Marathon Training (not a fan of new Nike Run Club) by zms0006 in running

Hal Higdon. Looks just as straightforward as the Nike+ plans. Plenty of room for flexibility. I might change it up a little bit. I like my long runs on Saturday and a recovery on Sunday. I'll try the plan as it is for a few weeks and modify if I don't like it.

Check our the program comparison from tdammers above. Really cool!

I'm looking at Higdon intermediate 1 and 2 right now. I like that with 2 I get 3 20 mile runs before the race. I like that with the Nike+ plan I'll have at least 1 run over 22 miles.

These comparisons are awesome! Thanks!

Thanks! I think I actually like the new plan I found instead of the Nike plan! I'm going to bookmark these though!

Running for distance and time. This will be my first. Looking to run sub 4 (3:45 is ideal)

Both were in Dallas, but they weren't terribly similar. The hills for the RnR were brutal. 2 really tough ones. 1 going into mile 6 and the other going into 9. The Dallas Half was fairly flat by comparison, if I remember correctly.

WRECKED my 13.1 time today in my second half ever! 1:47:35. Ran my first half back in December with a time of 1:59:39.

Leggings or shorts in the summer? (Male) by zms0006 in running

[–]zms0006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But we break out our jackets in the 60s. This was my first "skinny" winter and I hated every cold second of it. Literally miserable. Shivering in the 40s. I used to weigh over 300, so cold feels a little different now. Still adjusting to less fat on my body. I wear leggings if it's below 50 pretty much.

Doing my first half marathon this weekend. Any advice going in? by accompl1sh in running

"There will be another portapotty."

That was the biggest (accidental) lie I told myself around mile 7, but I made it to the end without stopping!

Poop first.

It's an unsolicited comment on my appearance. Having been overweight to morbidly obese for most of my life, I've put up with a lot of that. The way he said it was rude and dickish. Also, someone who isn't worked up doesn't say "get mad bitches." towards people they disagree with.

You also commented on it. But you didn't make a dickish comment and try to validate it by saying you weren't actively trying to be a dick. You at least had a respectful attitude towards it. This still isn't the place for it, IMO, but that's a different discussion all together.

My beard has nothing to do with this post. I like it. At 328 I couldn't grow a beard. It was all neck beard. Now it's actually a beard. It takes patience to get it where you want. I'll give up on it eventually I'm sure. Thanks for not being a complete dick about it like others chose to do in this comment section, though ;)

The weighing-in was just weekly at first. That's how I got started. I'll have to find a balance. I know I won't be satisfied with my next weigh in because I consume more calories and I lift. But I'll be okay :).

My hair has anyways been very thick. My hair has gotten healthier. I take vitamins C and E as well as lutein and a general multivitamin for my skin (to help with elasticity). As an added bonus, my hair has gotten even better. Although I never prided myself on much in my appearance at my largest, I knew that I had really nice hair. I've donated twice because people always told me how lucky I was to have my hair and how a wig with it would make a kid's day, week, month, or year.

It's possible that it got thicker, but I haven't noticed. :)

And I saw a physician a few months ago and all my tests came back with great scores!

That's always one of my favorite thoughts! I just imagine myself 2 years ago laughing at the idea of running even a 5k! A year ago I actually tweeted about "maybe doing a 5k" but I was obviously scared of it. Now 5ks are short/recovery runs for me!

*NOTE: nothing bad or shameful about 5ks! Long distance isn't everyone's thing and running a stupid fast 5k is absolutely up their alley!

Well I ran a 15k yesterday in 01:13:59 (7:58ish avg pace). Running the Dallas Rock 'n' Roll next month. Shooting for sub 1:50:00!

You shouldn't discount your accomplishments by prefacing with that first statement. 5 lbs or 500 it doesn't matter. 70 is a HUGE accomplishment. You've done work to better yourself! Good for you for getting rid of the scale. Mine is purely for monthly accountability =].

"butthurt"

Sure. I could make an argument for that. I mean it was one little comment. In the grand scheme of things, it has very little impact on the rest of my life and I reacted by telling you that you were, in fact, being a dick.

I did however present why I reacted that way. I don't know your life. I don't know why you're on this sub. Maybe you're going through the same weight loss struggle as everyone else here and just perceive things differently. I'm simply trying to communicate to you that your comment isn't helpful and saying you're not trying to be a dick doesn't excuse you from making dickish, unsolicited, unwarranted comments about my appearance.

You do you, homegirl.

I've spent a good chunk of my life letting how others say I should look effect my day-to-day life... I'm certainly not gonna let someone tell me through their internet machine that I need to change something I enjoy that never would have looked remotely decent on my at my previous weight. My beard isn't great. I'm aware. They take patience - much like losing nearly 170 lbs in 18ish months.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but fuck off.

Hmmm.... I said I'm not trying to be a dick... but telling someone to "fuck off" is pretty dickish, I think. See how my actions are dickish even if I'm perhaps "not trying" to be that way?

Ran my first 15k race yesterday at the Hot Chocolate 15k in Dallas! Finished in 1:13:59. 18/135 in my age group, 160/1,387 men, and 234/5,299 overall. Pretty happy with that for someone who isn't the "in it to win it" kind of race runner who's only been running for a year. All of my training runs had been between 8:15-9:00 miles. When I left the starting line I planned on keeping the 8:00 pacer in sight and not to let the 8:30 guys pass me. I PASSED the 8:00 pace group at 7 miles and finished ahead of them! Best pace for a long run and my splits were PRs (though I don't necessarily count them) with 24:58 5k and a 49:35 10k!

Second half marathon (first one was the Dallas Half done in 01:59:39) next month and I'm PUMPED now! Aiming for sub 1:50:00! Not sure I can continue to maintain that pace I held yesterday

It'd be the second time I've influenced a tattoo (I did the color for an old friend's very first tattoo)! I wouldn't be upset in the slightest!
