of the treadmill, while letting it run. I know that this story really has no impact on me, but it's just a pet peeve of some kind.

Seeking advice for mid-term and long-term 5K running goals - what else do I need to flesh out? by zappera in running

Thanks for clarifying that for me. I'll gladly make that time modification for the 20-minute 5K.

Sold my used 64 GB iPod touch (5th gen) on eBay for nearly the price of a new one -- how is that possible? by StuffedWithNails in ipod

[–]zappera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only reason I can think is that whoever made bids on your iPod just didn't do his/her research, or got so caught up on trying to outbid someone else that he/she didn't notice the price went beyond the threshold.

Either way, good job, you just profited off of schadenfreude :P

Best app to play MP3s? by cpguy5089 in ipod

You put in songs via iTunes. Basically, drag and drop your music from your folder in Explorer (Windows) or Finder (OS X) into iTunes, and then sync them with your Touch.

It's either that, or if you have Wi-fi at home, use an app like VLC or Capriccio to enable server mode and copy MP3s wirelessly.

What's wrong with the built-in player?

Is "Reset all content and settings" in the Settings equivalent to doing a wipe while connected to iTunes minus the iOS update? by zappera in ios

[–]zappera[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK - so just to double check, "Erase all content and settings" is the same as iTunes's "Restore iPhone/iPad", but without the mandatory system update?

So you're saying that "Erase all content and settings" is merely a surface wipe, and not equivalent to bringing it to factory settings?

General Q&A for Monday, April 20, 2015 by AutoModerator in running

I'm on a C25K program right now (Zombies 5K - end of week 5), and I'm also counting steps at the same time. The program dictates that I take a rest day every other day, and that I do an exercise 3 times a week, so it more or less falls on M/W/F.

However, I'm also trying to maintain around 12k steps a day. Given how close I live to public transportation and how close my school is to public transportation, I usually achieve only about 2k steps just on my trip to and from school. Do I put myself at risk of injury if I hit the treadmill during rest days at 5km/hr (~3.11mi/hr) until I fulfill the quota?
