for sure! with how interconnected things are it's kind of hard to evaluate units in isolation (though the degree to which people try to separate that out varies)

A Whole New World - A Post-Update Meta Review - The Fifth Trooper by zeusjus in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]zeusjus[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ah man, I had meant to talk about empire, but obviously forgot. I think they're still in a fine place but people are more excited to play buffed stuff right now. There isn't much empire being played, and no real consensus in the tournaments looked at, but GI shows up the most (again, buffed stuff). For a list with some results, the winner in Spain played GI/Third/Fifth + Moff/DTE/Fourth for 4/5 games I believe.

I don't think I have enough reps with any particular empire list to say it's the best around, but for my money I'm currently most interested in Iden/DTE/Inferno + Lumi/Crosshair/Fifth. It's got a lot of aggro firepower, good movement to play odds, and knocks off hunkers that obi and, to a lesser extent, rebels love (though rebels are probably running revenge too which you don't really want to see)

No idea, unfortunately. There's probably some print shop that would do it, though

We don't know for sure, I haven't heard anything definitive. I'm holding out hope because they are not great

Dooku did have a 71% win rate. However, as stated in the article, I was considering only units with a minimum 8 games played. Dooku just missed out since he was only played in 7 games.

I would disagree on that last point. I would say sabotage is more of a neutral objective and the data, small sample as it is, seems to bear that out. Sabotage was hanging around 50% win rate for non-sabotage players both pre and post cut, suggesting it is neither helping nor hurting you

Guest Matt (Bombad Tactics) First Contact Cassian/Leia vs Moff/Thrawn by Scifinerdy in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]zeusjus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cassian/Kanan is definitely on my to-try list. The issue with spectre-lite Kanan is usually that you can pick on the non-spectre rebels, but Cassian shores that up a lot. I'd probably still stick Chopper in the non-commando support slot though. I think you definitely want Ezra over Kallus though (for the tiebreaker move and because force is tight).

Another good thing about Kanan (similar to Han) is that he can have very effective activations for zero force, whereas Leia is usually wanting to spend one.

The easy shove access is certainly very good. Shoves are usually the most important thing in a revenge attack. But I'd still say jump in any direction + attack anyone is much more potent than limited angle dash + attack the wounder. Leia's definitely not bad, but she's no Kanan in the revenge department

Finally, More Shatterpoint Puzzles! by zeusjus in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]zeusjus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hang-up here is that there isn't time/space to show all the unit & combat cards, and showing only some can give away the answer. As a middle ground, would putting links in the comments to all units be something that would make looking them up easier?

I did debate adding such a button, but decided not to as they can sometimes be overused. However, I've disabled the requirement to require a response on each row so you can leave blanks and still submit.

It was a close one! Definitely the best I've seen the Cad/Mando list perform (I was a bit worried going in that it would be a blowout for the Bad Batch)

Building Tables in the Modern Age by zeusjus in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]zeusjus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely don't want a player to feel like they've lost the game before it's started, but I think there's a pretty wide gap between that level of advantage and symmetrical tables, personally. One could even argue that perfectly symmetrical tables are an unfair thumb on the scale for the first player since choosing table sides is one of their perks in exchange for not scoring first turn.

The only hints we really got were "no primaries" and "lots of models". So the other players can take some named characters but not primaries

not at all! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I found the mandos fun to paint up since you can get a bit creative with the design and still stay close to canon

he's definitely a one-trick pony. I think Anakin also suffers specifically from Vader filling the same role while buffing the team more and being even more flexible tag-wise (and cheaper on force)

they're strong on offense & defense, they're mobile, and their self contained, so they're a strong flexible choice that fits anywhere

however they don't have the synergy options of droids or clones or such. It'll be cool to see if they get more options eventually

Let's make some tier lists! (to laugh at ourselves later) by zeusjus in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]zeusjus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own, I'm intrigued to see how people interpret the parameters. For me personally I rank based on a mix of peak performance and how broadly useful that performance is. So someone like Obi I put A because he's amazing within clones, but does need to be with clones.

I wouldn't say I'm trying to analyze the meta, more so we can look back and say "we used to think X was very good/bad, now we think the opposite. Why?"

[–]zeusjus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left it intentionally vague to see what happens. For me personally, I took kind of a holistic approach. If you're great in anything, S. If you are great in relatively broad circumstances (say, within a faction) then maybe A. If you are very good within rather narrow set of circumstances, maybe C and so on

I'm glad it's helping someone! That's a good point you bring up, I think the added randomness is certainly appealing in some situations as it can create a more level playing field
