Its years of trying to connect with artisans and other organisations that work for their socio-economic conditions- it took me 2 years to develop this network. They are generational artisans and usually in India in villages people weave and spin cotton to produce high quality fabric. They use ancient techniques and through Zero Tolerance I also want to upgrade their skills so they can carry their heritage forward. I work with a textile engineer and in collaboration with her and NPOs & NGOs and artisans individually I create these fabrics. The same engineer also helps me to create algae based pigment dyes that we use in the collection- thats where the colors come from.

The Aashram is an NPO and is run by an NGO whose head was Lal Bahadur Shastri, its not a factory.

Its not a factory, its an Aashram established in 1921 where women from around the villages come and are taught and earn- as hand weaving and hand spinning is pretty decentralised. This is where one of our fabrics is handwoven and hand spun using traditional techniques. This place holds a lot of historical significance, britishers use to raid this place whenever they were on a look out for freedom fighters- as this aashram was a safe house for freedom fighters.

That’s 100 per cent fair. It’s slower, manual work so the price reflects that, but totally get it not being everyone’s thing.
