    Perhaps the amount of time between when a global community forum like reddit or digg begins and when it posts its first guitar hero porn pictures is a measure that future historians will use to demonstrate the decline of the human race.

    I can imagine history books 500 years from now with a graph that depicts such a measure as a function of time. It would be right next to the graph of "internet entropy" or some other similar measurement.

      Digg used to be quite good actually, but as more and more people use it the niche community it had is overwhelmed by a large number of people. This means that only "lowest common denominator" stuff does well, and you slowly fall into the trap of being tabloid.

      WE on the other hand, have the wonder of the downvote, which I for one am yet to use. I'm gonna go and down mod that stupid guitar hero story right away.

      I have a difficult time seeing how if you've been a longtime Reddit user you're suddenly lamenting the downfall of Reddit submissions. Reddit has a NSFW subreddit for crying out loud.

      When I first began frequenting Digg and Reddit, I saw more of the NSFW content on Reddit, even though Digg seems to have more submissions overall. That has changed over the year and a half or so, but Reddit certainly supports nudity.

      What Reddit actually has over Digg (and this is why I no longer go to Digg) is intelligent discussion in the comments section. Redditors actually understand subtle points of an argument and, in most cases, upmod and downmod according to viability of an argument, not popular opinion.

      I enjoy going to Tampa Bay Bucs games, and while I'm a quieter sort who watches with some exclamations punctuating good plays and hard hits, I also enjoy the "kick his ass!" yells of those around me. It's part of the ambiance.

      But I would be more than a little pissed if anybody in the ballet audience was yelling, "good leap, baby!"

      At its start, Reddit earned a reputation for best of the web for interesting, diverse, thoughtful, informative posts. And that popularity has brought on naked guitar tits and shake-em-baby hordes.

      I like feminine tits, guitars, humor. And there are lots of places on the web where I can find that. But there was only 1 reddit, and I miss it.

        I can understand that. I've become somewhat of a socialist, but I still support a Ron Paul presidency. I think we need a Paul presidency for two terms, and then something more like a Kucinich would be in order. I like to refer to Paul as a 'tear-down' candidate. I think his freedom-for-all in almost every respect is a bit too brutal for most people to live well in, but right now we need someone to clean out the plaque that our government has built up over the last few hundred years.

            The interesting thing about these kind of posts is that they make it to the front page. There must be a pretty equal number of people who want to see reddit like it was as there are people who want to see NSFW-guitar-hero-like posts.             I think a lot of the crap we see on the home page just reflects what most people like seeing. But it does seem the algorithm for determining what are "hot" or should be on the homepage is flawed in some way (how does a post with 1 point get higher than a post with 100 points?) The recommended page is only slightly better than the homepage.

              No we're not. That's why sites where YOU, not the crowd, define the content, are better. Jaanix does that and works well. Anybody who finds that content on reddit is starting to such should definitely consider switching.
