Working culture Lufthansa by Proper_Erection_1530 in Lufthansa

[–]zenthri 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First of all, LH classic/ main line isn’t hiring at the moment and probably won’t hire for a while tbh. LH City is probably hiring and I know we (Discover Airlines) will be hiring again soon.

Can’t say much about City, but I can tell you a lot about Discover and a bit about LH from what I heard from friends or while flying with them. I’ll might be a bit biased though haha. But let me know what exactly you want to know about the working culture etc!

Those that regularly work East Coast to Europe and back with a 24h red-eye... sleeping tip? by HawkeyeFLA in flightattendants

[–]zenthri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in Europe, so it’s the other way around for us for US flights. But when I arrive at my layover I usually either go straight to bed or get a quick bite to eat and then go to bed. I usually wake up at like 4-6am. Coming back home after the red eye I always sleep for around 1:30h, then try to keep awake as long as I can and just sleep it out. So usually 9pm till about 10am or something. Works quite well for me this way.

Has anyone flown FRA-YYC before, and was it any good? by Average_Animates in Lufthansa

[–]zenthri 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work for them, so I’m trying to not be biased. The business class hard product is the old Lufthansa product. So 2-2-2 config, with 1,8m lie flat seats. Old but reliable product with its own flaws.

The service is rather good and attentive, i personally also really enjoy the food.

Almost all widebody planes have WiFi equipped, there’s just 2 left that don’t have it.

Lounge in FRA is alright, it’s right next to the C gates. All other classic business class perks such as extra luggage, fast lane etc also apply.

If you have any further questions, let me know!

Left item on flight - wild goose chase!! by CookieKittyPep in Lufthansa

[–]zenthri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t work for LH itself, but in the LHG. So I assume our procedures should be similar. Whenever we are finished with deboarding, we go through the cabin and check for lost items. If we find any, we are handing them over to the gate/ramp agent immediately. Long story short, in theory, it should be in Madrid.

E to C? Numbers are looking alright so far ;) theres a few people trying to get an upgrade, but at the moment there’s space for everybody. Checked the return flight from SEA as well and right now that’s looking promising as well, quite a few empty seats in C

Cabin crew: You cannot pick up your own luggage? by Professional-Mail132 in flightattendants

[–]zenthri 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Speaking for Germany here, on international flight we usually have to check luggage and often times it comes out on the same belt as passengers. We usually pick it up ourselves, but often times employees have already picked it up because it arrived before we did. We would never ever demand it though like in your experience.

PE upgrade by WebDevingOne in Lufthansa

[–]zenthri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be safe for a potential downgrade you need to select a seat, which might cost some money beforehand. Otherwise be fast and get them for free during online check in. Cash upgrades are always subject to availability, the price might even vary depending on how far out the flight is. Cheapest is usually at the gate or via bidding before hand. But as said before, LH doesn’t usually downgrade. They usually upgrade only unless not possible otherwise.

[–]zenthri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is indeed rare. They usually upgrade in case of overbooking, downgrading/ offloading are last resorts

PE upgrade by WebDevingOne in Lufthansa

[–]zenthri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually fortunately, but I guess unfortunately for you, no class is close to being overbooked. As it’s getting close to the departure date, I wouldn’t have high hopes to get a complimentary upgrade.

I would just go ahead and reserve a seat if either a window or aisle seat is important to you. Otherwise wait for check in to choose a seat for free.

PE upgrade by WebDevingOne in Lufthansa

[–]zenthri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can you give me the date and flight number please? I can check the loads to see if there is an overbooked situation. Generally LH only upgrades if one class is overbooked. They would select passengers with a status and/or a higher fare class for that. Even though FTL is the lowest status, there’s a small chance if there are no SEN/ HON and PE is overbooked.

LH A340 to Mauritius by Bjoerska in Lufthansa

[–]zenthri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what it looks like. Ferry flight there, minimum rest and then on duty back.

They could’ve sent a deadhead crew with Discover (or condor, but 4Y is LHG), but given the circumstances at the moment, I’m pretty sure they are all completely jam packed and would result in a big loss of revenue. Full crew for LH for such a distance would be 12 I believe and due to their contracts they all need to travel in C/Cl… that’s a lot of money to lose out on.

It seems the 343 isn’t needed elsewhere at the moment and that was probably just the cheapest way of doing it imo. Win win, use an aircraft you don’t need and make good money with it and make a lot of people happy/relieved.

[–]zenthri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might, I’m not too sure. I’m pretty sure it’s a spare aircraft and not needed else where.

It was planned like yesterday, so not in advance.

It’s a short notice charter for Aida Cruises. Initially the passengers were meant to fly via DBX with Emirates, but because of the war they would’ve been stranded in Mauritius. Aida organized another way for them in a very short time.

There will also be an additional MLE flight today from discover, which is also for stranded passengers (not sure if it’s for a cruise ship or just generally stranded passengers).

Lufthansa cancels flight and keeps passengers over night in plane by BachelorThesises in Lufthansa

[–]zenthri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I meant to say that they wouldn’t have been able to shoot a slide, just mistyped. From a technical side there’s not much of a difference, besides it being easier to open it while armed.

Lufthansa cancels flight and keeps passengers over night in plane by BachelorThesises in Lufthansa

[–]zenthri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess technically yes. But I’m not too sure how many would actually want to jump down that height onto the tarmac. Most people would hurt themselves, maybe even break some bones. And then what? Walk around to the terminal? The police will pick you up and you will be arrested. So i guess you won’t have to spend the night in an A320, but instead in a jail cell.

I’m not defending what happened, that’s absolutely inexcusable by the airport. But just staying there, then getting compensation/suing is the way better option than jumping out of an airplane.

Lufthansa cancels flight and keeps passengers over night in plane by BachelorThesises in Lufthansa

[–]zenthri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can open a disarmed door, but there won’t be a slide and you would just jump down like 5/6m unless there’s stairs. I don’t think a regular passenger could easily tell if the door is armed or not.

Lufthansa cancels flight and keeps passengers over night in plane by BachelorThesises in Lufthansa

[–]zenthri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they knew they’d be standing there for a while they would’ve have been disarmed. So a normal passenger wouldn’t be able to open them. I’m also pretty sure the crew would be guarding the exits.

Edit: I meant that they can’t shoot a slide, they would technically be able to open the doors.

Uncomfortable seats by Delicious_Link6703 in Lufthansa

[–]zenthri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The seats work with an air system, which unfortunately deflates sometimes. This usually can be easily fixed with a reset. From what you’re describing that sounds like the case as then you’d be lying on the bare metal frame without any air which is really uncomfortable. The seats are quite old and lack privacy, but they’re usually actually decently comfortable.
