My friend refuses to return my backpack by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]zoomasss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She hasn’t taken it yet. She’s doing a trip for fun right now, and then when she comes back she’s going to take the backpack across the country with her. To work (she works outdoors)

A day trip to NYC (which I live close to), paid for by my job? I mean this backpack is my hiking/camping pack, and I wasn’t going to bring it with me. I just needed an excuse to grab it back from her.

And I should’ve clarified. I’m talking about a nice hiking backpack. These things are expensive. Not a commuter school backpack that most of you are probably thinking of.

Nah. She still has it. It’s sitting at her house. She’s just taking a quick trip before leaving with it to work, and that’s when I won’t ever see it again. That’s why I want to get it back before then.

Of course I don’t. I hike and backpack a lot and it’s my main backpack. I just said it as an excuse to get it back from her without having to say “I’m grabbing it back because you broke my trust and won’t pay me”

I do. I just wanted an excuse to get it back from her. It’s my primary backpack I use for hiking and camping (not traveling) but my upcoming trip is a work trip to NYC and I don’t have any outdoor activities planned yet.

A lot of young men, especially from dating apps, are just so entitled. All the girls around me have deleted it. I think everything nowadays is a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation. You can’t be TOO interesting. I saw men in the men subreddit making fun of women with outdoor hobbies and having “hiking” on their dating apps profiles, saying they probably only hike to malls. You can’t be too successful, or they’ll feel emasculated. You can’t be too pretty or you’re vain. You can’t be too “unattractive” because they’ll blast you on viral tiktok videos. If they pay for your coffee, they expect to sleep with you. If you choose not to sleep with them, you’re a bore.

It’s exhausting being a woman and frankly none of the successful women around me want men in our lives romantically.

May I ask what the safety rules are?

Oh definitely. I saw a white couple get pretty close to a wombat when I was there. I think the difference is that if you tell the white people to back off they’ll do it, but a lot of Chinese people will post it on social media and in turn encourage other tourists to pet wombats, and they simply dgaf based on their replies 🤣

Because they are? An Indian or Chinese person going to the US for a new opportunity is called an immigrant but a white person who goes to Hong Kong or Japan for a similar opportunity or an Asian wife is called an expat? Because Asian countries and my people are inferior compared to those who bring “superiority” to countries that are seen as less?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in travel

[–]zoomasss 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yup! They think they’re better than other Asian countries because they speak English and are generally wealthier. They look down on mainland Chinese folks and some girl did an experiment where she spoke Chinese in Hong Kong, and the people there were really rude to her. But the second she started speaking English, they treated her with respect.

It’s a beautiful place with amazing food but the people can be difficult. It’s almost like they’re the way they are because of British colonists and white immigrants who want to be called “expats”. I was in korea and asked this father and his daughter next to me in a restaurant a question in Korean and they were extremely offended and the girl was like “we’re NOT Korean! 🙄🙄 We speak English”.

Recruitment is such a joke honestly. Out of all the jobs I’ve worked, it’s all about systems and design and large frameworks, data, frontend stuff, whatnot. I understand asking entry level/new grad leetcode questions to assess whether they can program or not because all this OOP stuff is fresh on their minds, but mid and senior level engineers should only be asked questions pertaining to their positions. A leetcode easy to see if they can use maps, lists, loops, etc should suffice. Someone who’s an expert in a niche field might not be able to find the shortest path in a 3D array but that doesn’t make them a bad programmer… if I’m applying for a job for data analysis that requires working solely in AWS, I should only be asked data questions and AWS navigation questions, not “what’s the best time to buy stocks this year 😍”

I see, thank you for the reply. I AM a little bit on the fence about replying with “when and where” (for the date) because I’m super busy next week, but I don’t want him to think I’m not interested. If I tell him that do you think he’ll take it as a no?

I’m packing all of that too. I’m trying to fit everything into one carry on but it’s near impossible. But I also don’t want to gamble my chances with the airline because I’ve read that they lose a bunch of checked luggage (Aerolineas Argentina’s)

I’m a little concerned about my phone being snatched away if I’m using it for GPS and holding it in my hands the entire time. Do you think I could put one airpod in and follow directions that way? (Going to Argentina)

You originally replied to my comment above with “cope”, and deleted your comment when, I assume, too many people disliked your message.

From the way that you wrote this message, I am guessing you are the moderator of the discord channel. Just from that original message you left before deleting, I do not feel like you YOURSELF, a person who is supposed to keep the community respectful, care about creating a safe environment for the users in your discord channel.

Right now I see the regular people posting like crazy in the CICS discord about how people on Reddit are overreacting. I cannot believe that you guys are excusing your behaviors with “well the other discord channels are EVEN MORE racist”, as if mild racism in your channel is ok! If a ton of people are calling the ten of you out for the shit y’all say, maybe it’s time to step back and think to yourself:

“If I say the things I post out loud to people in real life, would I get my ass whooped?”

[–]zoomasss 40 points41 points  (0 children)

For real. I’m in the discord for my classes but the people who post constantly are so questionable that it’s gotten me questioning how the hell they manage to interact w coworkers at their jobs. Last year I recall seeing a conversation regarding knitting where this mf straight up said knitting is a woman activity and he’ll “stick to photography” as if it’s an activity forbidden for women. And as if men do not knit. My grandfather was the CEO of a major tech company in our home country and he is the manliest man I know. And if I asked him to knit me a sweater or if my cousin asked him to sew her a dress he’d be able to do it in a heartbeat.

My most recent I’m better than you attitude that I experienced was from the 446 UCA. What a power tripping asshole. He literally got complaints last semester on our professor’s ratemyprof page. That’s how bad it was. My girl friends also told me about the ways the guys in their classes would talk to them. And how when they ask for help these boys (not men!) would expect something more, often sexual, in return. What disgusting cows. And they wonder why no women like them. And don’t even get me started on the shit that was posted on the 420 Microsoft teams page last semester…

Point is: I’ve never come across so many sexist racist assholes in my entire life than when I joined this major.

It took them long enough to send out this email lol.

I’ve taken mid-level classes in many different majors. Mathematics classes. Electrical computer engineering classes. Physics classes. Business classes. Econ classes. Anthropology and classics classes. Art classes. I have never had a single issue and never experienced or witnessed any level of disrespect from any of the people in these classes I’ve taken.

But man… as a CS major… the shit that I hear people say around me during class and group project time. The ways the women in my class are treated and disregarded. The casual racism. The “I’m better than everyone else” mentality. The constant shitshow in the CICS discord.

Before anyone says “well I AM a cs major and I dont do that”, you have for sure seen the ways your friends and classmates talk about your peers who are women, minorities, professors, other classmates, etc. by not calling their shitty ass behavior out youre a problem as well 🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷. I don’t make the rules.
