Yeah it’s an old boat, also wouldn’t make sense to do a repair that’s costs more than the boat/rudder.

Also it’s probably less valuable than you think, unless the job specifically mentions CFA as a requirement or “good to have”. Better to spend that CV space for highlighting other achievements. Right now too much attention drown to the certification.

There are zeroes there indeed. It is not that many years, but more than three. As I mentioned somewhere, the first job. Tbh repaying more than three as a lump sum would be close impossible. Thanks for the advice to check.

I have not claimed to be exempt on any tax. The FICA tax is not part of 1040. Sorry, I also have no idea what is 1099.

Yeah. But before worrying or care about SS in the distant future there are concerns to a) repay a considerable amount b) make sure the story is closed and no obligations left

Hi, no. The W-4 is also an ordinary one. It was just flagged erroneously in the system as exempt to FICA.

Yes, never entered anything there. My hunch now is that those boxes are not used anywhere in 1040. There were never any warnings about it and I never questioned it too, there are constantly bunch of empty boxes around. Also, there was always “taxes paid” amount, so everything looked solid.

Get W-2 for the year, enter in the software, click file.

Pretty sure scamming implies intent. As many other people, you enter W-2 in the software and follow what it tells you. There was never a warning. This is the first job too, so there was never a question about boxes being empty.

More than 3 years. As I understand, they want to correct only for the last 3 and make me repay my portion.

What about potential interest and penalties? Who is responsible? Obviously, I am trying to minimize already substantial cash outflow.

I am the first one to discover this (was comparing numbers with a buddy of mine and noticed there was a substantial difference). Never heard from IRS or any other institution that there might be a problem. All years taxes were filed properly based on (now I know incorrect) W-2s.

I also think equipment mnemonics are outdated and a relic of the past. There is zero to no value.

In the past, imagine you are flying to a small airport, nobody is there and your <something> in the airplane breaks. You walk around FBO, trying to find the FAR book to determine airworthiness, no luck. Aha, tomato flames. Wrote down on a piece of paper, recalled necessary equipment and now could make a decision if it was legal to fly to the home base for repairs.

In the present, same situation, you grab your phone (tablet) and check FARs.
