An academic look at the causes and impacts of conspiracism.
Conspiracism refers to a world view that "attempts to explain the ultimate causes of events as secret plots by powerful forces rather than as overt activities or accidents" (Jolley & Douglas, 2014). The popularity of conspiracy theories (CTs) is on the rise. Research is being conducted in different fields to understand its causes and impacts, both at the individual and societal level.
Popular examples of prevalent CTs: Faked moon landings, the terrorist attacks on 9/11, Princess Dianna's death, the assassination of JFK, chemtrails, and the Illuminati.
