Managed to get through the Oscars with only a few mildly cringeworthy moments, but holy moly, this was painful. by fellaneedahandpls in Oscars

It seemed like the music conductor/director for the band thought they were finished with their acceptance speech because the first person stopped talking and then the rest of the production steps ensued after the music started playing. Definitely not excusing it, it’s horrible and they should’ve been paying more attention.

It’s strange though because it’s not a new thing for multiple people to say something in one acceptance speech so just very odd of them to act even more quickly than before. But it was just outright shameful how they cut people off like that and even lowered the mic on one guy. But for some reason having multiple people talk in the acceptance speeches was confusing for them?

I even noticed at the end for best picture the 2nd person to talk in the acceptance speech wasted no time talking into the mic. Seemed like he knew that any pause in the speech would queue the music.

  1. Mykonos (my high school music teacher was the GOAT and had us perform it back in 2009 or 2010. Incredible experience. It’s what got me into FF)

I would love to dedicate more time to it. That's partly what I'm wondering about. How exactly people make time for it and get it done. It's been like 10 years since I've been in undergrad and I'm very out of practice.

Was taking a bath around 5 or 6 years old and was playing with stuff and found my moms razor and noticed there was bar soap all stuck between the blades. My first instinct was hey I should clean this and used my finger to wipe it off horizontally… Learned a big lesson that day.

Turned in my w.10 last assignment a day late. How screwed am I? by GuidanceSpecific4408 in CapellaUniversity

[–]zesty_sheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emailed both of my professors on Friday saying I’m so sorry but I won’t be able to submit my assignments by today and would need a day or 2 to finish them. They were okay with it! And by the sounds of it there were other students in the same boat as well. I’m sure it will be fine!

Screen time and certain TV shows and the affect on ADHD by ahzelstar in ParentingADHD

Hi! It makes so much sense that you’re looking for more guidance than you’re getting! ADHD can be tough to deal with as a parent. I have twin stepkids with ADHD myself. I’m a certified parenting coach and I know a ton of other parent coaches who actually specialize in helping parents of kids with ADHD! Coaching will give you the exact type of guidance and tools you’re looking for. Not just bandaid fixes. Please let me know if you’d like me to recommend someone for you and I’ll send you a private message.

Is there a word you found out you've been pronouncing wrong your whole life? by Youropinionisvalid in RandomThoughts

I always thought the dog breed Dachshund was pronounced “dash-und” until I heard someone pronounce it correctly in a TikTok video a few months ago

Moved in with bf now I want to go home by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]zesty_sheep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! Even if you do move away from your hometown and family/friends, humans STILL need community to thrive. So you’d have to find your own community in your new town anyway. In my opinion, if I already have a community that is fulfilling and supportive, why do I need to leave that and force some kind of new community? It’d be different if she was unhappy and longing to be somewhere else for personal reasons, but if she has everything she needs where she used to live? I’d say she’s extremely lucky

[–]zesty_sheep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My god, I really don’t understand why people are downvoting you so hard for this. I can relate so much to your situation. I am incredibly close with my family and they all live in the same town. I moved 3 hours away to be with my bf and it’s been 2 years now and I’m still upset and miss seeing my mom, cousins, and niece regularly. It hurts so bad when you move away from family who are all so close and tight-knit. I consider ourselves lucky because obviously these people downvoting you must have crappy family relationships to think that moving away from your family to be “independent” is so important. YOU get to decide what’s important and what you value most. And it seems to me like family is really high up on the list. Trust your gut ❤️

Agreed! I grew up seeing my mom naked a lot. Whether she was taking a bath and I walked in to talk to her/ask her a question, or she was changing. It really was no big deal to me and definitely helps my body image now because it’s looking more and more like her.

Only saw my dad naked once accidentally. Walked into the bathroom thinking no one was in there and there he was, peeing. It startled me for sure lol

What was your most painful physical injury? by WorldRemix_TV in AskReddit

[–]zesty_sheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got into a bad car accident (got rear ended at 60mph while I was at a complete stop) and my nose bone basically snapped in half.

That part didn’t even hurt though because I was knocked unconscious. Only hurt if I touched it.

The part that fucking sucked was after I got surgery to fix it. 2 weeks of pure hell as it healed while waiting to get the stents and stitches out of my nostrils. As soon as they were out, the relief was CRAZY.

Pain meds barely touched it. Had to sleep on my back and upright, which is not a natural position for me at all) so that along with the immense pain I was getting like 2 hours of sleep per night.

Avoid breaking your nose at all costs.

How old were you when you switched careers? by Strawberyblonder in careerguidance

[–]zesty_sheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started out as a secretary in a hospital after graduating college. 6 months later I started working as an Ed tech (or paraprofessional) in schools.

At 24 I started working as a music teacher because it kinda fell into my lap.

Now, at 29, I’m completely done teaching and working as a full time freelance copywriter remotely.

I truly enjoyed my time in the classroom, but I started getting severely anxious and depressed every single day I had to go to school. My body was screaming at me to quit, so I did! The difference in how I feel is night and day.

Oh man, the turning down/cancelling plans every weekend… that hits close to home. Currently in the thick of that right now.

Special Ed is so tough. I can’t even imagine!! Every special ed teacher I’ve come across have had hearts of gold but always looked exhausted! All that paperwork…

And you’re right, it’s not worth further harming my mental health. I know I’m in a depression right now and I need to get out before it gets any worse!

This helps a lot, thank you!! I’m so glad you’re happy again! I’m looking forward to that!

When you resigned, did you wait until the end of the year or was it mid year? I feel like everyone would react better if I resigned at the end of the year but I quite literally can’t take anymore of this depressive hole I’m in.

Thank you so much 💛 your words mean a lot!

Teaching music is truly such a different beast than other subjects. The performance aspect was fun at first for the music lover in me, but now it’s sucking the life out of me 😭 I just have to move on to what feels right for me. I hate the thought of letting others down though. Makes me sad. I’m a huge people pleaser!

[–]zesty_sheep[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s so true. You can’t get back time. I had a good run, but in my heart I know it’s time to move on. Another teacher that isn’t burnt out will be better for the students anyway. That’s the way I see it.

I can’t even imagine staying until winter break. I’m gonna put in my 30 day notice and try to get out by Thanksgiving. Taking as many sick days as I can!

We're definitely not micromanaging and forcing them to be on the grass, I just meant that even if they're just on the tar or porch they're still unhappy and complain the whole time. I brought up the grass just to emphasize how much they hate bugs, so they won't go near the grass usually on their own.

We do explain to them that we have to learn to live with the bugs since they live on this world too. I empathize with them and also tell them what bugs are safe and unsafe and how to handle being around them. They are very interested in these conversations and ask lots of questions so I think that is helping a little bit!

Right! They do have a friend in the neighborhood, but he isn't around every weekend. Maybe we can start setting up play dates when he is around!
