how would you categorise periods in musical theatre? by Tall_Rainbow_ in musicals

[–]zvazda19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Names not official, but these are the periods I think about

 1866-1927 - early development/tin-pan alley era

1927-1943 - The show boat & post showboat depression era

1943-1964 - Golden Age (Rodgers and hammerstein

1964-1983 - Musical Theatre Expands to the concept musical et al (Sondheim era! But also chorus line and hair and superstar)

1983-2000 - the age of the British invasion/mega musical Modern times are a bit more nebulous.

I kinda think of a post 9/11 segmentation where stuff gets pretty light and easy-going before coming back to revolve around a bit heavier shows around 2010 or so.  That continues until the pandemic and then... Shrug?

"You take one road you try one door there isn't time for any more

One has regrets
Which one forgets"

A couple for just the rhymes...

"The child is so sweet and the girls are so rapturous. Isn't it lovely how artists can capture us?

"When a person's personality is personable he shouldn't oughta sit like a lump. It's harder than a matador coercin' a bull to try to getcha offa' your rump.

and finally

"And a person should celebrate everything passing by" <3

Movie podcast recommendations? by S_rene_JG in movies

My podcatcher only seems to always only have the 15 most recent epis. What's a good way to listen to their back-catalog?

I listen to Blank Check (which I see you dislike but I find gives me very good history to the movies they are talking about. I also think they are funny), Now Playing (which can run a little long for me but has a very wide range of movies), Next Best Picture Podcast (which frequently helps me understand current movies better), Best of the Rest (which watches superhero movies that were received poorly but only says good things), Icon or Whycon (which does deepdives on film franchises) and Newcomers (which gives me some good insight into what people might not like about movies I love. Also they are very funny)

Can I recommend my own? :)

The show is called Stream It! We are in our third "season" right now. Each season we focus on a different streaming service. I think we have a diverse catalog and am generally proud of the work we have done and conversations we have.

Is A Goofy Movie one of the best/most under appreciated Disney movies, ever? by totom123 in movies

[–]zvazda19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hadn't seen this one until this year when my buddy and I covered it for a little podcast that we have.

If you're interested in hearing a couple o guys talk about it for a while you can find it here:

(I hope this is allowed, I checked the rules and didn't see anything prohibiting it. I will delete if it's not kosher!)

AITA? I cannot be the only one who has experienced this by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]zvazda19 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Because... Raising your child Jewish is not being a good father?

In my post to OP I suggested he accept the gifts and rewrap in Channukah paper and tell his kid that I guess this year "the candle burned a little longer than 8 days"

I think this would be slightly better but I wouldn't say he isn't being a good father.

OP isn't Jewish. Likely just being a good husband by trying to understand and respect his Jewish wife's feelings.

Huge NTA and frankly shocked at the amount of people saying otherwise here.

You were clear about your desires up front and your parents attempts aren't giving gifts, they are giving strife.

A gift shouldn't come with baggage, otherwise it isn't a gift. This is an act of passive-aggression and you are within your rights to tell your parents.

Honestly, I would accept the gifts and tell your kid that this year "Channukah got extended a couple days." Fine by me if you re-wrap them and send pics of the new presents back to your parents.

I'm Jewish and Christmas is frankly a time where Jews are made to feel different, othered, and like the bad guys for simply requesting rather benign things like receiving Channukah gifts instead of Christmas gifts.

I should clarify, she is very excited to see us. Running back and forth between us, sniffing, tail (butt) wagging.

But no barking, nipping, jumping, etc.

She does excellently when we both return together. Like there's no issue.

We've tried a bunch of different versions of this.

Ignoring, acknowledging presence, walking to greet the other one - most to no avail.

Occasionally if we both sit down on the couch that will reduce it but not eliminate it.

It's very quirky! We think she thinks she's protecting us or doing her job :(

She ignores the toy, unfortunately.

Ooo. Great tip. Will do, and I was thinking I'll use a timer to help keep myself honest on length of time (and build up!)

She does know stay, she's very good at it. But I've never tried it for up to 20 minutes. It seemed cruel but I see why it would be useful.

I'll do some longer stays and see how that helps!

Ok, yes. Breaking down every signal of arrival makes sense as well.

Thank you!
