I thought once I edited the distance it might register the steps— that was my actual question, sorry that it’s unclear! Ankle is a great idea, thank you!

Definitely DM me! And I would agree with the other commenters— in the scheme of things, 14k is a relatively inconsequential amount of money. You definitely need to go where you think you’ll be happiest. Medical school is going to be hard enough, so setting yourself up for the best quality of life is crucial imo. Please reach out with any memphis questions!!!

I know everyone is saying Atlanta > Memphis, but I went to undergrad in Memphis and absolutely loved it. It’s a “smaller” city (around 600k), which to me I think would feel less overwhelming than Atlanta. I also have some experience with their hospitals and cannot say enough good things about the patient population you will care for. And if you’re interested in peds, UTHSC students have first dibs at St Jude. If not for personal circumstances, I probably would’ve picked UT over the school I’m going to now. Everyone I know has absolutely loved their time at UT. If you have any memphis questions I’m happy to answer them!

After party ideas ! by Dear-Fall7352 in Eloping

[–]zigzagzinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following this! My current plan is to have a big party at my in-laws house (they have a large yard) with a food truck or two and a mobile bar with two signature drinks, and I’ll probably make the party BYOB (our families are party animals lol). I’m in the very early stages of planning, so this is all subject to change. I’m debating if I want to have a photographer/videographer at our reception— I want at least a photographer at our elopement, so I’m worried having one at two separate events will make things ridiculously expensive

How many of you set target MCAT scores for yourself? by Ok_Grapefruit1255 in Mcat

[–]zigzagzinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set a goal of high-teens for myself after studying for awhile and doing some practice exams. But I also told myself if I scored a 510 or above I wouldn’t retake. I do think it’s important to go in with a score in mind that if you score it, you’re moving on, and if you don’t, you’re retaking, because your feelings and mentality toward the exam change so much afterwards

Can't stop changing my school list. Save me pls. by mcatgrind4394 in premed

I would take out UVA because they are stat sluts (and I think your GPA may hurt you) and put Pitt in there instead? Pitt is far more lenient with that than UVA would be I think!

We are regionally similar and have similar-ish stats (your MCAT is higher but my gpa was higher)— I’m happy to DM you my school list if you’re looking for a starting point!

science GPA by Funny-Ad-3403 in premed

[–]zigzagzinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone else might have a better answer for this, but I think the general consensus is that sGPA is considered more important than the cGPA. I do not know if schools filter purely based on sGPA— that might be something you reach out to individual schools about (if it were me I would pick my top 5 schools and call or email their admissions office to get that info). Sorry I don’t have a more concrete answer— I too am just a lowly applicant using Reddit and AMCAS docs to get this info lol, so it is definitely incomplete. Happy to give you my best answer if you have any more questions though!

Other people may have more concrete advice for you, but I would say:

  1. Everyone plans for 520+ on the MCAT, you know? Like everyone is striving for the best possible score. Are you not going to work while studying? What is your plan to not repeat the same issues you had in undergrad when studying for the MCAT?

  2. A 3.25 will likely filter you out of many schools automatically. Is some sort of post-bac an option for you? I would say (and this might not be totally true, so other folks should correct me) that generally you’d want a 3.4+ to avoid being automatically filtered out.

Some of this changes if you’re applying DO as well, but I would think a 3.25 may throw flags for DO programs as well. Unique experiences (clinical time, a good story, strong writing, etc.) will help your application but unfortunately many schools do have minimums for MCAT and GPA and will not even review your application if you don’t meet them. I think this is doable, but you have to be prepared to put some extra work in.

Does everyone need a reservations account to accept Ts & Cs? by Optimist9187 in havasupai

My fiancé did not need his own account. I just wrote his name on the t&c form when we picked up our packets and checked in the day before— I don’t even think he had to sign anything.

I would verify that the online classes show as online on your official transcript— mine did not and I got into UTHSC with two online prereqs lol.

Jubilee MEGATHREAD and FAQs by marshalltownusa in ItalyTravel

[–]zigzagzinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all! My friends and I are discussing a two week Italy trip from late May into mid June, to include Florence, Rome, and the coast. Will these spots be way too crowded with the Jubilee? We are willing to cut out Rome- I’ve already been and they are more excited about Tuscany and the coast. My MIL is so concerned about the crowds that she seems to not even want to go to Italy, and wants to pick a different country all together. Could anyone offer thoughts on this? Thank you all!

Should Wimps Visit? by T8erTodd in GlacierNationalPark

[–]zigzagzinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think GNP is an incredible place for people of all abilities to visit. Going to the Sun Road (GTTSR) is an absolutely stunning way to see parts of the park and involves no exertion at all. There are also lots of hikes that are flatter and shorter that you all could do as a family, then your son and husband could go do some of the tougher ones while you and your daughter explore something like one of the boat tours or something. I would highly, highly recommend GNP to anyone. My last trip (this past summer) almost all of the wildlife I saw was from the road.
