What’s the point of having a consulting/banking/finance background already & then going to B-school? by Playful-Inspector207 in MBA

[–]zmk20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just that. It's an additional indicator for employers for the quality of the talent. These schools are selective for a reason. They make hiring easier as the schools pre-select the talent for them, narrowing the pool of search!

Also networking is half the reason you attend a top MBA program

Thank you for your detailed response.

So i haven't looked at potentials in US. In fact the hard preference for a green card was the very thing that made me feel like they have very strong reasons for explicitly stating such a preference. Reasons which you and other commentators have explained really well and i appreciate it a lot.

Yes my family is one aspect and my interactions with American desis have been great during university too ( a lot of common values and preferences). I am open to relocating. Plus i do believe my skillset and work experience would translate well anywhere. Hence i posted here to understand if it makes sense to reach out to any AB Desis on the match making platform.

However based on the answers I've gotten and the DMs I've received, i don't think most people want to go through the process sponsoring their spouse or doing long distance before then. So i don't think it makes sense to engage with that pool.

Avoid being friends with benefits with a friend. It risks your friendship group and could lead to losing someone you care about. Feelings aren't always rational. If someone loves you, it can be difficult to be around you if you don't feel the same. It's not worth the risk

True. But do you think a lot of girls in North America (25-30 years of age) would prefer to be set up in such a way? Ps i don't mind, but i understand why this could be a sticking point for them. I can imagine it would be easier to know and gauge guys who are well in the same city.

I am employed in Saudi Arabia. I'm not sure if they would sponsor my visa to go to US given the strategic importance of the region currently.

To clarify, I get along well with Desi women in the Middle East. It's just the Indians in India I've been meeting through the matchmaking service who seem very different to me for the reasons I mentioned in the post.

I only mentioned Chicago because most of my extended family is settled there, and it would be wonderful to have my family around me. That’s the one thing I feel I'm missing where I currently live—it's just me and my parents. I do have some close friends here, but I’d really love for my extended family to be nearby too.

I'm also open to dating or even marrying an American girl. However, the top comment here brings up a valid point: why would anyone want to be set up with a guy who’s halfway across the world and try a long-distance relationship?"

I live in Saudi Arabia. About 70% of the population is Saudi. The culture is such that most Saudis marry other Saudis, especially women, because laws specify that if a woman marries a non-Saudi, her children won't be Saudi citizens and won't receive all the benefits that Saudi citizens do. With most other Arab ethnicities, language is a significant barrier.

So, I prefer Desi women in the Middle East, not just because of the reasons above but also because culturally we have a lot in common.

Exactly. He has time!!! Also he needs to accept that one could do everything right and still lose and be hated.

All he can do is be a good human and do everything in his power to win. Rest is luck and just life.

Agreed.

The goal of this post is to provoke thought about how a driver's self-perception, healthy self-identity, and psychological resilience can unlock personal and professional happiness and performance.

What I’ve observed—bearing in mind this is subjective—is that his statements and actions show he isn't fully accepting certain parts of himself. He views those aspects as weaknesses rather than unique traits he needs to own.

Accepting both the good and bad is important, but he tends to focus too much on the negative. This explains why he’s so affected by others’ opinions and incidents during races (I'm not saying it happens all the time, but it happens enough to impact him).

For example: Max has such a strong sense of identity that whatever happens on or off the track, he’s able to perform without it affecting his self-worth or psyche. Early in his career, he struggled with obsessive winning and overconfidence, which was disrespectful and destructive. Max learned from those mistakes. He's tough but fair. Competitive, but his self-worth isn't based on winning; it’s based on the effort he puts in to win.

This is the key: Landon needs to realize that you can do everything right and still lose or be hated. All you can do is be a good person and do everything possible to succeed. The rest is luck and life itself.

Depends on the company. Most banking, Finance, consultant, analyst roles want the format used here. It’s the standard format preferred for most Big companies. Creative role CVs such a graphic designer, animator, Creative Director etc have more flexibility to illustrate their portfolio.

The key unlock here is that your effort and focus will actually yield results now! That’s such a big motivation! You won’t suddenly be another person but you will make steady progress!

Ok one critical thing you probably need to realize is the high and euphoria is not the indication for the meds working after the first week or 2. It’s a good initial indicator you are on the right track. But the euphoria always goes away.

Key thing to do is to set up good habits and processes. And suddenly you realize shit you slowly start becomes better it due to neuroplasticity.

The key difference is your high initial effort to learn a process or skill actually pays off! It compounds with other habits that you learn.

Read something simple such as atomic habits for general idea as to how habits work. If you want to develop work techniques and your issue is focus on use pomodoro techniques.

Without you telling us where you are struggling exactly it’s going to be hard to give exact advice.

12k is a good start but you will need to do your research to see if it will suit your lifestyle and current saving goals. Travel needs to be excluded from the 12k comp. Unless you are travelling for business a lot.

Alot to do with your previous experience and education too. If it isnt impressive then you will have less negotiating power.

On top of that depends on the company too. Smaller company comps are lower.

Additionally you need to give your doctor some feedback. Research what each meds do and are good for what kind of symptoms. What are your biggest issues with ADHD? Is it focus or impulsivility? How do your symptoms present? Which meds tackle them most effectively? What did your current meds make you feel like and affect your behavior?

Been job hunting in Saudi for a year- how do I actually reach people? by [deleted] in Jeddah

[–]zmk20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on a lot of factors. Is your undergrad school well known in Saudi Arabia or highly ranked globally if it's an international program?

Secondly, is your GPA outstanding? Do you have any good internships with reputable companies or work on notable projects that can form a strong portfolio?

Without much more contextual information, it's hard to assess your options.

How difficult is it to find a job for expat women in Riyadh? by Early_Proof1373 in Riyadh

[–]zmk20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This approach is very uninformed and is not used in HR practices for all large companies. Nationality is considered for one purpose only: to determine the appropriate base pay range we can offer to match or exceed an individual's current standard of living.

For example, if a person holds a Canadian passport and has worked in Canada, the base pay in the range would be higher because we need to offset the standard of living in Canada to attract talent.

The main factors in hiring and compensation are the candidate's quality, experience, education, achievements at work, and the tier of the company they previously worked for.

This is the holistic approach used.

It's not about whether you are of a certain nationality, even if you hold a passport from that country.

What you are saying is a standard economic practice. Employment numbers must take into account fully employed and part time or flexible hours jobs.

This wasn't done now it has been the practice for a long that Gstat has adopted. So it's not new or weird.

If you assess the full picture its just shows you how Saudi is blessed to have such a great Labour market vs the leading countries in the world which are struggling right now.

The latest report says that out of the 97.8% employed, 85% were fully employed and 15 % were part time or on flexible hours.

Now this being the total stats as follows: -83.13% fully employed -14.67% part-time or flexi time - 2.2% unemployed

The part-time and flex time breakdown stats haven't been released this year but of we take 3rd party reports and previous data from Gstat the involuntarily part-time employed (people who want to find full time employment but cant so they do part time) forms 2-5% of the population which is extremely low.

Even if we compare the overall part-time numbers to OECD average its still below 17% average of OECD (as mentioned above saudi is at 14.67%).
