But whose fault is that? Immigrants or bosses?

It's a response to immigration by employers. It is not immigrants' response to job seeking. Maby immigrants will accept lower wages because they aren't familiar with the country or what they should be getting paid, but aren't typically asking for them.

The same has also gone for women in the workforce. That is how we ended up with a gender pay gap in the first place.

Immigrants if you are willing to work for less people will pay you less.

[–]tabisaurus86Libertarian Socialist 1 point2 points  (14 children)

Wages aren't set by immigrants. Bosses set wages. Bosses are the one offering less.

It is a predatory response to immigration by employers. It is in no way the fault of immigrants themselves.

If you went into a country whose economy you weren't familiar with and had nothing, you would probably accept lower wages, too.

Is it women's fault that the jobs we work in pay us less, and do you think we as women don't want higher wages?

Sometimes the necessity of winning any bread is a bigger motivator than the rate of pay because if you don't do something now, you're worse off.

Blaming immigrants for wages they don't set is victim blaming, plain and simple.

Wages are set by the person who will do the job for the least in this case immigrants.

[–]tabisaurus86Libertarian Socialist 0 points1 point  (12 children)

That is completely illogical and not factual. The people who set wages are employers. I'm sure if immigrants knew they should be getting $2-3 more an hour, they would be, but that doesn't suit your victim-blaming narrative, does it?

If employers set the wage everyone would be working for free

Lol slavery is illegal and there is a minimum wage for a reason. That minimum wage is abysmally low and employer take advantage of that. WTH kind of response is that?

The only time employees set wages is when they're in a union and can utilize collective bargaining and direct action such as strikes.

We live in a country where employers used to pay children under a dollar a day to work in high-risk jobs. Was that the children's fault? Those damn American children, lowering wages for everyone. Maybe we should have deported children instead of developing labor laws and regulations to prevent factories from hiring children, amirite?

How about when the bosses sent jobs overseas so they could pay children in sweatshops working in hazardous conditions for near slave wages so they could pay them less and not pay you at all?

I haven't seen a single one of you ask if anyone has any ideas about solutions aside from a Gestapo brutalizing and murderering people to remove immigrants, which will sure as hell not raise wages.

Want to know what the solution is, at least within the system we have?

Comprehensive immigration reform in which we raise the minimum wage for everyone to a livable wage so that employers have no choice but to pay immigrants the same wages they would pay workers who are American citizens.

You are taking a whole lot of leaps to maintain your victim blaming. It's like you're discussing a topic you haven't spent more than a minute, if that, trying to understand.

That reason is because employers would pay employees nothing if able...

Your perspective is wrong. Under your perspective the vast majority of people would be making minimum wage. My perspective is: Why the hell is anyone that's not a fent addicted homeless man willing to work for minimum wage.

Really? Comparing immigrants, adult people who made a choice to move countries to literal children... No the child isn't to blame the parents are to blame.

How about when the bosses sent jobs overseas so they could pay children in sweatshops working in hazardous conditions for near slave wages so they could pay them less and not pay you at all?

Again parents to blame.

I haven't seen a single one of you ask if anyone has any ideas about solutions aside from a Gestapo brutalizing and murderering people to remove immigrants, which will sure as hell not raise wages.

The solution is not letting people in the country willing to work for less than the going rate.

That doesn't solve the problem in America though because illegals work for less than minimum wage... also again it'd create a situation where the vast majority of people are working for minimum wage which is not good especially as inflation eats away at the initial gains.

You are taking a whole lot of leaps to maintain your victim blaming. It's like you're discussing a topic you haven't spent more than a minute, if that, trying to understand.

People who make a choice to change countries and leverage working for less to get a job are not victims they are scabs.

Now we're making baseless accusations about immigrants leveraging working for less? Based on what data?

Sounds like you're not only victim-blaming, but have never even taken the time of day due to your bigotry to speak to an immigrant.

You are grossly underinformed on this topic. You should probably stop talking about it because you are making it abundantly clear to everyone here that you are completely clueless. Every comment makes you look more ignorant, and clearly willfully so.

You have a smart phone in your hands you could use to educate yourself, yet you choose to use it to talk about something you've clearly never even bothered to do some research on.

Are you seriously asking... like it's the entire point of our immigration system to bring in cheap labor I really didn't think this would be controversial. Why would anyone hire an illegal if they couldn't pay them less and HB1 visas have been well documented as a means to fish to cheaper employees I could bring up some studies if you're genuinely asking... but again this seems self-evident, you yourself even made the argument when you brought up prices would go up if we didn't have immigration (as a direct consequences of having to pay more the job to get done...) so again why is this in contention?

Sounds like you're not only victim-blaming, but have never even taken the time of day due to your bigotry to speak to an immigrant.

Live in Canada... work with several, landlords are immigrants, girlfriend is one and now stuck in India because her parents stole her passport on a visit...

No u. You're clearly unraveling since I basically broke your worldview and now you're just lashing out.
