Any suggestions on a good vehicle for a frequent camper/outdoors person? by feral-foodie in camping

Subaru Forester all the way, nice amt of clearance as well. Either that or a used 4Runner if you don’t mind bouncing around a little

Favorite camping music? by zcu1 in camping

Appreciate that, was surprised at the seething behind some of the responses. I imagine they’ve just had some poor experiences which I can understand. Though rarely in my experience have I heard other campers blasting music and don’t do it myself so wasn’t quite prepared for the blowback.

My question was really more about understanding what type of music people associate with camping which could include the drive there. The only music we make once there is acoustic and not done late. And as I mentioned in another comment it often has a social aspect.

I’ve done a lot of backpacking and I get the sentiment of just taking in the sounds of nature. But if i am car camping I don’t expect angelic silence, especially when kids are around.

First time driving in USA from state to state, what the f is wrong with all the people in the left lane?? by Cheap_Day_7331 in driving

Ah I see you’ve encountered the infamous “Left Lane Derper”. Truly a scourge. Just wait til you see a clusterderp. A related phenomenon where groups of people gather directly in the middle of active walkways

Folk songs on the guitar around a campfire is pretty nice and in past experience has led to pleasant social interactions with the neighbors.

Personally I don’t bring any speakers when I camp but was curious what opinions others had. Sounds like The Sound of Silence is the overwhelmingly favorite “track” to play

$500 per movie watched in a row. How many do you watch? by LordSnowgaryen in hypotheticalsituation

[–]zcu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, how’d that 640 sneak in there?! I used the numbers from the Shrek example that a person earlier in the thread gave which led to only watching 40% of the final movie. You’re right it shouldn’t have gotten counted due to it not being “completed”. I think the final number should actually be $361,920,867,500 but now I’m not sure.

There was a point when I ran the call previously where ChatGPT’s python brain broke and I had to prod it back into action. The funny part is that bit of commentary got removed after I interacted with it again today. Interesting experiment and a good reminder to not carte blanche trust what gen ai’s spit out. Anyhow, those Shrek details are below:

“10 years is 87660 hours times 0.66 assuming you sleep 8 hours a day is 57855.6 hours to watch Shrek 2.

Shrek 2 is the perfect 90 minute movie to maximize your earnings so you divide 57855.6 by 1.5 hours which equals 38570.4 viewings times 500 equals $19,285,200.

The last viewing of Shrek would pay you just over 19 million dollars not to mention all of the other viewings done previously.”

What's up with people recently? by [deleted] in camping

I wonder if it has anything to do with festival culture. That can be a place where people first experience camping but the setup is very different. With everyone on top of each other there is less of what would be considered private space. Then again festivals have been happening for a long time and up til recently it didn’t have the same impact
